I don't remember a single example showing that the drama was better than the novel. Every time, the drama is either a simpler version or a completely different version of the novel.
There is "love O2O" which was the exact enactment of the novel. I loved the drama before reading the novel.

Personnaly I think that, an adaptation should improve the quality of the story.
It would be boring, to get the same exact copied pasted novel.
The problem is that, sometimes, instead of improving the quality of the work, they stuff it with clichés. They even add or withdraw characters, disregard plot points...

From what I understood, MJH was a darker character in the novel. He wanted to marry LM and fell for ML.
In the drama, he refuses to marry LM who is pestering him, and he also fell for ML.

Personnally, I had enough violence against women in "Love In The Desert".
The trope " I am loving my rapist" #StockholmSyndrom is not appealing to me.

So I am happy that, in this version, MJH is impersonating an hedonist.
