I found The Long Season ultimately more satisfying with regard to its character arcs and resolution and plot twists, but compared to others, still found Why Try to Change Me Now phenomenal. The characters are traumatized and emotionally stunted aliens living in harsh environments. Both shows dig into the trauma of Dongbei rust belt life and economic shifts.

Both are mystery comedy crime dramas starring Kyoko Fukada as a police officer. She's a detective from a rich family in Fugoh, while she's a traffic police dragged into detective work in Remote.

Escape from the Trilateral Slopes is more of an tense action thriller than an atmospheric noir, but overlaps in digging into human darkness and phenomenal performances from Jiang Qiming.
