I started this when I was sick with flu and watched some 20 episodes in 2 days. The first 10 were really good with constant twists and turns. The middle part from 20-40 felt very repetitive with war after war and neverending palace plots. I skipped all fight scenes and Tanashvili scenes. The last 10 episodes were again a rollercoaster. I think it's best to watch this drama as it originally was meant to be watched, 1-2 episodes per week. Probably only then it's possible to appreciate the big scale of the production and the effort that went into making it visually outstanding. Regardless of this being a classic and must-watch, perhaps, I felt the characters were rather one-dimensional and there could have been more shades to the culprits. Now they are just mainly hatable monsters. I have to say I didn't feel much empathy for the main leads. There were some scenes that stood out for both Ji Chang Wook and Hae Ji Won, but the space they were given to portray character depth was rather limited (in comparison to action scenes). Therefore Taltal emerged as one of the most interesting characters, as there was slow progression in his coming to the fore. All in all, with the ending (not an actual victory) and the permanent wars and power struggles and last speeches of the Empress Dowager and Head of Eagle House, I felt the message was one of there being always shadow forces and continuity in power politics regardless of people in charge changing.

I've tried both and didn't manage to get immersed. The male lead of Queen for 7 Days is just a very bad choice for the drama, he just looks constantly irritated and annoyed, even in scenes supposed to be romantic, there's no expression in his eyes. Tale of Nokdu is lighter and very good imo. My Mister is probably/supposedly mainly artistic with characters wandering around in the city at dark :) I just find it very boring.

Tale of Nokdu has a great ending. Also King's Affection.

This is not actually a romcom, it's not very lighthearted or cute. Teen dramas tend to be dismissed easily as just that just bc of expectations. This is neither too dark or too light imo. The theme is rather universal, whether to stand up to fight injustice, or to go with the crowd which is always easier. Very few people can stand strongly behind what they see as right and ethical when the rest just have an easy time not caring. School bullying and burnout due to insane pressures and competition are also rather universal I guess, not only happening in SK. Also the rich/poor divide is strongly accentuated here. The romance thread is nicely executed. In good taste. This is far from a perfect k-drama but worth watching nevertheless.

I started watching expecting an entertaining and funny rom com. The iconic scenes appear in so many thematic drama mixes (which I love, long live Drama Master). But found it just disappointing in many respects. The humour is mostly cringeworthy, the characters cause second-hand embarrassment, most of the time. Thre'se no witty dialogue, or deeper themes, as far as I've watched (11 episodes). The second lead couple is quite uniquely uninteresting, I've found myself fast-forwarding most of their scenes. This is just my personal opinion. If it gets better in the last episodes, we'll see, but I don't have high hopes. I think I'd had spent my time better rewatching an older fave like My Love From the Star. Reminder to myself: if the first ep's suck, don't continue.

You don't have to hate romcoms so deeply or slander MDLers to praise a series. Give some thought to your attitude please. This is the 2nd time saying the same thing.

nothing that comes from Hollywood is worth watching. I'm all done with it, K-drama is superior. And I've lived a long time to fully appreciate the differences. I thought you would say what sucks in Netflix productions is bringing the Hollywood elements to k-dramaland. K-originals are more focused on bringing the characters to life rather than superficial elements (sex, etc). I wouldn't think Hollywood would understand Gong Yoo qualities.

I really appreciate the series, its intelligent and gives a lot of food for thought. I wouldn't deny the plotholes either. Especially, given that its hinted that Ruy and the Captain knew nearly all about what had happened earlier, howcome they made the decisions that they made during the exploration? It makes no sense to me that the crew shared so little information after their mission had been changed. Rather than the shock effects being at the core (they still are, even though this is not Sweet Home or Kingdom) I'd have wished more focus on the crew and their thinking and moral decisions. Netflix k-dramas don't bring the characters as closeand as alive as k-originals, they focus on a few superficial characteristics and great actors are left with little to work on.

Yes, it's very painful, that speech. But I appreciate for that very reason, it's so real. how our background and experiences influence our reception of a series is def a factor.

This is a psychological thriller with hitchcockian undertones. I'm stunned by how original and interesting this is. Capturing. The writer and director have achieved an amazing series. I guess pychological dramas are not everyone's piece of cake (comparing to likewise low ratings of Cheese In the Trap) but this is definitely amongst all time top serious k-dramas for me. It's offering a lot of food for thought. I don't think the descriptions the drama or its themes do any justice to it - jealousy and vengeance are too superficial ideas/drivers and this drama is much more deep and layered to be described in those terms. If something, it tells that some people just don't seem to have the gift for happiness. Looking for another person to deliver all the goods things in life is a doomed mission. Happiness is a choice as much as anything else. The writer would deserve the award this year, that much is already clear. All the actors are great in their roles. There is no overacting . I was always wondering why didn't we hear more of the Leo in "Black". Here he is now, maybe still starting but starting good. Poor Kim Bo Yun always has these roles as the obnoxious mother - she's good but I'd like to see her in the "good mother" role for a change :)
