I looked over your watchlist, you haven't checked out Till The End Of The Moon yet? To me, that's the only historical/wuxia that even comes close to having a similar feel to this one. But to be fair, some people here didn't think they were all that alike because the dynamic between the ML and FL is different in TTEOTM.

There's a short-length c-drama that's (obviously) not as good as this one, but has a similar feel to it (kind of) called Extremely Perilous Love. Even though it's not as good, it's just a small time investment, just a one or two day binge-session. I think the ML's have a similar vibe and somewhat similar look. EPL is a wuxia/historical type as well.

I liked A Dream of Splendor, another historical c-drama, with a dark ML. But that one has a slightly lighter tone to it, the ML is dark but not as dark as Xie Wei. I thought it was extremely decent. Again, nowhere near as good as SoKP, but still good, imo.

ikr, Xie Wei is the hottest ML I've ever seen, and considering their budget, it had such excellent cinematography. The story was clean, pacing was perfect, and the emotional tone of the show was consistent from beginning to end.... I can't find any fault with this drama at all. Except the throat-grabbing thing the chinese do that I'm not a fan of. But in his defense, he had snow dementia at the time, so even that isn't the worst thing ever.

Is it the accent? I can't make it through a thai drama because of the accents. I'm trying to think of good k-dramas with a dark ML, but c-dramas just have them beat on that, not even close. SoKP is probably the best thing I've ever watched out of like 250 dramas. If not best, then def in my top 5, easy.

Everyone who likes "dark MLs" and isn't having much fun with this show should immediately drop everything and go watch Story of Kunning Palace.

First half, second half, it's all meh. I thought the "best moments" of this drama were when his eyes turn red and they let him act fierce and dangerous. It only happened a few times, just for a few seconds each time. It was a shame they didn't understand what parts they were getting wrong and what parts they were getting right.

And even in the first half, they do that thing where they break up the best scene in the episode between the ending/beginning of two episodes, to leave it on a cliffhanger to keep people tuning in for the next week. Nearly every single episode they did this. That's lame. The best scene in an episode should be uninterrupted. Its cheap and gimmicky to do what they did. If the story is strong enough to stand on it's own feet, you don't need cheap gimmicks like that to hold people's interest.

And Gina brought up a good point about how he could be hanging out at thrilling, dark dangerous places looking for souls to make deals with, but no, he's preying on grieving parents at the pediatric cancer ward. It just spilled all it's potential right down the drain from the outset. The dozen or so "good moments" in My Demon, can't make up for the double whammy of mediocrity and cringe this drama exudes. I see no first half/second half distinction, personally.

If she ends up publicly seeing either LYX or ZLH, their fans would start gang-fighting eachother like the news crews in Anchorman.

In episode 2 XW says to his assistant that it's good she fears him because her fear of him will keep her tendency to disobey in check -----> this could be seen as him wanting to keep control over her so she doesn't ruin his plans. BUT it could also be seen as him coming to the slow understanding that he can keep her safe if he can control her actions, because her disobedience could and up leading to her putting HERSELF in danger. If she fears him, she will listen to him and he can protect her.

In episode 4, FL confronts XW about "why won't you let me leave the palace, it's because i know your secret and you want to keep an eye on me, isnt it." And sort of apropos of nothing, he asks her what her relationship is with Yan Lin because he'd heard they were deeply in love. ----> This could be seen as XW wanting to know more about if Yan Lin could ever find out his secret, or if YL already might know about his secret. BUT, it could also be seen as XW unable to control his curiosity about her love life, and whether her heart is spoken for. He probably doesn't let her leave the palace because he's already too curious about her to let her go.

Episode 6.... he goes to eat BBQ with Yan Lin and FL. When she starts horsing around with Yan Lin, XW gets stern with her and reprimands her while calling her Ning'er. Asserting dominance over YL's relationship with her because he already wants to claim her as his.

I'm doing a rewatch right now. You can tell he's falling for her from the very beginning:

Way way too long considering that one, the plot is "modern c-drama business plot", like mind-numbingly boring... and two, that the good kisses (of which there are precious few, but they are decent) are all after episode THIRTY. The last few episodes have a little bit of spice, and I mean a LITTLE. Bai Lu was really cute as the FL. ML was meh but is a great onscreen kisser. OST was atrocious and the longer the drama went on, the more I had to mute the horrid and intrusive songs and background music, which became increasingly emotionally tonedeaf as the show progressed.

Also kind of lame that the plot is mainly driven by "misunderstandings".

I would have given it a 7 if there werent thrity six friggin episodes, and for that I knocked it down to a 6.5

I was calling them out. But it's to the level now where if I call them all out when i see them, I'll just be the next stacy, hammering this page with red roses, because they are crawling all over the place.

If anyone wonders why the three of us are still here weeks later after watching such a mediocre drama.... this is why. Because us and Carla seem to be the only Sherlock Holmeses here who have actually figured this out. And Carla doesn't care anymore she's on to something else, as well she should be. Good for her. But a lot of people keep blowing through here thinking that the problem on this page is "the fighting" or "the negativity" or the "obsessed haters".

Okay, i'm back for another round of "What can I watch to fill the void this show left me with"

I just watched a couple more crappy shows... but I did find a mini-episode c-drama that is quite thrilling, for a one-night binge watch: Taking Love as Contract.

I think it might help with Xie Wei withdrawls because the ML has a similar dark intensity. The kiss scenes are great.

In a less objective way, just my personal opinions of TLAC... was that for a mini c-drama the dialogue is a bit better than average. The plot is simplistic, the story is completely and brutally "cut the bullshit" storytelling in ultra-fast-mode. But even though the plot is goofy and simple, it's not predictable or boring. I still have to wait for the last episode to translate, so I have one episode left to go, and I have no idea how it will end. So that's fun.

Basically it was a cool yet stupid binge watch with a hottt dark ML and such spicy spicy kiss scenes wow. And it might take your mind off Xie Wei withdrawls for a few hours.

I also just finished The Last Immortal, and it's okay I guess, but it will NOT fill the Xie Wei void. Not at all! I do not recommend. But I didn't think it was bad, also. It was def better than AJTL or LYF that's for sure. There's just very little "romance" in it is all. And it's not too terribly original.... it's a standard wuxia, but executed slightly above average compared to most standard wuxias. And ML is in no way dark.

Me either, I don't trust 10's, because if you go into the user profiles of people who "gave it a 10", you find out they give everything a 10. Their 10 doesn't mean anything.

I gave this a 10. But if you go into my profile, you will see that out of 250 dramas, this show is the ONLY ten I've ever given out. Evar.

Yes, way. I skipped about 90% of the first 2 episodes because I hate flashbacks so much. My viewing experience didn't suffer for it because I just asked questions here when I was confused on something, and got the recap. Even with tedious flashbacks, this show is EASILY now in my all time top 5 dramas ever. There will be a few more flashback sequences, but nothing as bad as first 2 eps.

Just ask here if you see a flashback in future episodes or there's something you don't understand and it'll be totally fine.
