her story conveniently said that he asked her to stay after everyone left so you can't corroborate her story if there are no witnesses. she can only come up with "he said, she said" scenarios. that means she can make all kinds of accusations and get away with it because it cannot be proven. seriously, you put that much stock into ratings esp. MDL,which is the worst. . there are a lot of popular dramas even one that hit 10K heat on iQiyi or ones rated 8.5 or higher on MDL that is 5.5 to 5.8 on Douban. Xu Kai dramas ratings on Douban are pretty typical how other similar dramas performed, a few are above average (high 6 or low 7) but on MDL tend to not be typical compared to other dramas, and truly underrated. On Viki, his dramas are above avg to high, many are 9.5 even 9.6. You don't know his personal life what his priorities are, how can you judge what he should or should not do with his career?

I don't think the main plot is forbidden love because otherwise they would have focused less on the demon city and more on the love story between mei zhu and wu zhen, and they wouldn't get marry so soon by ep. 24. There are another 14 ep (orig. it was 40 ep series) after marriage. There must be a conflict between the celestial masters and the demon world that after they are marry, they will fight it together and it should uncover the mystery of what happened 18 yrs ago in the great fire that mei zhuyu parents perished and she became cat lord. however, there is still body swapping and pregnancy so not sure how they fit that in too. hopefully, they're done with the side characters backstories. I was hoping after the marriage things will turn sadistic momentarily because they should have trial after marriage, but again, if too much going on, how can they fit it all in.

What "messy personal life?" You could damage people's reputation with the suggestions. You say, "his exes are always pointing him out," if that were true, I'd be seeing it all over YT since YT is filled with nothing but harsh and negative marketing on xukai. They pick up on the smallest detail to amplify it. They outright lie too. One time they made an entire video just so at the end they included xu kia in the narrative to make his parents look bad, they even go after his parents.

I’m hoping 800 Meters Radius delivers more of this emotional intensity. It’s supposed to be a rollercoaster. Xu Kai even though he has less screen time, it doesn't matter, what scenes he has always makes an emotional impact on the story. But in his next two modern dramas, he should be in almost every episode I would think.
