I love how this drama is only out 8 episodes and it threw a huge curve ball against the norm in cdrama and we already have some angry crowd XD. Most dramas made the lead flawless characteristics and the only flaw happened when "it just have to be this way" kind of situation when in reality we human made many stupid mistakes and wrong judgement, like what happened with Li Ni and Cui Lin in episode 8. We can see that Cui Lin is smart and very ambitious, the scriptwriter did well here, what people perceived as Cui Lin outsmarted Li Ni again can be seen it gave her overconfidence in the next discussion to intercept Zhenxi army, this is also a flaw, while Li Ni showed weakness currently, he doesn't leave his character behind either as we can see he was observing Cui Lin making all the decisions not the young master when it was said she ranked below him hence he purposedly invited the young master for discussions, hinting that he know the truth, the absolute truth, he learned from observing Lft He. I'm glad to see both leads have realistic human characteristics especially during war times rather than having leads who said to be general but all they do is thinking of each other. Love is weave into the war-living condition, in a logical way.

Also remember the flashback of Li Ni living in the palace, he was treated badly and grow up a very angry kid hence he is driven mostly by his emotion, a flaw but looking from preview its very much a growth journey for both Cui Lin and Li Ni.

It actually make sense because they have been playing this pretending game for so long that it can get to one head how he can be better than where he is now.

From what I remember (I read the novel in May? June? I forgot)

This is an alternate twist writer did to go through the female general disguise as a man without fooling anyone.
She is Cui Lin because she is the only child of General Cui Yi, but for years she has been pretending to be He Ying acting as subordinate of Liu Cheng who pretend to be Cui Lin the son of General Cui Yi, hence he wore the mask. So everyone think that general cui yi has excellent son, when actually he has excellent daughter, the latest episode already foreshadowing that.

It explained earlier that the crown prince son managed to escape, crown princess was spared because she was the childhood sweetheart of the Governor

Anyway another two excellent episode. That sword dance scenes such goosebump, the song and singer choice also too good. The supporting roles are also strong so far in addition to strong performance from Xu Kai and Jing Tian. The script so far is really well written, really hope for this quality to be intact until the end.

I was about to rate and saw two low rating from 2 users for episode 7,8,9 and 10. Now we really know its from haters, obviously those episodes didn't come out yet.

The overall production seen from the first 4 episodes is good, you can see this team actually pay attention to details. The background music for each scenes complimented the atmosphere it tried to deliver. As expected Director Steven Cheng really knows how to take a shot. I like some scenes that shows they take into detail like when Li Ni tried to hide Cui Lin from her comrade and he took that pinwheel and the merchant was looking at him like "Bro are you going to pay for that?" and the next shot is Li Ni blasely extending his hand paying without even looking lol. and the beggars around the off camera shot. Hopefully this is not just the quality focus on the first 10 episodes like the other cdramas often do.

Btw ratings can be manipulated, but not audience, his dramas that people keep saying bad or have poor ratings, but his dramas are being bought in multiple countries and aired on their tv prime time, Russian TV has aired 3 of his dramas and they have only just started to air chinese dramas and the one that did well in rating is his dramas, even in China, She and Her Perfect Husband with the so called low rating is currently 2nd to Lost You Forever on Tencent's new member list, and it aired a year ago. So just because the audience he attracted is the kind who don't bother to comment or rate dramas online, doesn't mean he is doing poorly as people think. There are more audience out there who simply watch dramas.

Unusually good, many good reviews and the negative ones are unrelated to the drama as in mocking the actors. But 90% praised the first 4 episodes

He has hardcore haters who even take time to leave nasty comments on his personal page. Xu Kai fans would know who did this because its always repeat offender as not everyone has that kind of energy to waste on others. But doesn't matter anymore, they can rate as low as they want but the drama is good so far and that's what matters.

It's kind of amusing she thinks she is not a troll when she is doing the exact behavior of a troll so either she meant harm or not she's just the same as other brainless people who simply believe in rumors and take it as facts convinced that they are always right, the fact that you mention about looking at ratings all 8.0 to justify her statement is funny because outside of mdl people look down on mdl score because it is very fanbase bias. These kind of people even when it is obvious they believe trolls while mocking others as trolls which is funny. Well it shows their IQ level anyway.
