Taec's character was build that way and you can't change it. For sure we want him to act differently but that's just his character. He's like one of those who keep two legs in two boats and fall. But he did a great comeback.
As for why they didn't show the whole thing behind the cult and other mysteries and reactions from sang mi , umm some things are best left unsaid I believe. Endings are never satisfying but for me execution is important and this drama has been one of the best at that. It's been adapted from a Manhwa so maybe they might have skipped some part in the drama adaption. ^^
