Am I even watching the same drama as some of y’all? 😅 Wu Zhen trusting Wu Zi Shu makes perfect sense, he’s…
They've always been very close and been through a lot together. Like she said in either ep.30 or 31, she said to him, "I don't even know who you are anymore." something like that He's hidden this other side of him from her. People do that all the time. Just when you think you know them, some event in life, especially life changing event, another side of them comes out that you never seen before.
Wu Zhen carries within her the very enemy Mei Zhuyu has long sought to destroy. This painful truth is why she distances herself from him—it’s an act of protection, not rejection. Back in the underground demon city, Mei Zhuyu doesn’t chase after her. Instead, he’s left standing alone, stunned and conflicted. The woman he loves is bound to the evil he’s sworn to fight. That moment of stillness—everyone else gone, and him frozen in thought—speaks volumes.
It took him time to process the heartbreak and the choices he must make.
The drama gives his character very limited screen time, often cutting off emotional scenes abruptly to shift to another character or storyline. That makes Xu Kai’s performance all the more impressive—he conveys so much with so little.
To me, Xu Kai can show how a character feels without changing his facial expression. Even when his face stays calm, I can still sense the emotion through the way he moves, looks, or carries himself. He doesn’t need big reactions to make you feel something—his acting is quiet but powerful, in my opinion.
Although Xu Kai screen time again is limited, but Xu Kai's acting is superb end of Ep 31, the closer the camera gets to his face, the emotions explode. Camera can never get too close to his face even without makeup. He's resorted to desperate means which shows up in his expressions, but yet still maintains same calm demeanor. Normally Mei Zhuyu has less expressions but at this point, he's desperate.
