The director and/or maybe photography director are so addicted to visual effects, subtle changes and love looking at each moment so much that this is probably one of the all time slowest dramas ever. But, I also love to spend hours looking at the play of shadow and light, so these are the guys for me. The actors are engaging, and each one is unique (unusual for a BL these days)..and it's nice that some of the characters have open ended storyline..nice mystery. The plot and writing ..oh well, can't have everything. Anyway, I find myself coming back for bits of peaceful re-watch.. Love it.
It's funny the way people criticize Apo..as though he can be judged by regular acting and beauty standards...He is just tremendous fun to watch..such fabulous physical comedy and such a flexible and amusing face. I wish someday to see him do traditional Thai dance. His presence on screen has been such a treat..I hope he has a chance to gently mellow over the years and stays on my screens.
I love this series. To me not toxic..just depicting the severity of Hira's traumatic past and his clinging to the Kiyoi talisman that saved his life. He is still terribly fragile, talks about death to an alarming degree. Viewers who see this relationship as toxic don't grasp the length of time it takes to heal from trauma. Kiyoi yearns to be loved as himself and his bleak past has somehow given him the patience to wait for Hira..
Nice review.. Just finished it last night though at several points I almost quit due to illogic. Praken soft smiles in tent really adorable, and I've always enjoyed Yacht.. Really appreciate Terry Gilliam comments.. Could have been really interesting.
