Ok here's my theory

korean low budget drama actors have a tendency to be so stoic and stiff, they don't make you feel anything and deliver their lines as if reading the script for the first time...

On a societal level I think in some capacity the toxicity between a mlm couple is what is exciting for a lot of viewers. Male controlling behavior has been directed towards women for so long in popular media that seeing a male character being dominated is part of the appeal (without denying that it is indeed harmful and reinforces unbalanced dynamics in couples). We have yet to see women fully dominate a male partner in a sexual dynamic (that I'm aware of, or if we have women are portrayed to actually be the villain), so this is the closest we can get to seeing a man being subordinated and vulnerable. I think the recent popularity of CBL that are overly toxic speaks to this.

I'd agree with you normally but in this drama's case:

1. Eunho is literally having wet dreams about Dohyeon, his rejection is out of fear, not because he's not interested at first

2. Dohyeon knows Eunho is somewhat receptive to him, Eunho didn't reject him when he kissed him and held his hand in the classroom (they confirmed Eunho wasn't sleeping)

3. I wouldn't say Dohyeon cannot accept rejection, Eunho is the one who asked they don't talk to eachother because of this and Dohyeon respected his wishes (albeit only for a day because Eunho couldn't handle it)

This series kinda read like a student project... pacing all over the place, utterly annoying music, can't take the lead seriously because he looks like a literal RUNWAY MODEL (and he is so that checks out)... but it's still charming lol

i consider it lazy writing to have to explain a 6 months time jump in a tv show... you can easily build up a growing relationship between 2 characters over time with like 3 scenes. the evolution of their relationship was very unnatural.

I thought so too for the second half, it took me a month to watch the last ep because I didn't feel excited about it anymore... but the overall storyline was easy to follow and I'm excited for a season 2 with that enemies to lovers trope :)

for 2026 Thailand I'd say Ticket to Heaven and Payback are both quite entertaining/well executed but I haven't finished both so my opinion my change...

putting A Winter Sun and Ash on the same level is insanity

A Winter Sun, Deep In, Revenged Love, To My Shore... heck even ABO Desire had me more engaged lol

This might be an unfair comparison because I brought up Cdramas so if I compare with other Hong Kong productions Sammy's Children Day was way tighter than this

I'm actually scared to start season 2, I saw it was a different director and comments so far seem to say it doesn't live up to season 1 :(

there's this weird thing with asian series where you can never critique something because "the staff and actors worked really hard"... if you compare this series with what's been coming out lately the quality isn't there, plain and simple. I'm glad you're enjoying it but it's also okay for me to be objective about it lol

man this isn't very good is it? that bed scene felt like they didn't know whether to pick a sexy or a romantic vibe so they kept alternating between the two... apparently we're supposed to understand later everything that happened in ep. 1, like why they look like they're in love after seeing each other for 5 seconds, why they're FWB from their second meeting with no explanation... can somebody spoil me because I won't bother watching more of this
