I always say 12ep dramas get less eps for 2 reasons, either the plot needed less time or the writers knew they can't drag it, and this falls in the 2nd category just like most 12epers..

the premise of it was fun, kinda like A Day, The Call and as some say Kairos (though I haven't seen that one), but that's the problem, the last 2 aired very very recently that it's not just similarities but plain old copy+paste

they started off too strong, for 4 eps, every time they changed the past the future changed, and with that they got new threats, but after 4 times one is like stop with the twists, so now from ep5 till 6 it became a boring political talk blah blah, it was so boring I didn't care anymore and their last twist is one of those "no one will see it coming" thing that's way too obvious......

I LOVED Lee Joo Young and the fact that she was a 1st main lead without her needing to be involved in a love line with the ML, but then it's so obvious she's taking back seat while the guy does everything cuz in her time line she can't do anything but investigate
and the fact that the 2 mains are never in the same space together kinda makes their team work flat.

the OST is nice and so is the acting but the writing is so empty I didn't even want to skip or fast forward cuz by the next time the plot is interesting it'd probably be the last ep

This kinda reminds me of a detective conan ep, they have a house full of "suspicious" people and everyone is trying to either hide their own petty crimes or stay silent in hopes that the killer will help them get all the inheritance. all the while the killer roams free because no one is actually trying to find them. and by no one I mean the cops...
I get when sometimes the main character needs to find the killer becasue the cops are incompetent, but here they just took out the cops becasue they want the household members to do the investigation alone ;/ the cops barely visited the crime scene ;/

they are only limited to the mansion set and they rarely go out so it is way too limited and the number of eps are short but still too long for this kind of setting and plot.

tbh if you take out all the petty suspects it's pretty clear who the killer is and it's funny when two 20 year old girls are the only ones doing the research. also isn't it illegal to release the circumstances of an ongoing crime to the public and let them help with the investigation?

anyway, again with the ep count it's obvious they knew they can't drag it for 16 or even 12 eps, but tbh they only needed 2

12 thirty min eps, sounds short but it was torture

I always say different people different taste but I don't get how they liked this mess.
The fl was cruel. Even worse than jerk mls. She was a tyrant. She manipulated the ml with her broken phone so he works for her. She didn't even let him take a break or go to the bathroom which is a human right. And she was "surprised" he was naive enough to not give up then worse only wanted him when she thought he likes her and made a sense when she again made up stories that he liked someone else. THEN claimed him just because she wanted someone to love her.....

The ml was also worse than naive fls. He allowed her when she controlled his breaks, even kids go to the bathroom if their teacher says no... it's basic nature. Then he finds out she lied to him. But he fell for her cuz what. She's poor cynical and hardworking? While he's rich spoiled and happy?.... and he was even happy with her marking him when she just said she selfishly didn't like him but the idea of him...

She also steals, she was upset and hyungmin taking mls shoes. Not because she cared for the ml but she thought she's the only one allowed to threatened people. Then she sells it and takes the half as if she has any right to that money. She should've atleast returned it to the ml. Just cuz she sells something doesn't mean she owns it...

Sam was the only cute person yet he was always mistreated even by the writers saying he's dumb. And minnie was the only normal person but she was also too clingy

The comedy was meh and the only good scenes were with that cute baby and puppy.
I thought this was short but after watching 6eps while playing on my phone I don't even want to see their romance. The random drug mystery or the fact that the ml is a rich American actress's son...

the hard life of pretty people..

basically the story revolved around girls hating girls because they were prettier or and the ugly girl that hanged out with them..
honestly every guy only looked at 3 girls, so they chased them and belittled other girls, then the remaining girls hated the "pretty" girls and the "ugly" friend becasue they were jealous..

their plot line literally revolved around 2 things that were repeated over and over again; 1-boys used girls to get the pretty girls (even their main lead!), 2- the not pretty girls got jealous and hated on each other for shallow reasons..

the friendship between the 2 mains was explained, after a loooong series of misunderstandings, but the other 2 girls just randomly stuck with them. it was like sure the other "not pretty" girls wanted to be their friends and use them so the pretty girls got "outcasted" by choice, but they too chose the other pretty girls becasue they knew they didn't want to use them since they were pretty too...
that's such a nonsensical logic...

even the misunderstanding around the 2 fls started by jealous 3rd parties... it's so hilarious. every girl was like "you're too ugly to be yuna's friend" and started hurting their friendship until both believed it too, instead of talking it out.

I'm most disappointed by the fact that this was written by "it's okay to be sensitive" and "When You Love Yourself". for a story about sismance it revolved alot on girls hating girls just becasue they're "pretty"...
atleast it wasn't romance centered, and 1 side romance was sweet and the other loser left.

though again the way that 1 good romance developed was because the girl got jealous cuz they guy was too friendly with a clingy girl... after chasing her and telling her he likes her, he goes and let a girl kiss him then he gets angry at the girl he likes ;/

anyway, shallow writing with basic "acting"

I'm dropping this just like how the producers dropped jisoo

1st story wise, tbh beside the FL I think the story was repetitive and the 20eps were pushing it. they kinda just took the usual backstory of the ML and made it the FL's story. SHE was the lost princess with the horrible dad king, there was nothing new, but it gave the FL a chance to be something more than the love interest.

and kim sohyun was the perfect choice I can't imagine someone else as her. but with that I also can't get over jisoo as Dal, I personally HATE actor changes and bellow this part I shall rant in peace so whoever is looking for a fight, or want to twist people's words then please don't read past this

I hate how some people say fans are stupid for being hurt over an actor they never met/that doesn't know they exist, but this is so like what happened in veronica mars s4.
I just loved the characters so much, and I loved the series then they went ahead and stabbed the fans and the other cast with their choices, they sabotaged the true core of veronica and they disregarded one of their most important actors' hard work just for the sake of "suspense" and most probably money..

here, they didn't drop jisoo becasue of his past deeds but they did it for the sake of the ratings and the money. and the rest of the fans of the other cast are so ready to show they never cared for jisoo or anyone beside their favs.
everyone is acting like everything is ok, as if one's hardwork is more than the other

I'm in no way defending jisoo's past actions, but if they really cared for the victim's, they should deal with this in a bigger scale.
you can't fight bullying with bullying and now jisoo is the target for so many people.
some say "deformation" is a huge crime in korea, but as a long time idol fan I've seen so many false rumors regarded as the truth just becasue they were posted online.
just one anonymous post on a shabby site like koreanboo can ruin people's reputation and even if the truth comes out no one cares.

and in turn the idol bullying scene is just as bad as the school bullying which just proves the whole system needs to change. bullying should be a crime with consequences.. and that includes cyber bullying that targets the celebrities.

people need to pay a price and try to work on themselves. I've seen so many ugly things thrown at jisoo, even the actress Park Hye Soo addressed how easily her past got twisted and the ones who bullied her are now back to play the victims.
it's not always the case, I'm not disregarding victims but spreading non proven facts doesn't make it real or ok to share..

anyway, ep7 aired and the 1st thing people care about is rating or how their own favs are doing, so I can't take this double standard bias... they made jisoo the villain that ruined the staffs hard work and now they're working for free

I'm really sad over this, I love both jisoo and sohyun as actors and this was a dream casting for me. no matter what, jisoo has worked hard on his career, he always got side tracked or ended in low projects that this was his big break. and I can't see anyone else pull of Dal like him.
and I'm not hating on the other actor... and I watched part of ep7 but I just can't. it's such a huge difference...
they should've killed him off, I HATE actor changes it just takes away from the character, I even hate anime voice actor changes. it feels unnatural.
and they could've brought the new actor as a new character who is a general in the palace. there could've been so many better solution.
but mostly I wish this was preproduced. as a fan of the characters and the art form my feelings are valid

I hope no one comes at this and attacks me for whatever reason they want to twist this into. be kind and let me vent my valid sadness in peace ;D

I really loved kim sohyun in this, I'll forever keep her as one of my favorite female characters and maybe once things are cleared out and sorted I'll come back and watch this with a lighter heart

if someone wants to starts this, or they still didn't finish it, then I highly recommend the 36 episode vr.. basically this went through 3 stages,
the overly cliche mean girl/nice guy light romcom = 7
the middle part that should've been the ending which was around ep20? = 10
and the last draggy part, literally the last 8 eps were the same = 1 but since there is a cut vr I won't count this
the end = 7?
so I guess that rounds it all to 8? 7.5? ;)
it didn't need 20 (40)eps, it would been perfect if it ended by ep 16 (32)...

my rewatch values are either a 1 or a 10...

ok I think my short interpretation of this would be a modern 21st century love story that is still stuck in a cliche mold?
their relationship/chemistry feels natural and they dealt with the fan thing as best as they could (the best thing would've been no fan-to-lovers, but oh well)

the families are booorring and unfitting, I do not care for them one bit.

and I don't really care for the male friendship, even the bromance feels flat.. I don't get why or how they are friends, they just feel like 3 people that are in the same space. also the fact that they didn't give the fl any sort of friendship or family is alarming ;/

so the worst point of this is the super duper cliche arc they used for the fl! the drunk pity party that makes the guy fall for her weak "cute" side, the "it's all my fault everyone hates me!", the "I've never dated before becasue I am a sad unworthy person", the fact that she bickers back with everyone and then suddenly becomes docile is just bad writing...
in ep2 she was answering back to every criticism her boss told her as if they were friends and now she's the weak silent victim to the crazy boss who's randomly out to get her ;/
and then the ml is being possessive already? "don't drink with other me becasue you look cute".. you don't own her ;/

the worst sign is when I skip an ep and I don't feel like I missed anything, I didn't realize I didn't watch ep3 until ep4 was over and I was looking for the next ep xD
I personally have a rule, I give dramas 1/4 a chance and if I don't like them I drop

+ I liked the girls, I mean this could be considered a female centered plot though the evil guys were practically a village
+ the dream vs reality was a cool concept
+ the last ending scene was interesting

- the mystery crime was lacking, ALOT
- the evil guys felt like random people they found on an island, and tbh fey's dad's face gives me nightmares ;D
- lack of romance (though it didn't need it as aya said) but her and cop guy would've been a cute couple
- everyone was either raped or committed suicide ;/

as a mystery genre it felt lacking, and the quality seems like a 2012 production with the cheap filming and aesthetics

double wrist grabs in 2020? how unoriginal

edit: I read some of the spoilers from ep10 and my 1st prediction after ep1 was right, so that means the story was built on 1 plot move and 1000 misunderstandings and miscommunication ;D ie a waste of time ;)

the fl stands up for herself and she even called Dae Oh as a loser so they acknowledge his annoying side, but the wrist grabs drive me crazy especially the double wrist grab at the end ;/

they are not bickering, they are purposely hitting below the belt?. they might now be doing it becasue both are hurt and once the misunderstanding goes away they'll be all lovey dovey, but at the end of the day they chose to say/think those words....

my theory (not a spoiler) is that Dae Oh is the dad, self centered actor liked her too so he never cleared their misunderstandings if not add more fuel to the fire. she saw Dae Oh with another woman and she went to self centered actor ie the rain scene, and teacher dude loved her so much that he wanted to "take responsibility" for her and his mom hated that he was going to raise another man's kid so she bribed/hurt ae jung and told her to leave. I don't know how gangster dude is related, but add the actress and we'll get 10 more eps of misunderstandings and venomous fights ;/

it really can't be any other guy because 1- she was happy to see actor guy, 2- she didn't remember teacher dude 3- she didn't even know gangster guy. and 4- she hated seeing dae oh again. and the grandma did say "he's dead to her" so I mean you won't not remember the person you hate/love

the story is very very simple. this was better as a binge, tbh I don't think I'd have given it a chance higher than the 1st four eps and I'd have dropped it if I watched it as it aired, but it was also not as engaging as I'd have hoped. it got better by eps4-6 but as soon as it got it's footing it was so obvious how their "big picture" was going to turn out that I lost interest in the plot.

the side plots were related to the big picture, each case reflected Wol Joo's own situation and concerns but they were somewhat really flat, idk, it was hard to connect to the side stories? though the messages were great and really inspirational, but they just felt too fleeting?

I know, I might be complaining too much so one would wonder why the high rating, but something the review ratings doesn't cover is the characters, their relationships and their depths.
the 3 mains had a really sweet chemistry and I highly enjoyed their bickering and "grudge" fights and I wished they'd have tried to make them a little more active outside the pop up bar, I know that was their home base but I wanted more action (and I don't mean fighting)
and even though their family bond was sweet I kinda wish they weren't related and just found comfort in each other regardless of the destiny makjang move "he's your long lost son/love" ;D

the best part for me was Kang Yeo Rin who's going to join my favorite female characters list, she was refreshing, independent, smart and always made the 1st move ❤ and I loved their chemistry, Kang Bae truly deserves the "sweet male lead" tag though I wish they focused more on them ;)

which makes me wonder, are romances better in non romance dramas because they focus on them less, so the "chase" is longer and there's no space for misunderstandings and inevitable breakups?

HWJ was slightly as overreacting as ever, but since this was a comedy it kinda fit the vibes well and I wish she'd act in another drama with Choi Won Young minus the long lost lovers theme ;D I want a pure secret like makjang

the OSTs were nice enough and I never rewatch stuff

the movie felt like 4 different movies;
the 1st was the meeting of two teens, the princess and the bad boy who was rough around the edges. this might be where the good girl/bad guy complex came about. they had zero chemistry and she was way too good for him..

the 2nd, was the marriage and loveydoveyness, tbh I thought it was weird how they got married so soon in the movie but they had a lot of built up angst coming their way. they were like a different couple. he got a job and lost his carefree bad boy puberty rebelling phase.

the 3rd part was when they revealed she was sick. and this is when it started to lose points. first of we had the crazy scientist guy who told her everything so bluntly. a professional doctor who personally experienced that should ask for her to bring a family member with them for that kind of earth shattering news ;/
also, forgiveness doesn't cost money.. you should never pay your life savings "to forgive" someone, it should be the opposite if anything... and just becasue she was his mom doesn't mean he needs to put up with her bs ;/

the 4th part started when they added that stupid dramatic scene... a guy who knows his wife has alzheimer sees the door open and she's just standing with a guy so what does he do? go punch the heck out of the guy! why?! the heck?! the guy didn't even do anything, he was confused and didn't react....
like why? why just why.. I was going to give it a 8+ but that was the most ridiculous scene ever. did he think he was going to hurt her? did he think they were cheating? there were no signs, non of that explains why he beat that guy so much ;/
and then the dad goes "we will take her"... what does "through sickness and health mean".. he was willing to stay by her side. just bring in a live in nurse or something but no, she remembered everything and left him while he spent weeks(?) looking for her thinking she might be dead in a ditch ;/

and that binges me to my last point, they were really bad at explaining/showing the passage of time. beside Chul Soo ditching his ragged clothes, they looked the exact same throughout all those phases. how long did this all take? was she always 27 and him, 30ish? becasue his 1st appearance was of someone in his early 20s struggling through life.. and their last appearance was of someone in their 20s losing all of her memories and acting as if she was drunk..

and I hated the ending.. so why did she leave if they reunited and drove towards the sunset? just horrible writing ;/

I like and respect all of the actors, but the plot was just horrible. in the 1st movie, the main guy's brother is killed and he's framed for it.
here, they took revenge for this guy that "raised" the ml, but so brutally and just to teach him go.... I mean, it is a traditional game, but if you switch it to chess, it'd still be as pointless. sure they played several Saw like Go games, but everything happened just for the sake of the plot.
it's like, if it was a sport like karate or taekwondo, it'd have some action and suspense, beside the whole backstory of the sister felt like a cheap move to add to the "revenge"

Loner had a more solid reason for revenge, his dad was murdered and he got severely hurt by evil guy that raised the ml... but his story was just used as a time filler..
it's funny how a 1 hour 45min movie felt like a 5 hour one.. also this is the type of movies I hate, they add creepy and gore as a way to be edgy but it just looks silly

the acting was great of course, and I never rewatch things

I usually don't enjoy medical dramas, and since this is a 2016 production I want to cut it some slack.

I enjoyed the small side stories more, and I wish the "extra" ep actually happened in the middle so they could've used that to shake things up instead of the ceo's story.

I really hated the back story for Yoon Seo Jung. the drama started off with her as a confident strong sunbae, but they just had to add a trauma to make her weak and "interesting/open to development".. I also loved Yoon Seo Jung and Kang Dong Joo as a couple I think they were closest to a "mature" couple as dramas could get, but again that 1 random traumatic event kept them away for so long ;/

I also think their overall "big plots" were really weak. like the heart ceo's story and big fight around him was boring, and Do Yoon Wan's character existed just so they had "conflict".

my rewatch values are a 1 or 10 so ;)

Tbh I didn't really read the synopsis. Comedy detective shows are always the same, no one likes the main team, main team tries to catch a bad guy and get recognition, team gets in unfortunate circumstances, team gets bad guys..

But here the "unfortunate event" was going undercover as chicken restaurant owners! And their restaurant gets famous xD
That part was refreshing usually they go undercover as bad guys and become bad guys and blah blah...
The chicken part did get draggy but it was interesting to see how everything got to the last point...
And that last confrontation did have alot of noce actions scenes to wrap things up nicely..

I loved the team, each one had their own flavor and they really carried the show. Plus the comedy is exactly my style~

My rewatch value is either a 1 or a 10 and this was fun enough for a rewatch

my favorite characters were Seo Young Joo (a total srs), Lee Ki Chan (student), Park Seung Man (teacher) and Shin Kang Hoon (detective), also Choi Ji Kyung (reporter).. it's easier to fight for your cause then to fight for someone else's?
the overall plot though was really basic, the same old story told the exact same way with slight drag and a small twist? and things seemed to "wrap" up fast after all of that fighting..
+ the raw emotions, I'm a sucker for a sob story and this made me tear up alot..
+ the characters and the acting
- it needed less episodes, maybe 6?
