This drama got better by each ep. That doesn't mean it started as a 10/10 and became a 20/10.
It literally started at point zero. They went through all the revenge setup cliches that it was agonizing to watch, BUT it improved alot as it went by.

My favorite part was Yi Seo. I'd not have watched this if it weren't for her and I'd have totally missed this cliche yet rare gem. she was everything, strong, independent, she stood up for herself, she had alot of aegyo and though she was not "perfect" she did grow and improve as time went by (also she could easily kill someone and get away with it xD)
But the 2nd fl had her own charms too. They were both like parallel opposites. One was driven, and one took things slow, a little too slow :)

SRY is actually my 2nd least favorite male lead type (the 1st is of course the jerk).
He was naive. Stubborn. 1 minded. Driven by revenge. a little hard headed like a rock, BUT he didn't let that ruin or control his life, tbh this might be the most rational revenge plot ever xD
His stubbornness and 1 mindedness was also his charming point. He saw the good in people and he gave them a chance without being fickle about it. He didn't let others sway him but he did listen to the voice of reason.
This was not a romance drama nor was it a love triangle.
Sure they had a love line, and the usual 2 fls and 3 mls (ie the double triangle), but there was no rivalry. No hate. No angst. No one fought for attention, everything just happened naturally and -a little too- slowly xD.

I wonder which points were made by the drama writers and which parts where done by the webtoon writer. The development of the plot seems like a kdrama move while the well layered characters feel like a webtoon move :)
this was not plot driven or character driven, but the characters saved this from becoming another useless drama..

the ost here was gold, Lee Chan Sol, Gaho, Ha Hyeon Woo, SONDIA, Kim Woo Sung, Kim Feel and the others all set a great mood throughout the drama~

I don't rewatch dramas so it's always either a 1 or 10 :)

for me the only good parts were these:
jiho's personality. it's so rare to have a shy ml in dramaland. tho they did treat him like a freak, it's like the dude didn't like what "insa" people liked, but was he a psycho? no..
he just didn't like attention, or crowds, or fake social behavior to please other people. he was not "traumitized". sure he had a bad past but not every "social slowness" is a faulty personality
and yes, by now you've guessed it right, it's personal xD I'm shy, socially awkward, and slow with the fun hangs, but I'm not an idiot with a rock head.
as a kid I did say no alot, and in uni I changed it to a "hmm yeah". because I didn't really wanna do it but I also didn't not want to do it

here, especially with the drinking, or the wedding preps at the end, jiho didn't "like it", maybe he is stuck in my no phase but sangeun wasn't really considerate, she wasn't pushing him out of his shell she kept dragging him out then kinda making fun of him, "teaching" him he should "be like other people"..
so I personally didn't think they matched. like again the wedding prep, he was ready to put himself through the struggle cuz she said she wanted a big wedding, and she didn't listen when he said he didn't want it big. then she goes and says she was doing it for him

anyway, atleast with jiho his shyness and lack of social personalty didn't come with low self esteem, doubt, self consciousness and ready to escape
no drama can survive that way so all of those traits went to saguen ;D
I'm glad he always said he'll never misunderstand her and he'll wait for her pov before making a judgment, that's 1000000 lvl male lead behavior~ also he was never shy or reluctant in showing intimacy which is another +A move

gwangnamah was a sweeite, it's nice to have male characters without ulterior or obsessive behavior towards the fl, most fl "brother zoned" end up with a secret 10 year crush
he was a good person, had his own life, worries and dreams, he could easily get a spinoff where he finds happiness, love and acceptance

another point I liked was the past childhood connection, and the ones that did have them ended in divorce or one sided crush which heavily highlights how a person is different from what one projects on them

I did however dislike the 5 year "eating mate" with 0 attempts at conversation and honestly the whole drama was flat with zero substance, I'd have tbh preferred them preparing for a wedding, looking more at "what people do to please others who think one should do that" while trying to navigate happiness and marriage. I also wanted a scene with a baby to show he's not afraid to show affection and she also adored her baby and stuff life that

anyway, I only started it for a mom watch, and stayed for her + jiho and tbh the last like 40mins were my favorite part of this drama xD

Disgusting, I'm not even talking about the blood

right from the moment the movie starts, even before a scene comes up, they start with the most disgusting chewing sound and it keeps happening all through the 40min I watched.. they keep chewing and slurping so loud while talking I just couldn't take it anymore...
I never got the reason why audio directors choose to do such an uncultured move, it adds nothing to the plot beside showing how disgusting those characters are.. gangs have no manners fine but spare my poor ears...

talking about the plot is was nothing special. non of the reviews make sense but atleast the ratings reflect better. they had nothing but gangsters nagging and being disgusting while the ML and FL brooded over stuff.
it's ironic, I've seen many movies with blood and gore but maybe as I grow up I realize I don't need to to force myself through something added just to look edgy

many movies dealt with it better, they added blood well enough without it being thrown everywhere

now for the only good points, the acting was great on both leads, they had great charisma, sadness with a touch of naiveness from the ML, but I'm assuming he'll avenge the people who killed his sister and niece, and the FL joins him and alot of random shootings will happen, then the evil guy will turn out to be his boss or whatever...
the lighting was also nice but that was it..

it should've been Captain Jang focused

this was like a westernized korean movie, or a koreanized western movie?
the cast was so "diverse" that the only koreans were the 5 mains with 2 "guest roles" and so it felt like the mixed A listers with C listers and they lost alot of substance by casting "basic" foreigners.
though in some ways I did appreciate the "inclusivity", man I wish I knew/tried to audition as Pierre or the cop Kim Taeri threatened ;D

Storywise it was pretty basic too, they went with the -cheap- easy way out and chose a really simple "heartwarming" approach by adding a kid and tbh I am a sucker for adorable babies that need protection which leads to familymance, but the backstory for Tae Ho really ruined it.
I don't know how they tried to make him seem like a hero when he was a horrible person.
he used to kill people for UTS until he met the baby he adopted but he lost all of his money and statues and he turned into a drunken gambler. he even mistreated his daughter to the point he pushed her away to her death. (and before that he took her with him to his gambling business) and from that I really didn't care for him anymore and his affection for
Kot Nim seemed like a cheap attempted to redo his lost "dadness"

now for the good:
uncle tiger was the real hero and "unexpected" sweety. honestly between him and taeoh, he was enough.

Captain Jang was EVERYTHING! not just because I love kim taeri but again she was another "element" they tried to replicate in taeoh which was the "cold" doesn't give a sh*t but is secretly a soft UWU and a dangerous killer they needed.
I so so so wish the "main" storyline was about her! they robbed us of a great backstory and the best "momance"! like why did she try to kill UTS's boss? how did it really work out? who was she working with? there was so many unanswered questions ;(

Bubs was a cutie and again what was her relationship with captain jang? cuz when bubs was dying captain jang tried really hard to save her and the end face was a dream "casting ship" between kim taeri and Kim Hyang Gi whom I think really look alike (which again goes back to what was their relationship, why did they "look" like sisters)

Kot Nim was an unexpected surprise for me, I really didn't know what the main plot was about until I watched it xD but as soon as I did I knew EVERYTHING that was going to happen and that's how shallow it was

I watched this with my mom as it aired, so since I knew nothing I theorized with her and I really said dorothy is the reason Mars is green and UTS lied that she's a bomb and wants to destroy her so earth isn't revived. and that was literally it... that was all clear as soon as she showed up in their ship, though their 1st meeting was funny and cute it was too obvious..

no need to talk about the great cinematography or the CGI, it was obviously amazing and way better than american movies. and the plot too tbh was better than the avengers so I don't want to be too critical about the shallowness of the plot ;)

and actually a rewatch is a must cuz one can focus more on captain jang ;)

now I'll miss this ;)
the good:
+ the teammance (this is what I always want, a big unique team)
+++ Kim Nam Gil
++ the comedy sense
+ Park Kyung Sun (I'd have preferred it if she joined the team faster, but I like the freshness of her, she's like a girl vr of siwon?)
+ hip hop girl and her normal non obsessive crush (I kinda shipped her with Ssongsag)
+ the action scenes
+ the costumes xD

things I didn't like:
- the story
- the small plots
- the pace (things started really moving by the 2nd half, especially after ep14)
- the bad guys (I really couldn't careless about them they were slightly too weak)
- the bad guys screentime was a waste of time ;)

ps. my rewatch value is either a 1 or a 10

so slow so pointless

is this the result of "fangirls only care for the male lead so the fl is ignored as a human"?
she's so obsessed with him, she's practically a saesang. she idolizes him so much but worse she belittles herself more. "he's too good for me", "there's no way he would like a lowly person like me", "he's a star that I dared to sit next to" like girl chiiillllll

in skip beat, Kyoko idolizes Ren as an actor not as a person, and when she thinks "how dare I like him" it's becasue she has issues with love in general. she didn't want it to change her so she was more reluctant to like him.

here, this is just a mess done for fangirls. your oppa is hot and everyone love him.. I mean yes, my oppa is hot, jun was the best part, after he started to chill and show his cute side that is.

again, who even stans a cold jerk? I personally like my idols because they're humble, sweet, sometimes awkward and dorky, on the screen of course, they might be calm and chill with their friends, but in front of the camera and worse in front of the staff they all need to show their "respectful" side

there was an older idol maybe from suju that said if you don't greet the staff with kindness you won't make it long in the industry

but in dramas they always like to show idols as jerks, and worse the 2nd fls are obsessed with a guy that clearly is not interested. girl you deserve better!!!

ALSO, THE WORST part, the car accident.. she was just STANDING there, she was not in danger, she was not kissing someone else, she was just there, what a dramatic waste of time.. then her overreaction in the hospital, like again girl chill

the only things I liked were jun's smiles, the 2 members who supported him and Ri Ah's potential love interest Jae Woo (?). atleast that girl knows self worth and she cares about her dream, plus the guy is sweet from the start and he's cutely awkward when he's trying to show interest

and that's the button line, a guy mistreating you, yelling at you and judge you "for your own good" is not a love interest, that's the horrible misconception of idolized male leads and the hallyu wave..

ghosts/demons/zombies? they have NOTHING on this! serial killers? they are a laughing stock! this was so scary, so heartbreaking, so DEVASTATING!

I watched this after seeing my mdl friends' reaction and I was not disappointed, but I do regret this so much. will this change anything? or will people label it as a dramatic "entertainment" and move on?

I thought what would be the worse that could happen? Joon Ho dying? Han Ho Yul, the sweet little breath of fresh air in dramaland character? but no, it was much much worse, even if I thought Seok Bong dying would be horrible that scene! that extra ending scene?! the writer/director is CRUEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

having my own mental struggles with life this did not help and I had to take a break but I made the mistake of going back and now I'm forever scared!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
after a while until around ep4 I thought the ending of ep1 was the worst one, that character who's name I can't even remember, sitting sadly regretting his choice but not finding another escape. that was heartbreaking but THAT ENDING SCENE! MY HEART BROKE
eps 5 and 6, agh those two eps were so cruel. bullying was heartbreaking and disgusting but to break a sweet gentle soul like that? to break all of those sweet innocent people? FOR WHAT! WHY! why were they like that? tradition? it gets passed over? WHY!

bullying "less sever" than what happened there is still heartbreaking. removing someone's smile is heartbreaking, like if there's someone who's excited about the silliest thing and yet they want to share that with you and you go "that's your hobby? so silly/childish" and it ruins that person's happiness and that's HEARTBREAKING yet that's so "simple"
but to go and physically and mentally abuse people?WHY, why isn't it a crime! murder, thievery, BULLYING fits in those categories!

on a less dramatic side, the ost was so my style but dang it did not fit the heartbreaking mood, like I would listen to those songs if I didn't know about this drama

better off as a binge

cookie (I mean Kook Hee) as a male lead was amazing, he was sweet, UWU, adorable smile, six pack, considerate and charming and the fl was normal enough with her own career and life

now everything else was horrible, there was no plot, no real planning, no development, just a bunch of random events thrown together, and worse by the end all of the plots were resolved as if nothing happened..

2nd fl's boyfriend issues and 3rd fl's husband problems all sounded so big but by the end they just brushed it off and everything was fine again ;/

cookie was a sweet guy but his traumatic past was a cheap move for conflict, just as cheap as their final breakup ;/ eventhough this wasn't like the usual 16 ep dramas where the breakup lasts from ep12-14, here everything lasted for 5mins...

basically just another romcom in a pile of romcom cliches, but the ml is actually worthy rather than the usual rich jerks ;D

plotwise it was really basic and nothing special but the acting, specifically Seo Ye Ji's, was AMAZING! the gore and the horror part were disgusting and even slightly funny/comical, but the fear coming out of SYJ's performance was incredible ;)

now the ending made me confused, did nothing really happen? her scars disappeared and that kinda makes it interesting, like she didn't go through everything just to make a movie (which I found ridiculous, writers/directors don't need to experience something to be able to covey real emotions, that's not how movie making works otherwise we'd be in an entertainmentless world full of psychopaths xD)
so that means she lived it -ie what we saw- while she made it up because she was so invested in the story, but her eyes flickering, did that mean she was possessed by the ghost? how much of it was real and how much wasn't?

the ost wasn't much and I never rewatch stuff

for one thing it was hard to relate/connect/root for any of the female characters, or even the guys tbh. it was not just that they are "gray", but all of them were either selfish or judgmental..

I liked Do Hwa Young and Han Jung Won the most, but one was fooled into cheating and the other cheated with her teacher, and they even threw in some hints of crush from his son's side so everything was just a mess..

Jang Se Yun acted all high and mighty and calm but she's the type one should fear. the moment someone does something she doesn't like she gives them a condescending silent treatment? and I actually don't know if Sang Hoon killed saloon lady or not? and if not then 1- who did? and 2- the way Jang Se Yun treated him and doubted him is exactly what I hated about Jang Se Yun.
but to her defense the writers loved to make everyone looks suspicious that even Sang Hoon and Min Gyu seemed crazy. though after showing that Dong Seok was the one messing with his wife it just makes me wonder why the writers tried to make Min Gyu act obsessive?
also, if Sang Hoon didn't kill saloon lady then he as well should've been acting so shady..

Jung Won was the worse. she cheated on her husband and the acted as if he was to blame, and just becasue her husband cheated first didn't justify her though she didn't even know that. and most of the time she acted as if she was better than her friends and that everyone was out to get her/make her do things for themselves. and though she did do those things, it kinda made her seem self centered..

anyway, now on to the crime/mystery! it was a huge mess xD at 1st I thought their crime happened in the past but knowing that it was the future was a good move..
on the other hand, the other mysteries mostly had nothing to do with each other but they made them seem as if they were connected..

so, the teacher Eun Soo cheated with was killed by Chang Hyun's mom becasue she thought he was the lover of her daughter in law who Chang Hyun was "accused" of killing, and Eun Soo killed up after her to hid her own cheating, then the teacher's son came into the picture and Eun Soo wanted to redeem herself.
but it turns out Dong Seok was the lover but he had nothing to do with either murders? and then Chang Hyun was killed by who? I don't know.. but then Sang Hoon tried to blame Young Dae to bring him out of hiding, and well that was the only "reason" to have so many murders connected with each other..

Young Dae was a crazy mess, but! that ending! I was wondering this since ep6. if they showed Young Dae's body missing and then found somewhere else, then why the heck did the 4 fls still tried to hide his body? I knew from then it meant whatever they did didn't kill him and that there was another murderer, so why?
he was coming out of the water and he had more blood on him. they could've ended it there. and they all seemed to forget Jung Shim was around..
anyway, I also feel cheated that Sang Hoon was alive. all throughout the drama (especially after they showed he was innocent) I hoped he was alive. but for them to make us think he was dead until the last scene was a cheap move. I wondered how his daughter and Jung Shim were running around if one's dad died and the other's mom was a killer, so I mean I'm glad he didn't die but still..

the female centeredness and the fact that it was a "mystery" and short was the only thing working for it..

the ost was nice, it had elaine~ and I never rewatch stuff...

my favorite characters were Kyung Po, Don Hyuk, Jung Hee and Park Choong Jae. the acting overall was nice, but the main characters felt flat.
also, the romance was unnecessary for the 2 mains and Kyung Po (honestly he deserved better), he was the one who befriended the "ninja" no one saw, but still they did not appreciated him and made shallow remarks about his looks.
also, since they were "young and naive" I'd say the flat romance could be overlooked, but it'd have been better as just "unexpected friendships".

the plot about friendship and youth was solid, but the delivery was lacking. tbh even though it's only 4 one hour eps, it felt too long and I found myself playing at my phone most of the time.

and basically the mystery part was exactly what it looked like in the 1st ep, so they wasted alot of time "trying to find the truth".
the ost was nice and I never rewatch things ;p

it was nice that they give most of the students a backstory, though I felt like they were weak.. but the overall performance, plus that last message were really perfect...
I especially liked the "realness" of how the students reacted and the psychological aspects, they didn't just hate or like him, they had real raw emotions? their anger and desperation were so amazing, I don't think I've seen anything like that in dramaworld...

I keep changing the rating between 9 and 9.5, if I rate the overall process and plot it'd be 8, but then if it was just the last ep, and those emotions I'd rate it a 10..

my rewatch values are either a 1 or a 10 ;)

there are 2 types of dramas, character driven and plot driven, and this was neither..
the characters were not "strong" enough, they didn't have that much personality outside their plots.. beside that early dart scene and the fact that nana was strong willed against her male coworkers, they didn't give her enough... depth? same thing with Jang Ki Yong or the other characters, there was always something missing...
and the main plot was so overused that it was not enough to carry this show, the only thing that did was the fact that
Soo Hyun was a hitman...

+ nana proved herself as a competent actor
+ nana's beauty, I did consider her pretty before this drama, but there's something extremely beautiful about someone acting so well, or singing and other jobs, as long as they try hard, you know? ;)
+ Jang Ki Yong was made for this role, his eyes were everything
+ the filming was well done, everything looked pretty and high quality
+ really nice action scenes, nana's fighting scenes were the best ;)
+ ep12, I think that's the only good ep...
- it was reeaaaalllllly draggy, I mean like they only needed 2 to 4 eps max.. that's the problem with 12 eps drama, it's like the production team didn't think the plot's worth 16 eps, but they still want to drag it out...
- I skipped alot, to the point that I didn't even care for the 2 main leads parts, but I still got everything thanks to ep12 ;)
- a drama that focuses more on the old villains talking is always a horrible, I don't even know what they are talking about for that long.....
- I feel like the start and the characters relationships were rushed because they were worried 12 eps won't be enough for character growth... so that means bad time management?
- horrible weak repetitive plot. no mystery and not much thriller (I'd have given the story a 1 if it weren't for Soo Hyun's "job")

Best of 2023

This year, lol I wont say many and pretend to be an MDL influencer, but this year my friends feeds and a few drama pages must’ve seen my bitter nagging Nancy complaining about the excessive use of the “wash, rinse and repeat” plot lines

Creativity is dead, many shows just depend on the cast name and come up with ridiculously overused plot moves in the same exact formula and order
But enough with nagging Nancy and let me say how this was different

For one, a calm elegant and truly smart and strong fl, that got to those characteristics by actual growth and steps
Second would be park gyu young, her poise, her charisma and her look truly made me believe she’d be a top M worthy influencer
Third would be the well use of cliches:
-poor fl/ rich ml; but ml wasn’t doing the thinking and problem solving for the fl
- not evil 2fl, an anti cliche that was HIGHLY welcomed. Tho they sure did play with our hearts and kept us guessing till the end by,
- 2fl is ml ex, the cliche that usually leads to said 2fl being basically crazy
- friend that feels jealous made sense well
- crazy jealous rich x btches, again they were a good bunch, typical but entertaining dad
There are probably others anyone can add :)

Then the twists, I thought they were spoon feeding us the plot into the same old endings
Ml died, fl was “murdered” by the rich btches if not 2fl and her psycho husband and the nation crying and completely forgetting their own involvement in making such a scary world

One other thing I liked was how everyone had a husband tho I must say that is the makjang way, usually romcoms would only have one friend that “lost to the pressure” and gave up on the single life xD

Bbbfamous, such a sad existence… idk how I feel about it tbh, sure ppl vent out their own mental struggles on others but are all depressed ppl who are envious and tired of the social pyramid should be considered evil?
Maybe cuz fl’s bff was the anti who was tired of living in the shadow and never seeing fame, was enough so bbbfamous had to have a different bg, tbh I’m atleast glad she was a “fake facade” rather than completely just “ugly/dirty”…
Ppl might think ah, so antis and haters are like that, crazy. But we only write support based on events so technically we’re not being antis
Like a scandal coming and everyone becoming keyboard warriors without fully knowing the truth but always carrying that info as the ultimate truth….

Anyway the last two eps went heavy on the twists and they sure did a mission impossible tho again it was a clever way to keep up with the modern times

Now for the deaths and drug, I mean it could be true but if it didn’t exist, how would’ve they continued? Basically it feels like a cheat sheet but atleast they used it once

Ari as a whole, was grey, but that’s the moral, is it worth it.. as someone who made a kdrama fan account on insta and TikTok, I did experience a few things that overall did make me believe the things happened were realistic
Using others to gain followers, buying followers, insta and TikTok having their own algorithm and hidden agendas on who and what gets viral, all are such stressful things honestly even scrolling through insta becomes suffocating when everyone is desperately screaming “look at me”. Thankfully I just edit drama clips so I don’t have to participate in that rat race sometimes I get 700k view’s sometimes I get 7 xD

A 10 in 2023 dramas standards

*Entertainment: 8/10, in a slumpy(iPhone says skimpy) mood yet I didn’t look away too often
*Cast: 10/10, I especially loved how big actors played minor roles, most of those dudes can hold a 1ml role on their own easily
*Characters: 9/10, I didn’t like how easy they connected in one form or another, found each other or were long term enemies
But I also appreciated actors like siwon playing a “bad” person and joonho ahjussi playing a “nice guy” when both usually do the opposite
WDH; 1000/10, sad, happy, puppy face, strong, dark, pure hearted, every single emotion was conveyed beautifully. I do see my WDH as more of a serious if not even villainous persona but my precious convoys uwu well maybe he even got casted cuz of tkem and his adorable jo character
Gunwoo: 10/10 my precious he was sweet yet didn’t reach the pushover airheaded stage, he was sincere and had a heart of gold
LYS: 9.5/10 , he surprised me idk if I’ve seen him before but he certainly was different from his actual personality in I live alone. Tho I still can’t believe he’s just 1 year older than WDH?
Bromance: 10/10, I was kind of worried woojin would go rouge but???
Soran: 4/10 tbh I actually didn’t vibe with her interpretation of the character, if that was hyunjoo’s webtoon personality she was miscasted, I’d imagine someone a bit rougher and still more playful tho saeron pull of emotion sadness well
Damon: 8/10 I was surprised by the actress cuz I didn’t recognize her, tho she also gave me IU vibes so it hit me in the feels well??
Plot: 7/10 it was sloppy sometimes as I said before it felt like a comic strip that didn’t translate well in a fast paced drama
Ending: 8/10, too picture perfect
Overall; eh I’ll be biased and say a 10 in 2023 dramas standards
