it is based on an award winning novel but based on some comments I read, I think the drama story is very diffferent than the novel. There is no character Feng Hua in the novel according to what I read, There was an Italian traveler in the novel so I 'm guessing Si Yi is a link to him in the novel, The focus of the novel is different then the drama,

I feel Bai Lu bridged the mannerisms and spirit of the young Feng Hua and her own mother really well. You feel that little girl was her and she's definitely her mother's daughter.

thanks, I found old YT videos about her young life due to her parents work in the rain forests. She has tragedy in her personal life. I think her dad died when she was only around 8 years old. She has an interesting background.

When Wang He first met SiYi, he was smitten by her and wanted to hold her hands, but Feng Hua said to her stay away from WangHe, he's trouble and it's shameful, guys can't be holding girl's hands, so she led her away. I thought that might be foreshadowing.

Of course, Bai Lu is the main lead of this story. It starts out with Feng Hua telling the story and how SiYi will have a huge impact on all of them. I guess that is the mystery of the story, why and how.

I know for sure the two girls are the same age because when Feng Hua first met SiYi, she asked her and SiYi said she was ten and Feng Hua said, "So am I."

Vanda Margraf is a natural talent. I don't think she went to acting school either. She's a dancer, I think. Not bad for her debut. Because she's mix, her voice is different, it's nice.
