You want to know how this all started? Probably not... my story is like thousands of others, I'm sure. But if you happen to be interested in the tale of how yet another ordinary person got sucked into the world of Asian dramas, pull up a chair. :D
First of all... let me make this clear. I wasn't interested in k-dramas for the longest time. I had a few friends who were obsessed with them, but I stubbornly refused to watch them. They weren't for me. I wasn't interested in becoming part of the stereotype that came with being a Western girl who watched Korean dramas.
Still, k-dramas wouldn't leave me alone. My friends kept talking about them. Screenshots and gifs kept popping up on Tumblr and Twitter. YouTube recommended random clips from random dramas at random times. And my friends kept talking about them.
Finally, after months of this relentless bombardment, I gave in and tried the first k-drama I came across that looked remotely interesting to me... The K2 – mostly because of Ji Chang Wook. Just to try it out. I was skeptical. Reluctant, even. I expected to watch it, hate it, and never try another k-drama. Ever. But, to my surprise, it was love at first sight... err, episode. Despite its flaws, The K2 was the perfect introduction to the world of k-dramas, and I quickly decided I had to catch up on years of brilliant storytelling and acting that I had somehow been oblivious to... and all the gorgeous Korean men my screen had been missing. (◕‿◕✿)
Next, I watched Strong Woman Do Bong Soon, and fell in love all over again. Like, are you even human if you can resist the charms of Min Min and Bong Bong? My heart melted into a puddle of sappy goo, and I wasn't even mad about it. Min Min and Bong Bong FOREVAH. ♥
Over the next few months, I watched a few more highly rated (and/or recommended) dramas, and enjoyed them immensely... but after a while, they all started feeling repetitive. Same characters, different actors. Same tropes. Same problems. Not unenjoyable, but too predictable. (Don't feel bad, k-dramas... it's not you, it's me. I have the annoying "gift" of being able to predict the ending, the villain, the unexpected twist, etc, within moments of starting a movie or show. It's the WORST. It drives my family crazy.)
Then, somehow, I stumbled across the Chinese drama New Life Begins on YouTube, and was instantly intrigued by Bai Jing Ting and his portrayal of Yin Zheng. "Wait, so c-dramas are a thing too?! Who is this handsome (and extremely talented) Chinese actor?" So, on a whim (and not expecting much, tbh), I started the show... and ended up binge-watching! O.o I've always been a huge fan of historical and fantasy genres, but didn't expect to enjoy one set in historical China. Once I got accustomed to the fashion and, more specifically, the hair (long hair and elaborate hairstyles on all these badass men took me a long time to adjust to lmao), I knew I'd found my new obsession.
And the best part? Now that I've supplemented k-dramas with c-dramas, I can enjoy both at different times, depending on my mood. Best of both worlds. :D
From there, I delved into Japanese and Thai dramas, and my world expanded even more. (Honestly, boredom is a thing of the past. I have enough dramas to watch for the next 300 years.) It usually takes me a while to finish a drama – especially since c-dramas tend to be 24+ eps, minimum! – and considering the fact that I have a job, a family, and many other hobbies that I refuse to give up so I can watch more TV. Lol.
That being said, I'm an obsessive fan. I get so attached to characters and have a hard time letting them go at the end of the show... that's just one reason it takes me so long to finish new dramas... I'm still hung up on the old ones. And I usually end up rewatching them, too. #oops

I'm a huuuge fan of Friends to Lovers romances. I love relationships that start out as friendships and slowly evolve into something more. I also enjoy a good Enemies to Lovers tale, as long as the story unfolds logically and reasonably... like, they have to have a good reason to hate each other for me to tolerate it. None of that "he pulled my pigtail in grade 2 so now I'll hate him with the passion of a thousand burning suns until the day I die" nonsense. Please and thank you.
I also adore found family tropes, good bromances (honestly, sometimes I prefer bromances over romances, don't @ me), strong female leads, badass but gentle male leads, slow-burn romances, and a good dose of angst. (Yes, that means I enjoy seeing hot men beaten and covered in blood... but only if their (b)romantic partners can tend to them and nurse them back to health afterward. Sue me.)
On the other hand, I despise Love Triangles, overbearing/abusive MLs, infantile FLs, controlling/toxic parents, memory loss tropes (ughhh the WORST), death tropes, sad endings, and "I'm lying to you to protect you" behavior. This drives me crazy, and I won't tolerate much of it in a drama. >_<
I'm also extremely picky. I have high standards for both acting and storytelling... but I am willing to overlook certain flaws in a drama if the characters have good character development, aren't completely illogical, and aren't forced to make stupid decisions to further the plot. Character driven dramas >>> plot driven dramas.

My top genres are: Action, thriller, mystery, romance, bromance, found family, slice-of-life, historical, fantasy, and wuxia/xianxia. I especially love a good action drama with a dash of romance thrown in. The perfect combo.
I'm a major introvert and don't spend much time conversing with people online (mostly because I simply don't have the time), but I'm friendly! :D Feel free to say hello if you're feeling chatty. ♥
