A Timeless Favorite
Where do I even start with this drama? This is one of the only dramas where I fell in love with the ML and the FL... and the two together as a couple. The chem between the MC is amazing and the way the ML fell for FL first is my fave thing ever.
Also... let's talk about Min Min. He is the most adorable ML I've ever seen in my life. The way he's constantly in awe of how cute Bong Bong is had me in a puddle on the floor over and over. (Where can I find a man like this?? He's PRECIOUS.)
The way he was in awe of Bong-soon from the very beginning was sweet AF. He wasn't scared of her. He wasn't trying to use her, he was genuinely interested in her as a person... and, despite her super strength, all he wanted to do was protect her. Unlike SML, though, he didn't smother her. He guided her. Directed her. He respected her and tried to help her utilize her strength rather than just using brute force. And the scenes where he was teaching her boxing/self-defense??? She was so much stronger than him - and he knew it - but he understood that she put herself in constant danger, and wanted her to be trained to protect herself, too.
And Bong Bong... she is one of the rare FLs that are actually cute and sweet and feminine without being obnoxiously childlike. She was innocent and a bit naive at times but also had a very wise soul. A sense of deep responsibility to use her abilities to protect those in need. She was strong and knew how to stand her ground, but also had a delightfully petty side paired with a hilarious innocence that made the show so damn funny at times.
And the plot... somehow, this show manages to be funny and cute and disturbing and romantic and thrilling, all at the same time. It didn't drag too much, and I loved the thriller aspects of the show (although I've seen complaints that it didn't "fit" the vibe. I disagree. I loved how the darker scenes balanced out the fluff & humor.) The serial kidnapping plot was bone-chilling at times, and I really liked how they wrapped it all up... I could've done without the gangster side plot altogether, though. It was cringey and completely unnecessary IMO, and I actually ended up skipping most of the gangster scenes in the last half of the show.
Altogether, this show is one of my all-time favorites. Park Hyung-sik & Park Bo-young were absolutely brilliant as the MC and their chem, acting, and vibrant charisma (both together and apart) made this show absolutely iconic. Definitely one I'll be rewatching over and over.
