Can someone tell me if this has a sad ending? I really want to see it, but that premise suggests heartache.

Oh, I think my comment may have lacked a little context. I was referring to the fact that so many people complain that the acting is flat and stiff, without seeing the intention behind it. I think it's quite clearly intentional, the understated and reserved nature of the main character, etc. I'm glad people were dissecting it more earlier on, and there are certainly plenty of people who do appreciate the layers of these characters and how they're portrayed. I just find it odd that so many people didn't see the deliberate nature of the main character. He was supposed to be kind of odd. It wasn't a sign of poor skill on the part of the actor, you know?

I don't know, as someone who isn't even slightly quiet and awkward, I guess I just feel a little protective over those who aren't as socially comfortable or expressive. But I agree with you that it absolutely isn't meant to be an exciting, fast-paced story. It's a slice of life about growth and self-acceptance. It's not everyone's cup of tea, but that doesn't make it bad.

Man, it makes me so sad that this beautiful guy keeps dropping out of things I'm getting into right before I discover them. The Boyz is amazing (poor baby, dealing with that injury), and now he's mysteriously just dropping out of a lead role in this show? Why? So sad.

I mean, it's all but confirmed with that photo from their shoot, but it'd be nice if that weren't the case. Fingers crossed that it's awesome, whatever the truth may be! They'd be crazy not to have Mix heavily featured, since EarthMix is so popular and successful. I'm holding onto hope but also preparing myself, just in case, haha.

Yeah, it was announced a few days after I posted this! Sadly, it was immediately met with controversy. :( I guess it's a body swap story with a het romance, and I'm not crazy about those either, but I don't want to lose hope that it'll be good.

Holy.... wtf. I had no idea what this was gonna be like, and after the teaser, I feel like I might not be prepared for this. I'm excited and terrified, not because of the horror but because I know I'm gonna get attached to the characters, and watching them slaughter each other and go crazy when we see how much they all care about each other in the first half... UGH. Yet here I am, eagerly waiting for it to come out.

This is one I won't be watching as it releases, haha. Could you imagine the cliffhangers?

I'm still digesting it, but overall, I think it couldn't decide if it wanted to be horror, erotica, or arthouse, and it ended up being none of the above. The first half was basically a walking simulator, and there was no plot. It was just a snapshot. I suppose there was a message and symbolism mixed into that, but to be honest, I wasn't pulled in enough to decipher it. I mean, there's the surface concept of love and how one might be infected by it while the other person is unaffected. It could also be a dig at gay culture itself, some toxicity that seems to be a common theme in shorts like this. It's shallow if that's the case.

Maybe some other people will see more than I did and change my perspective.

This is just a compilation of the series with one noticeable difference that I can see, having watched one right after the other. I suggest watching the show, then skipping straight to the bed scene at the end. In the show, it was more PG in nature, but it's much more suggestive in the movie.

Seriously, want a slightly steamier sex scene? Skip to that part. Otherwise, skip the entire thing.

Thank you for the link. Yeah, I don't understand Vietnamese even a little. My grasp of Thai is pretty weak too. I couldn't find an English version, so I'm bummed. But at least I can watch the full thing.

I agree! I feel like a lot of times they're the butt of the joke or just very unusual and cut off. They're often portrayed as not even having emotions, too. My sister has autism, and she's a very smart, kind, friendly person who socializes very well. It's nice to get some complexity. It does bum me out how many people didn't pick up on this and thought it meant the actor was bad and robotic. It just goes to show that we still have a long way to go when it comes to educating people on the different types of individuals there are.

Maybe, but the name he said on the phone was a girl's. They could be faking us out, but it sounds like he was being honest about the girlfriend part.

It's a little sad to me how so many people didn't see the nuance of the characters in this show. It's sort of reflective of a society that values extroversion and the neurotypical over people who express themselves differently. The acting was very consistent and appropriate for the roles they were playing, and I really appreciated the fact that the quiet and awkward people weren't also dumb and clueless. I think a lot of thought went into these portrayals, and I really fell in love with the main four.

That's what I said! I was actually hoping that was what they were going for with him. It would make so much sense with how he's trying to understand the norms and nuances of social interaction. His facial expressions, his bluntness, his tendency to take things at face value, and his intense focus on a single task. It would be really cool if that was the intention. Seeing an autistic character be loved and accepted like that is awesome. People didn't think he was weird just because he was different. They found him charming.

My heart hurts so much. I wish we could have seen the one who isn't chosen with a sweet boyfriend. But I did love, love, love that they all stay such good friends. Even with the heartache of the two of them loving the same boy, they still care about one another.

I really wanted Mix to get a man.

I'm a huge crybaby, and I get upset very easily, but I actually didn't think the ending was as sad as people made me think it would be! It definitely made me cry, and their tears and feelings were so, so real. But it was perfect and beautiful because they're in a place now where they completely love and embrace one another without hiding anything anymore. The ending is hopeful. This is how they started. They fell in love through the screens between them. They can keep it up for a little while, and they'll be together again eventually. It sucks that they won't be able to visit as often, but they fell madly in love without even being able to touch one another. They can make it through, and the emotional declarations of love just sealed it. What a great final shot.

I imagine a season following the film's ending would involve Gav taking care of his aunt while Cai goes to school, bits of drama in the form of new people each of them are meeting, and ultimately a sad spot for Gav when his aunt passes. But the season would ideally end like the first one, with them coming together, only this time it's permanent. I feel like that would really send the show off the way it deserves. Here's hoping we get something like that, but if for whatever reason we only get an ending like the film's, we can at least know that they DO end up together. Just like Cai's mom had to wait five years to be with his dad, they can make a year or two work. This isn't forever. So don't cry, guys!

WOW was this movie tonally different from the show. It didn't come across as random at all, but that goofy, sometimes cringey type of humor was nowhere to be seen here. The acting was better, the story was better. The production value was great. I really loved it. It ends in a way that sets up a new season perfectly, so I really hope they don't just extend the movie for season two. Okay, gonna talk about the ending in a spoiler now.

It said this aired already. Is that a mistake? I would imagine people would be posting about it here if it weren't.
