Hope we get to see Yusuke's partner at some point, if he's moving back in. Things are still unfinished with his father and the show needs to commit since they decided to intoduce this plot point.
With this and Ase to Sekken, I think PG-13 roman porno isn't a bad direction to take the late night MBS sex drama. The outlandishness gives it character.
Kobayashi Keiichi going full early Hashiguchi Ryosuke with some of the scenes here. Love it. Was hoping he would tap into that energy again after The Time of Backlights. (Lots of rain in that movie too. Man loves his rain scenes lol.)
Wait, what do you mean 4 characters? You mean Japanese alphabet characters? I don't understand Japanese, so I…
Ryuji regularly speaks in yojijukugo, which are 4-character idioms. They're meant to be poetic since they contain entire thoughts in just 4 characters. (Traditional Kanji alphabet is character-based rather than the syllabic Hiragana.) They flip this later: when he angrily texts Issei, he does it using just 4-character phrases (though he gives up after the first few texts, which is the punchline). It's a background joke that gets lost since it doesn't really translate.
It's nice to see Kumada Rinka again after Marry Me! Still cute as ever. First episode felt like a cross between the two Abema dramas Black Cinderella and Animals.
It's an interesting premise as a multimedia project, having the narrative unfold in different formats over different platforms. Though from my understanding, the important stuff is in the drama itself and on the smash. app. Hopefully I can see the full picture one day.
Certainly a very different plot for a special, but enjoyable nonetheless. I like that they managed to tie it back to the narrative's central themes. It's worth a look if you liked the series!
Man, I would love a series of this. Standard food drama fare, for sure, but there's so many ways to play with themes surrounding community and connection, tied to the process of farming, cooking and eating as a social activity. Imagine all the places around rural Japan they could visit!
Another winner for the Tsukahara Ayuko/Junko Arai combi. Like most of their work so far, gripping edge-of-your-seat serial storytelling with just the right sprinkle of melodrama, grounded by great performances and real heart.
My heart goes out to his family and friends. May he rest in peace.
