I think you failed to see Ning Yi went through all those hardship and drank with bunch of bandits that he dislike…
its not just give up body to get revenge on her father and brother. She's using her way of yes gettign revenge but maybe also has other plans... It's still her body and she can do with it what she wants. And unfortunately and horribly, this is like one of the few ways to get closer to the enemy, catch them off guard and then do something to get revenge or other plans...
Everything that happend here (tho i did msis the FL sometimes) was a buildup, its development of the characters
A lot of people seem to be giving the bandit arc a lot of hate. I don't really think it's as bad as most people…
when i noticed the bandit arc ws being made quite long i already know, they're doing this with the mind of making a season 2 it's making foundation for later developments in the story that might take place in season 2 this bandit plot is needed for the stories of another season.

no no, wuxia is a subgenre of historical genre as it's often in a historical setting because its about martial arts heroes which is often adventure or like something in the amrtiala rts world (jianghu) and such whereas for example xianxia is a genre about gods and immortals (for example: Ten miles of peach blossom) which also plays in a shitorical setting :) so the historical genre is very broad and has subgenres under it. Many years ago many historical dramas were often wuxia genred but this has changed a lot ^^
this arc took up half the 36 episodes.. probs gonna go until the end as Ning Yi still has to get the explosives…
i dunno, the drama is doing pretty well i think and though it's not like JOL, it's enjoyable in a different way. They might end with the big boss behind the bandits showing up or revealed (tho is till think its that old minister) or maybe there are other characters ntroduced at the end that makes it interesting for season 2. and not every drama has to be like JOL to get a second season, there are series which aren't that interesting and still get a season 2
i thin they're laying the works for a second season as it'll be a thing he handled very well and might give him a stronger foothold in the palace later if there comes a second season

they're actors, they're professional actors and yo should try to make a difference between dramas. They are different characters in different dramas. You don't get the feeling they were siblings at all in another drama, the'yre doing their characters good, so it's kinda sad if you would pass on such a good drama because you're not stepped out of their past roles yet :/
