If you like this drama, have a watch of "The Prisoner of Beauty" also based on a novel which they adapted well IMHO although ending as always is rushed,

I prefer the novel, although I can understand adapting it would be hard as the story spans over a decade of fighting, wars. Ye Li does not have PTSD with her maid - who was a real person in the novel.

LiShan mountain is in the novel, but that's where Ye Li based her QiLin Warriors ( I think, it's been over a year since I read it). A 1K strong death squad that she personally trained.

Current episodes feel like an entirely different story now.

This drama has diverged significantly from the novel, until now there is almost no resemblance to it.

Been a while since I read the novel, but I think she was in a political marriage to state of WuMan, got pregnant but she aborted the baby at the price of not being able to have any more children.

So when the story begins, this is a big secret which only a handful of people know. I believe FL is also aware. That's why the previous emperor removed Xia Jing Shi from inheriting the throne and also XJS didn't want the throne as he couldn't have offspring.

It is only after the current holy emperor became a bad ruler that Xia Jing Shi went to war to claim the throne and right at the end everyone found out about it.

So this is all from the novel. Not sure how this will be adapted seeing they start FL off with amnesia which is not in the book.

That's correct, it's Xie YongEr and FL sees it when YongEr talks about things from her time that did not exist.
