No it's not just you. First 18 eps she is one of the worst FL leads (like you said with all the worst character traits a woman can have) I have ever seen in the drama. And the way they brushed off the fact that she was lying is just despicable. And by the time it gets to the "big" part where everyone is saying that she starts to "change" (btw they in no way redeem her for her past actions, they just do a bait and switch, they come up with some quazi emotional sub plot that is supposed to make you feel sorry for her - typical cheap emotional manipulation) it was already too late for me. I downright skipped all of her scenes and didn't miss a thing. She has absolute 0 importance to the plot. At least that.

THANK YOU SO MUCH! At least someone with an ounce of brain. I haven’t read the novel and yet you kinda cleared all those suspicions I had and couldn’t quite pin down. There was were so manny things that felt off, and sooo much (unnecessary) stupidity - mainly Lin An. OMG prob. top 2 most unlikable FL leads in the history of C-dramas. And they were trying so hard to make us like her. And turning characters into complete morons for the sake of cheap laughs and emotional extortion is just appalling. I completely skipped all of her scenes and didn’t miss a thing. As a matter of fact I was better off because of it. Same goes for the other Xu like you said. At one point all this playing dumb just really became annoying. And they spent sooo much time on it, and the important stuff was just skipped. And now you’re saying there’s even more in the novels? I really like this show but all these 10/10 are delusional.

I do have to say I did mostly skip her scenes so might have missed something. But I was expecting nothing less than her, on her own, initiating the appology. Now that would be a worthy redeeming arc :) But hey maybe that’s just me. Also she’s not even in that much beyond ep21 so all good.

Just watched ep21 and still skipping her scenes. Her big moment that you mentioned was more of a mosquito fart. They didn’t redeem her at all. They just swept the whole thing under the rug and used yet another plot armor to solve the thing. They built the whole premise of why he forgives her is because she ‘saved his life’. And the only reason this happend is because she magically appeard just when Grand princess was going to suggest him to solve the case. And for some unexplicable reason (read plot armor) Grand princess doesn’t go through with it and even later tells her that he’s in jail. This whole thing is like watching a montage of lotto winners for the last 5 years. And tell me who finds that interesting.

Haha I understand that, but this so called ‘romance’ is so forced it’s laughable.

She is the most god awful thing in this series. What would otherwise be a near perfect series rivaling the Joy of Life turns into stupidity fest of cringe worthy proportions.

Right!? Cai Wei is a perfect example of a well balanced character. She also throws tantrums, is brash and can be borderline annoying sometimes but has tons of redeemable qualities. And has chemistry with ML from the very first second.

Haha ok, lets see. However, I can't even in good faith give 10/10 to a show that annoyed me to the brink of my patience for 18 episodes. And like I said, I don't mind anti-heroes or even irredeemable ones , but they have to be written really well. This one however was far from it. If you have to use ridiculous plot armor to force you agenda, that is actually the worst kind of writing. I know that the whole tone of it is a bit silly and I really like that, however you can't break the rules of your own world you created just to strong-arm an ridiculous idea into it. Like somebody said, she's a pampered princess that can't do anything right and there are even multiple scenes that show she's on the verge of being downright incompetent and dumb, and then all of a sudden she manages to fool everyone of 18 episodes. And I wouldn't mind that if it was somehow pure luck, or if she had a redeemable quality that would be her driving force. But not only that, the biggest sin they committed is they had to dumb down the ML in the worst possible way to get away with it - a ML mind you that manages to navigate an intricate maze of all the complex characters and he does that in the most sophisticated way. And all these things together is just too much. Don't know if you are familiar with the saying: You can have a nudist and you can have a Buddhist, But to have a nudist Buddhist is just too much :)

That means you resonate wholehartedy with this show and it’s the best thing ever. How can someone resonate with this spoiled brat who has such despicable behaviour? Yes everything else is really good so real shame for this stain.

I don’t know. She has 0 redeemable qualities in the beginning. She’s not even an anti-hero. She’s basically the antithesis of the hero or heroine. Let me see, but doubt I’ll change my mind :)

Everything else is really good. But I really can’t stand her. Or what she represents. The writing is ridiculous. They use such plot armor to achive what they want with her it’s almost laughable. I just hope they don’t backpaddle their questionable decision and brush it off and she gets what she deserves. Ok that’s great to hear that that it’s not a romance thing.

Lol you just validated every point of this review. Why would an average viewer give a shit about who Im Yoona is? Just another in the long line of washed up idols wannabe actors. With the only difference being that her acting is absolutely atrocious. Bae Suzy, altho kinda the same level of acting skills, has at least looks going for her. Which brings me back to the original point. Aside from a few diehard fans, who would call a turd produced by their fave idols a masterpiece if the were but selling it, an average viewer or at least those who are not brain dead, care about those "insignificant" things such as plausible plot, good writing, character development etc

Sooo well said! I couldn't agree more with it! Trying to take Ling'er's cowardly selfishness and pass it off as a virtue in the form of "selflessness". What's funny is that at some point even one of the other characters says it in the scene. (facepalm)

Yue Ru was by far the best character in the series. What a character development! When she first appeared on the screen I absolutely hated her haha.

So without a doubt this was by far the best example ever - a master class, if you will, on how to properly do the second lead. And even though I totally had The Second Lead Syndrome, I didn't mind it so much if they didn't end up together, because of the immense depth and compellingness of the character itself - the identity and the reason for its existence was not predicated on the successful romance, she had so much other qualities going on for her.

Until they went and completely ruined it all and killed her off for cheap sobs and shock value. It just leaves you feel cheated and empty. They really managed to shot them self in the leg, or rather blow their leg off quite a few times. This show is soooo frustrating I can't even described it. And that makes me hate it even more. It went from 10 to 1 back to 10 (with the going back to the past) and finally it dropped to -1 with the ending.
