If HT approached her about merger, then she would have been calm about it. But it was the way she had to find out about it.

We can feel bad for both.

I actually felt HT in the novel was desperate too but more restraint. He even pushed his way into her room and wanted to get back together. The novel doesn't go into HT's feelings. The drama presents his feelings so the audience can connect with him. HT in the novel had to be quite miserable during the break up period.

Because in the novel, he does all the chasing and reconciliation. When she said she wants to break up, he locks the door and says no. Twice, he asked to get back together, and she said no. He even forced his way into her room and started to make out with her and she said no. Eventually, his words must have sunk in and she says she's willing to talk to him but then she got kidnap.

I don't think she left. Eventually, she comes back to the company in some capacity.

This drama showcases the business aspects very well. The merger, the loss of morale, etc.
JX was a very good people manager. She built a great team. She was a good leader. People will follow her if she leaves. Remember HT told Grandpa "She has merits I don't have."

HT made verbal promise to her that he would not mess with XingChen and let her run it. When he shook hands on that promise, he already knew Hanhai is under his control. Once Hanhai is made public, there is no way he can leave XingChen alone when the two companies have overlaps. Because he shook hands on that, I feel he did mislead her. She would never have agreed to cooperate with him if he messes with XingChen. That was the reason she turned down Han Yuan. However, she was also at a dead-end and couldn't get any financing. Like HT said, you have no capital.
HT is too ruthless. That's what scared JX away. When JX is confused or scared, she goes home where she feels safe.
I really believe that HT when he shook hands on that promise felt he would find a way to leave XingChen alone. But things didn't turn out the way he hoped. JX definition of love is that he can give up Dongyang for her. That's not how he sees love. I think Dongyang is as important to him as JX is.

Watching the meeting, it is rather sad that JX is no longer CEO of her own company, but such is the reality of startups. But in this merger, JX still has autonomy to develop whatever products she wants, basically no one can tell her what to do, and SZZ has his own technical department reporting to the President. Rather than management, JX can focus on R&D. Now, she has greater resources. Li Li rather than procurement, she is deputy director of Sales which is what she was doing before she joined XingChen and better use of her talent.

HT recalls before JX shook hands with him for cooperation, she specifically requested that he not bring in external teams in the future (leave XingChen alone) and that she will have sole control over internal personnel matters. HT never intended for the merger yet, at least he was holding out as long as he could and discuss potential merger with her in the future. But regardless, he'd have to tell her before Hanhai is made public. But he had no choice in the timing and his hand was forced. Since HT knew that Hanhai will have an impact on XingChen so I supposed in a way, he did break her trust in him. Even though he did not nothing wrong from business perspective, but he did it to the person who loves him.

Her personality trait is supposed to be impulsive. It just takes her more time to see things clearly.

Poor HT, New Year's Eve is always tough for him since he lost his parents, and now he lost JX too.

JX's things vanished before our eyes in the drama instead of her chaotic departure in the novel where HT said, "are you moving or demolishing the house?"

They did a great job of getting rid of unnecessary soap opera scenes although it loses some of the banter between them.

In the novel HT asked JT to get back together with him at least twice. One time, he couldn't stand it any longer, he even forced himself on her, but she said no. Of course, he's a gentleman and backed off. The HT in the novel is pretty obsessed with JX. It's just that he conducts himself with restraint.

I don't see it as he "waited for FL for 10 yrs" but he never forgot her either because she was special person. He was impressed by her vision to bring medical technology to remote areas because that was his passion too. If HT was obsessed with her, he can easily find her. She never returned his text, so he figured she's not interested in him. He really liked her, but he has big goals. He goes to college in Germany, pours all his time into his work, builds R&D center for Dongyang and makes long term plans for AI/Medical robot strategy. He never dated except he did hang out with his childhood friend Zeng Di who keeps showing up and forces herself on him. While in Germany, he saw stray cats who reminded him of JX and he always had regrets he never got together with her, but he never waited for her, didn't look for her nor expect he would ever see her again. As far as he was concern, she's in the past. But then one day, she shows up again in his life, and stirs up his feelings of the past. If he truly loved her back then, he wouldn't let a rejection hold him back, but he was resigned to never seeing her again. His way of remembering her was feeding stray cats to heal his regrets. He'd probably marry a blind date from his grandpa if JX never showed up again.

If the line is "sleeping with you", the momentary eye expression must be anger because in the novel, it said he was irritated; however, if it is "living with you", then it was expressing fear of losing her, and that was my impression.

It seems the drama changed the line and feeling because HT did not smile and not sarcastic when he said, "then you need to stay longer". I did not see irritation in his eyes when she said, "I've been living with you for so long". I think he thought she was insinuating "I've been living with you for too long", as if I'm not going to stay here anymore. I feel that line really scared HT for a moment he realized he could lose her, and that's what I saw in his eyes, which was only for a split second, so I had to rewatch a few times.

Novel:
JX smiled at him and said, "I've been sleeping with you for so long. Even though I haven't contributed much, I've still put in some effort. You're so generous, would you really hold it against me? This remark made Han Ting's face change with irritation. Han Ting remained silent for a moment, staring at her with deep eyes. After a while, he suddenly smiled and said, "It seems like you need to continue your job as my bed companion." (sarcastic)

Drama:
JX: I was living here for a long time and keeping you company. I deserve some reward, don't I?
(HT eyes intensified or deepened when she said that as if something suddenly overcame him). A generous man like you will not give me a hard time.
HT stared at her for a few seconds (there was no smile): You'll have to stay for a little longer. (the tone was not sarcastic but more of a relieve or hope).
