@Tongko: NIF is not plagiarized, it's the same genre as Count of Monte Cristo... it's a serious accusation and a baseless one. The methods are different as is the purpose of the intrigue. Which leads to completely different scale. Dantes is a destroyer, NIF's hero is a fixer.
Not to mention that bringing plagiarism on a page of a drama based of on the book of a notorious plagiarist to bring other show down is hypocritical.


But why do people think NIF has a sad ending? It's succesful. Everything is fixed and resolved in the end.

I liked when he started referring to her that way, it marked his change. It was the subtlest of his weapons and was so passive-agressive.

I really enjoy this despite its flaws. Yes, everything that happens is awfully convenient. All the story structure is there, glaring at the viewer and not even trying to conceal itself. Most of the characters share common traits and move like chess figures, appearing when and where needed, having their sudden revelations on cue. Evidence is destroyed on a daily basis only to close a path and force the flow in a certain direction. It's like a machine.

woah, it's so fast paced and densely packed. I can easily imagine episode 1 material lasting for 4-10 eps in other drama. Most of the family and love relations are just settled in ep 1, leaving space to the plot.

/I wonder is it supposed to be loosely based on Shakespear since the title is in english-like form? There's an island (duh, it's Japan), a fallen, banished dynasty and some supernatural elements. A foreign shipwreck plays some part in the plot. But that's all so far. There's a witchy woman and a single father with a daughter, but that's a stretch.
From the synopsis, I wasn't prepared for CGI bits. Maybe it should have a 'supernatural'/'fantasy' tag? True, it doesn't look high-budget or very cutting edge, but it's imaginative and not overused, so it blends somehow. Expect sculpted wooden dragons on the palace roof to come alive and twist with stormy clouds in one giant whirl. I liked how they resolved that part when she was forced to undress too, but no spoilers. Those bits are inserted into typical understated style of j-historical, so that's something new to me.
And there's some jazz mixed within music background to add to general bizzarity .

@inspirit91: I don't think KT was sick from the beginning, it happened later. He and Kang Ho got their check ups early and knowing they're clear, assumed it's Ha Won who's sick. If he knew from the beginning, he wouldn't worry about HW and Seo Hyun knowing all along would be extremely shady. Seo Hyun picked up his symptoms, but didn't know for sure from the start.

What did she do right? She was extremely childish, egoistic, kept running around endangering everyone around her without a bit of gratitude or family feelings. She had no political sense whatsoever (or common sense to start with) and neither she nor the male lead weren't too smart. Does she get a major character development in second half?

Yeah, I noticed that too. Sometimes when a new episode is released and old are already 100% done, it calculates an average on main page, leading one to think the subs for the new episodes are more advanced than they really are.
Older dramas could have fallen a prey to past changes on the site perhaps, I remember some things were lost back then (old timed comments mostly).
I guess I have to monitor viki then.

I disagree. Maybe you're seeing her in similar kind of dramas/movies only? That's my third drama of her (after Shinigami-kun and Underwear/Atelier) and everytime she played different characters and delivered them differently. Although the image she had in those dramas played a role too, her outfit and attitude in Shinigami-kun did half the job. But even when you compare her here and in Atelier, with a very similar synopis (a girl in need of a makeover in her new workplace), she's not that similar despite the common points. Here she's mousier, more socially awkward and one-dimensional (as a whole drama compared with Atelier).

I partly agree. First, those scenes with him trying too hard were funny for me, even if not completely agreeing with my idea of how a 900+ year old creature should behave. I acknowledge the writter had a different concept and instead of something deep and wise (that kind of wisdom that comes from centuries of getting bored and cynical) decided to go against the expectations and show him as still playful and youthful in spirit (compare: scenes when Goblin and Reaper fought like kids, breaking the idea of them as serious beings). Also: petty, jealous and not admitting his feelings. Those scene humanized him and made him more relatable, showing how he cared to look good for Eun Tak - he didn't want to impress her only because he was shallow or self-concious, but because he wanted to won her. After all those years of loneliness he very desperate for her acceptance. Second, it fit within his character building! Owning old paintings he could possibly get straight from the source, maybe even knowing their makers, getting them when they were still cheap and keeping it as an investition (or jjust for pleasure) all fit within an image of an immortal creature. It wasn't untoughtful of the writter to add this detail.
(Although the illusion was broken once they became lazy and tried to push The Night Watch waaay too small, but that's just me nitpicking...)
I cringe everytime when I see a movie/.. with a vampire posing as a highschooler (if I was a vampire, nothing would force me to repeat HS over and over again) [replace 'vampire' and 'highschooler' with 'goblin' and 'wealthy man in his early 30s with an impressive collection of coats'], but it's a steoretype that an immortal creature has to be wise and all serious.

One more thing to remember: some people seem to have a problem with age difference, so it has to be constantly blurred for their comfort. In a sense, he had to be childish.

If you liked it, you may enjoy an anime called Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu. Both have a love triangle of sorts, are bordering queer topics (but it's a huge simplification to put it this way) and most importantly center around a traditional form of art deemed obsolete (a kind of one man theater/storytelling in SGRS). The obstacles are different of course, as is the outcome, but both are an exquisite pieces and I couldn't recommend watching it highly enough.

I'm so mad at this. Abandoning someone on an operating table isn't an open ending, it's a betrayal of a character. There are limits.
I want second season too, especially if they went for slice of life format. It could go on and on. There's still plenty material to develop. We can meet the first son and Ho Won brother could come to Seoul, so we would have more of him. Or bring Dr Seo back. I'd gladly watched them all selling furniture (can't believe I'm writting this).

Do you remember how long the arc with chidren actors lasts?

I wanted to ask what's there to CGI in a drama that doesn't sound like a fantasy from the description but then I saw a giant lampart with a horn on its forehead. Silly question.
But have you seen what they're doing with actors and actresses hair later. They didn't skimp on those fans.
