a capable female lead must survive in a powerful household while facing constant schemes and hostility from those around her. similarly, the other story follows a clever female lead caught in a dangerous world of revenge, political intrigue, and power struggles. while one focuses more on surviving within a powerful family and dealing with internal conflicts, the other expands to court politics and a battle for the throne, with the leads eventually working together against their enemies.

Joy of Life is a political thriller that never pretended otherwise. My Journey to You made the mistake of dressing as a romance. Strip that away and you find the same DNA: a chess game inside a sophisticated world, layered characters whose every move carries weight, and love that is real but never the point.

Both star Ishihara Satomi and Iura Arata.
Workplace setting, somewhat of an ensemble.
Plot wise they are very different.

Both FLs are martial art masters and MLs are their pupils. Qingchuan's Veil of Vengeance focus more on sword fight and politics, Secrets of the Shadow Sect focus more on romance and sects.

- lot of political subplot
- also a reborn x revenge story
- in ashes of crown, only the FL remembers her past, she wants revenge on her past husband and she allies with others to take him down
- in the princess royal, both of them remember their past and they're working together

personally I dropped The Princess Royal because it wasn't that dynamic, meanwhile Ashes of Crown has more action and I love that the FL is manipulative and she sees through a lot of schemes, she has a strategist's mind

Both FLs pretend to be a man, in a non-cute more believable way.
In Dominion and Devotion the FL is the emperor, it's more dramatic.
In The Cross-Dressed Union the FL is a scholar, and HIS WIFE is a cross-dressed man, it is more light-hearted.

Both have a main male character that doesn't want to get married, albeit for different reasons. Also, the interactions between the 2 leads, at least in the first couple of episodes of "Because This is My first life", are pretty similar to the leads in "Full time wife escapist" in they type of discussions they hold (male lead in "Because This is my first life" graphs everything out, as does the female lead in "Full time wife escapist", to a certain point).

Judging from the trailer, Lost to Light seems to take a lot of inspiration from Gelboys (not that this is a bad thing. If you really enjoy that vibe, either series may appeal to you). The ost is very similar with these gamey, pixely, retro beats, the asthetics are similar, there are several scenes taking place on trains or big city squares, the two main leads meet accidentally and later encounter eachother again.
The main character is part of a music group (im Gelboys hes in a band, in Lost to Light hes part of an idol Group) and has spikey hair.
Both shows also feature idol culture/idols/idol music in general (in Gelboys e.g. the main characters are fans of different idols, attend concerts, collect merch etc..).
Multiple couples in both.
Gelboys season 2 features established couples as it is the continuation of Gelboys.
Both shows will be released in 2026
