Beginning of ep 20 super close ups. Xu Kai’s micro-expressions are seriously impressive. The closer the camera gets, the more you see how nuanced and precise his performance is. His expressions aren’t forced—no exaggerated movements to signal emotion. Everything feels natural and realistic. In that trapped scene, you can feel the intensity just from his face.

So if it feels underwhelming to some, keep in mind: this is Mei Zhuyu.

For me, Xu Kai captures his character’s complex balance of quiet intensity and emotional restraint in a way that’s deeply affecting. I really enjoy this scene. This scene is very intense and deeply moving yet you can feel Mei Zhuyu's personality in it.

omg, you're right, RF is only 7.8 and that is an amazing production, great acting, one of xu kai's best performances. I think it used to be at least an 8 or low 8, and has declined every year, I've noticed that on MDL, Xu Kai’s dramas often receive higher scores during their initial release when viewership is highest. As fewer people watch in later years, the score inexplicably declines—even though the smaller number of new ratings shouldn’t outweigh the original majority. This suggests the declining scores are statistically illogicalL unless newer ratings are disproportionately weighted by giving extra weight to those newer, lower scores, but I doubt it works that way.
if I were brand new to MDL and Royal Feast was my first drama, and I saw 7.8, I would think 7.8 means it's a great drama.

I get it. Only if you think Xu Kai is not getting enough screen time, then you are a true fan. Because I was like Xu Kai will do great anyway, so I'm not a fan. Am I reading that right? That's ok. I get it why fans may feel so heated about the topic. But the drama is female centric, at least the novel, but I hold hope that second half of this drama, Mei Zhuyu will have more screen time. I actually think the drama is not as female centric as the novel. He can't really show his real powers until the story develops so once his identity is out there, and the plot is revealing itself, I should think he will get more screen time because there should be a clash between celestial masters and the demon world (my guess) and Mei Zhuyu will be at the center of it alongside Wu Zhen. I bet Mei Zhuyu will have at least one super emotional scene (I hope), His next two shorter dramas are male centric, hopefully he will dominate all the episodes.

I didn't compare BCE to this drama, I didn't say Oh BCE was so much better, I merely said take for example in BCE, the same was said of him and he came okay. Next time, I'll say, in another drama, I have tried to not compare dramas unless someone brings it up.

what I was trying to say is that wait until the drama is over and see his characters impact on the series, unlike the guy who gave a 4 rating because they said Xu Kai is a "complement" not even a main character which can't be farther from the truth, imo
