I think about this series from time to time, my all time fav bl. I wish there were more series like this (I need…
What about this series draws you in? The Eighth Sense has a push-and-pull dynamic, A Tale of Thousand Stars has an excellent slow burn, The Best Story has realistic stakes, A Time of Fever has childhood acquaintances with massive unresolved sexual tension, Kinnporshe and My Stand-In have the same cinematographer... My Only 12% matches most of ITSAY's elements in many ways, but the overall tone is completely different. Meanwhile, Moonlight Chicken has a more similar tone despite primarily focusing on grown-ups. YMMV.
happy ending? I am contemplating whether to watch this or your name engraved herein but i discovered the latter…
I consider the end of I Told Sunset About You to be a happy ending, but I don't consider the end of the franchise as a whole to be unequivocally happy. I Promised You The Moon is fantastic but it is a very hard watch--so hard, in fact, that it makes ITSAY feel tension-free. It's worth watching once, but I don't think I'm strong enough to rewatch.
I appreciate you so much, not only for all of the work that clearly went into this article, but for managing to create a front page article talking about BLs on this site at all! It's a rare and glorious thing indeed. My only critique would be that the fancy font you use for the header has a weird t and it took me a couple of seconds to realise it wasn't misspelled. also, another drama that utilizes the saoqingniang to emotional effect is rainless love in a godless land.
