My alternative ending for my sanity: Sun Hui went to "Canada" - code for a psych ward and that fairytale end was…
much better!

This was intriguing in the beginning, but the second half was unconvincing. Maybe I felt sleepy but I didn't get why Su Yeon got out of jail? What parts of her crimes were cleared up to the police, what not? She was a psycho, who definitely could not have changed that much in jail. Did the father die? Wasn't that murder on Seon Hui's part? All the psychological thrillers (My Happy Ending, Marry My Husband, Hide) fall flat when people go on full psycho mode, as the father in this drama. The last episode needed new twists and turns, but was just lame. For us who enjoy psychological thrillers, I wouldn't recommend starting this drama but to watch Bittersweet Hell, or Regeneration. Both get more exciting towards to end, as should be.

Don't you ask yourself, what kind of watcher do the director and writer of this drama assume you to be? What they were sure you would enjoy? They assume you like to see a lot of blood and violence (without giving any backround or reason to it), and you're a 15 year old boy who enjoys sex ecenes they can jerk off to. And what about the sex that was shown? Not exactly anything but abusive and degrading. The servants had to lick the king while his wounds were treated. A disgusting idea and vision. Servants had to lick a queen of another country, while she was holding court. A disgusting idea and vision. 3rd prince raped his wife and then killed him. Don't tell me that wasn't violent rapey sex. The shaman drugged the sister and then had sex with her. Was that consensual? We, as watchers, were put in the role of peeping Toms. What else? Another servant had to bathe nude so that the 4th prince could jerk off watching her. That was quite imaginative, but only in the sense that directors as a rule tend to observe some boundaries for what they choose to show to the watchers. Especially in k-dramas. Don't tell me all this filth was justified bc people in that historical period had filthy minds and behaviors. People have always been people with values, social norms and rules of acceptable behaviors. Yes, people have dirty minds even in Korea. Psychos are shown in most dramas. I'm not disappointed bs of one trashy drama but how people applaud it and ignore everything that is really wrong with it. I don't know if these people are just desensitized or whether this is what they truly want, or both.

I swear many scenes in ep's 6-8 were more like a parody of a historical drama Queen Woo than the actual drama. Putting this much money in the hands of virtual amateurs was a very bad decision. And giving them the best kdrama actors, to only appear in short and random moments. There was no build up to the important moments, like putting the swords on the table. Who were the 2 older guys with the swords? Nobody knows, nobody cares. The queen's explanation of why she chose to go into war came like an afterthought, in the last episode. One minute given to that. Which actually needed an extended buildup. And her addressing the army should have been a long speech, with an extended buildup (again). I doubt the armies would have followed a woman if they were just addressed at the door for one minute when the enemy was already there. Eun Pa Sol was a traitor who kept a skeleton in his closet, so why did he end up supporting the queen? Nobody knows, nobody cares. What was the point of introducing the cult? Just to shoot an impressive scene of some crazies wallowing in the pool. And then a fight afterwards, none of it visible bc it was all dark. We got more of the gritty sex scenes which from a mind so dirty no amount of soap will help to clean it. JWC proved his virtuoso acting and I hope all the k-drama veterans at least had fun sitting together and drinking after each days shooting. Although this drama isn't actually boring and the fools will lap it up like dogs on a hot day, I assure you it's not good for your immortal soul. Congrats to those who can edit it their minds to make a fully fleshed out story and characters. That's a talent I don't have, all I saw was a sketch of a drama instead of the actual drama. I'd recommend Escape From the Trilateral Slopes, for a really great action adventure drama.

I know people consider JJS some epitom of acting but she couldn’t do justice to the role. I've watched her in…
completely agree. I don't know how people don't see or hear how she is just not good enough in this role. The mistakes and awkward moments (scenes and lines that needed to be reshot) are in plain sight in Queen Woo, imo Just like in Wedding Impossible she's just saying the lines in a completely flat tone, there's no sparkle in her. I guess people just buy the idea of what she's supposed to be and don't see the failure in delivering it.

This remained absolutely amazing from start to finish. Hope it doesn't remain a hidden gem., it's far too unique and too great to be missed out on. The cinematography is mindblowing. The characters are just amazing, the acting is perfectly awesome. The adventures and action scenes are balanced with in-depth dialogues. People sitting down, talking and telling their stories, having meals together. These things make this very different from the usual action-adventure dramas. We truly get to know and care about the characters. Maybe this drama is not for the faint hearted bc the setting is a place of complete lawlessness, corruption and warfare. Some of the stories are quite dark. But this isn't actually a stressful drama to watch, more like Raiders of the Lost Ark in the midst of Apocalypse Now. Every episode we think "this is the end, there's no way they can get out this" but they always magically figure out a way to turn the tables. We get to trust that. 10/10, BRAVO, def one of the best dramas ever made imo.

I feel this got boring in 9-10. The timeline doesn't work, for me. Seon Hui still being dumb and with only one expression (that irritates the hell out of me). Parted lips, teary eyes. I wish I could feel sympathy for her but I just want her dumped into the ocean. Will watch the last 2 eps but not looking forward to it.

I just came back from Turkey once gain and there was no toplessness in the beach. People are more culturally sensitive/polite these days which is good. In rare cases a topless on the beach gets one of two kinds of reactions: open amused staring (no respect for the woman) and looking away (angry, bothered).

I guess I was too caught up in the comments on mdl that I kept putting off watching it. Even though I usually…
I have to repeat: people have gotten completely stuck in the idea that explicit content is the only thing that people disliked about this drama. Then they feel they have to take a stand on that one issue only. Queen Woo lacks a fully developed storyline. We don't get to know the characters, which is highly unusual for a k-drama. We don't even get to SEE the characters actually, because it's all in the dark.

Korea rarely makes the long sageuks anymore, I think they really want to sell this as a serious sageuk that doesn't…
If they want to sell this a serious sageuk, the sound effects are anything but. There's Korea Khitan War, though, 30 episodes. Am glad it got awards, there's still some hope maybe.

where does it say it was meant to be a movie? None of the introductory articles say so.
thanks. I'm tempted to say that obviously the rewriting involved removing all the dialogues. Because the characters mainly do not speak. If they do, it's max 2 sentences per each character. Except for the soldier arguing about pay - he's not exactly a comedic sidekick but close to one. And the only character getting something of a distinct character,

This content and situation would easily have made a good 20-40 episode sageuk. We would have learned all about why the clans fight with each other, what is at stake. We would know how the situations and strifes evolved, from the very start. We would have started from the childhood of the main characters. We would get to know all the characters, including supporting ones, through and through. We would have deeply cared about happens to them. We would have understood every party's motives and goals, and had the chance to reflect ourselves on where people make mistakes. We would have been shown how the new king or prime minister is just as ruthless as the previous one after all this fighting (as in Empress Ki). I also noticed that people who think this is "one of the best historical dramas" or "refreshingly different historical drama" have not actually watched the classic sageuks at all. With classic sageuks I mean (of course) Six Flying Dragons, Tree With Deep Roots, Scarlet Heart Ryeo....I don't think I can ever forget the personalities of the main characters in these dramas. Now we get 2 minute characters. And a lot of meaningless killing and violence which we're supposed to enjoy? (with the 2 minute characters). It's wondrous how some watchers have the skill to expand, have by their own imagination expanded, this 8 hour drama into a full fledged story.. I'm not talented that way. I remember looking at the close-up shot of the White Wolves leader's face and thinking "holy hell this definitely was not made for me." Definitely a different historical drama, but not in a good way, imo. But I know already that it'll sweep all the awards bc there are very few of us purists who really appreciate the distinct qualities of k-dramas and those giving awards do not.
