I think there's a bad news on the horizon for people who are still hopeful about the Prime Minister. I've rewatched…
But why does it matter whether her feelings are real or fake, it's her life, not his, her career, not his, & her fake or real husband, not his. And PM cannot stop Heejoo from doing what she wants to do, at this point it's clear no one can stand in her way. Plus, PM has ALWAYS shown his support unconditionally so if there is argument or backstabbing, it will be over something like if Heejoo is in trouble again & Prince Yi-An is unable to protect her. I can see that as something that will make PM angry & withdraw support. The couple already has too many enemies, I don't think PM is going to risk losing TWO friends.
I've seen a lot of posts here on ML's acting ability & role & this is what I think: The drama is primarily an IU vehicle. She gets to rescue the prince & get everything else as well, while being super rich, super ambitious & non-snobbish, playing into the fantasy of largely female audience who want to see a woman have her cake & eat it too. I think I read somewhere it was her agency who worked with Disney on this project. So the drama is built around her & is supposed to lift her up / give her a glamorous, PPL-marketing success.
Even though I think ML is more of 'traffic idol' kind of actor (hired talent who sells products as opposed to 'acting') - his job in this drama is to look like dreamy eye candy & he & the drama's team of stylists have nailed the look. Plus, he may have limited 'acting' range, but it works in his favor because here the role is that of a repressed, reserved, aristocratic, regal man, who is aloof, is suspicious of other people's motives & is a loner because of life spent in the public eye. Since all of his immediate family died in weird circumstances, he's a sad individual. He didn't take risks before Heejoo & follows royal protocol. This kind of person is not going to be life of any party or be overtly charismatic or woo the girl. And that distant personality makes him seem unattainable which is part of his role as a coveted, eligible bachelor royal. If he was prancing around as a peacock, he would not look swoon-worthy or classy. Of course, his face does not move - is it because of facial fillers or lack of acting ability, it doesn't matter, because his role requires him to be a man of few words & to be quietly gentle. I think ML fits the role very well.
The romance is also with Heejoo, who has learnt to put a 'game-face' on while she remains vulnerable & insecure as a person & as a woman, since she never got approval at home. She sees that even though Prince Yi-An was a stranger till a month ago, he has been there for her more than anyone else in his non-abrasive, quiet manner. ML is perfect for this role.
Haha no that's impossible especially the episode increase 😂. TV schedules are meticulously planned. Even a…
But kdramas used to increase at least an episode when the drama got popular. Isn't Perfect Crown popular (I know it's on Disney which limits its reach & viewership) but isn't this drama trending in South Korea?
Doubtful. Someone did post that the writer is creating a manhwa set at the royal school, while the leads attended.
Cool! But I really wanted an extension of Heejoo & Prince Yi-Ahn's story in the present day - since a lot is still left to be covered in the last 6 episodes, mysteries, killers & family estrangements to be resolved, & it doesn't look like they'll get much peace (or time to act like a real working couple) till the end!
Is there a chance of episodes being increased from 12 to 14 at least? And a season 2 to show their life as a couple representing K-monarchy with a new villain or something?
The drama since the first episode has made it clear that Huiju is not a likeable character. Only in some instances…
'I think she wants to give a statement like- Yeah what, I am illegitimate, a commoner, I don't follow rules, I dare to wear same colours as Majesty, and Queen Mother, who cares, I will never bend, do what you want, but the Grand Prince is still mine, he still wants me. She wants to be this brat in front of all.'
Maybe all of the royal deaths are accidental, and not assassinations? All (or most of) their deaths are suspicious,…
I believe all deaths of Prince Yi-An's side of family have been unnatural & done by QM's dad for power OR someone in the shadows who doesn't want monarchy-system: - the former queen / mom (of course, truck of doom) - this was probably done to take control of 'raising the crown prince & second-born' away from the 'human'-queen (who on the phone with Prince sounded like a mom not a queen, unlike the current QM).
- the dad/king (heart attack; for a middle-aged man to die suddenly without actual disease, it is fishy), - this was probably done to hasten the rise of crown prince as king.
- the crown prince/ former king: Remember, he did not even want to marry QM and felt duty-bound to do so, & then died in a fire right after trying to abdicate.
What I don't understand is why no attempt has been made on Prince Yi-An's life & on 8yo Majesty.
No, she's been single all these years because she's an ambitious businesswoman who is not accepted by her own…
'So our girl been single all these years b/c these dolts both had a crush but neither made a move b/c of their friendship (and likely some rank stuff too).' I was referring to what you implied. It's a figure of speech. Maybe English is not your first language.
and also from the last episode i guess he was the one who knew from the beginning how i-an felt about hui ju....
High school crushes or likes are one thing, adult romance & marriage is another. PM does not owe it to prince or anyone to care for their past feelings or new feelings & vice versa. They are all supposed to be grownups.
I think a lot of guys liked her, she was just very unapproachable. In the scene you've mentioned, PM slings the arrow bullseye after learning the trick from Heejoo but instead of saying she taught me this move or she's smart or yeah we practice together, he says 'she's pretty,' flippantly (locker room kind of talk). And Prince notices he likes her & is casual about her. We haven't seen the end of that scene.
Doesn’t the Prime Minister realize that he will damage Hui Ju’s reputation if he keeps trying to come between…
PM has been good friends with Heejoo since high school, and they are very informal with each other. I personally think there are better ways to show a man (Prince) liking a woman than to show him being jealous of her enjoying conversation or hanging out with another male friend. But this is done all the time in dramas. This very regressive behavior is normalised in kdramas & elsewhere.
Here, we have 3 ambitious people - all at the pinnacle of their success and love has never been part of any of their plans up til now. The problem with Heejoo is that she's marrying entirely to get divorced (that's her plan) that's why she didn't say yes to PM, because his political career will take a hit when or if they divorce (& because of her business dealings). She does care for him.
The drama since the first episode has made it clear that Huiju is not a likeable character. Only in some instances…
No Heejoo & Prince are not against the class system. Heejoo is one of the richest people in Korea, she is part of the 1% elite 'class'. They both are. Both belong to the creme de la creme 'class'. Her fight is against the patriarchal system that favors a moronic brother over her despite all her accomplishments. Yes, Prince Yi-An's fight is over rigid restrictive royal rules but it's not over 'class', it's because royal rules turn life robotic and royals are miserable, plus royal rules render him useless as a second-born & he wants power.
Royal events are just like any other event - they come with their own dress codes & TOR's. It's not about class. For e.g. British Royal Family holds garden tea parties during summer. The dress code is knee-length dresses, I think. It would be considered rude if someone came in a tank top and shorts (& I don't know whether they'd even be allowed in). It has nothing to do with class, but dress code! Prince Yi-An honored and celebrated his nephew on his b'day by wearing the gift 8yo Majesty had given him (so even though QM was pissed off, it showed he had manners & respect for the king).
When she wore the red dress, she was trying to sell a clickbait image of a trail blazing female entrepreneur. When she was invited to 20 women royal event, she was said to be 'involved' with prince, & should have shown decorum in proper dress code to show respect for monarchy. Like I said, I thought it was rude & not needed. There's a time and place for everything.
Only QM has racist ideas like 'lineage' 'bluebloodness' 'old money' 'inborn nobility' 'accident of birth' 'money can't buy class' etc. And I think we all agree she's a passive aggressive OTT psycho Joseon diva living in pressure of what her family's heritage is & is probably jealous of Prince Yi-An & Heejoo & afraid of her power slipping away.
queen mother has been nothing but rude to huiju in front and behind her back like do you expect her to do nothing…
No, technically & actually QM invited her, as she did everyone else (it does not matter who told her to invite A,B,C,D). It's her event - & she's a royal, whether we like it or not. And the dress code is dangui / hanbok.
Prince Yi-An wore what his 8yo nephew (His Majesty) had gifted him - & it was the nephew's b'day. So he showed respect to the king, if not the QM, even if he flouted a type of dress. It's basic manners to wear the dress code (formal/ informal/ casual/beach wear) as to the event even in normal life. And Heejoo is non-royal. She cannot decide what to do or not to do at a royal event especially when she wants to marry into it. She is disrespectful to royal life and temperament. My post isn't about anything else other than dress code & honoring & respecting traditions & royal events. It's the least she can do.
The drama since the first episode has made it clear that Huiju is not a likeable character. Only in some instances…
I know about Heejoo & Prince's personalities, life experiences, goals, fears from these 5 episodes. And I don't think Heejoo is unlikeable. All I've said is the event was bigger than QM, Heejoo & attendees - it was a representation of Korea, its history, royalty/ dynasty within the context of this drama (& media was covering it as a puff piece too - basically feel-good publicity for royal work). What Heejoo did made her uncool in my book. She wants the title, privilege & status & power & more money by being a royal (& she'll get everything, I know) but she doesn't want the responsibility or work or decorum of a royal. There's no balance in the story.
You guys keep saying you are tired of watching a 'weak' female in dramas - that is just my point - flouting royal dress code for an official engagement/event did not make Heejoo brave, it made her rude & not worthy of being royal.
This is exactly the debate that is occurring in the modern world too - about royals turning themselves into celebrities or acting like celebs - Heejoo is a celebrity, world is full of celebrities, Prince is not, he's royalty - one of a kind (because of that title), so atleast show some respect for royal traditions - because it is supposed to be bigger than QM, His Majesty, Prince etc. - it represents South Korea.
So our girl been single all these years b/c these dolts both had a crush but neither made a move b/c of their…
No, she's been single all these years because she's an ambitious businesswoman who is not accepted by her own father & only thought of marriage when her father was arranging her marriage. Yes, PM should've made a move because he was more open & friendly with her, but he wants to see her succeed no matter what above all romantic feelings, & Prince Yi-An just didn't have the guts due to royal status / duties. It wasn't like she was waiting for either of them.
Ep. 5: I did not like this episode. I think it was extremely rude of Heejoo (& ill-concept for drama to promote) when she came in pant-suit-tie to a gathering of 20 women invited by QM in traditional / historical South Korean wear - an invite that opens doors on diplomatic level for all invitees. There was nothing wrong about following tradition & wearing a dangui dress (maybe HeeJoo could've put her own fashion spin on it) & acknowledge & honor South Korean dynastic wear, since everyone was wearing it. I know QM is a passive-aggressive psycho at this point (& what she said to HeeJoo was deeply racist - 'that all things cannot be taught to everyone') but to get back at QM in this way (& wear white, showing equal passive-aggressive behavior) just to stand out in the crowd, shows Heejoo is a deeply insecure woman, who can never be graceful or tactful & is unsuited for royal life. You need to pick your battles & when in Rome, do as Romans do. She showed rudeness, not bravery.
And what's worse? A prince / man came to give Heejoo 'first row' status amongst all these elite women who had to bow to her only because a man was by her side - so she did not earn it on her own merit either - so what message was the white pant-suit-tie supposed to deliver? I know QM & those elites think they are special because of accident of birth, but there's a reason Heejoo went after Prince - to get royal noble status - because there are plenty of businesswomen like her, & there's only ONE eligible royal of marriageable age, that makes royals unique, more unique than her - but she just wants the title without any of the duties or rules or decorum.
For e.g. in Ep. 6, she's wearing a ballgown - why doesn't she show up in a pant suit / black mini skirt for that one? Flout rules & wear club attire to royal dance!!!
Plus, I did not like the episode, it was weak & slow on many levels. Unfortunately, Prince Yi-An is looking like a cardboard at this point. He & Heejoo did not share the info on investigation. Heejoo cannot be right every time, but this female audience fantasy to see a woman get her way no matter how unreasonable & obnoxious she may be is a put off.
