Always is similar to Christmas in August less because of the plot and more because of the emotional themes. Both films are about ordinary people who find love at a time when life is about to take it away from them. In Christmas in August, Jung-won quietly faces his terminal illness while falling for Da-rim, knowing their future together is impossible. In Always, Cheol-min falls in love with the blind Jung-hwa and ultimately sacrifices his own happiness and well-being for her future. Both movies emphasize selfless love, where the main character chooses the other person’s happiness over their own desires. They also share a gentle, understated approach to romance, focusing on everyday moments—conversations, small acts of kindness, and quiet companionship—rather than dramatic declarations of love.

The biggest difference is tone. Christmas in August is much more subtle and contemplative, almost like a slice-of-life film about accepting mortality, while Always is more melodramatic and emotional, with action, tragedy, and larger sacrifices. However, if what moved you about Christmas in August was watching two lonely people connect deeply while knowing their time together is limited, then Always captures a very similar feeling of tenderness, loss, and unconditional love. In both films, love is meaningful not because it lasts forever, but because it changes the lives of the people involved.

Even If This Love Disappears Tonight is similar to Christmas in August because both are bittersweet romances about loving someone despite knowing the relationship cannot last. In Christmas in August, Jung-won falls in love while quietly facing his impending death, while in Even If This Love Disappears Tonight, the characters struggle against memory loss and illness that threaten to erase their future together. Both films focus on the beauty of ordinary moments rather than grand romantic gestures, emphasizing how love can leave a lasting impact even when time, memory, or life itself takes it away. Rather than fighting against tragedy, both stories explore acceptance, cherishing the present, and the idea that memories and feelings can endure long after a relationship has ended, giving them a similarly gentle, emotional, and deeply moving atmosphere.

a lot of elements of these two movies are same. some being:
- highschool themed.
- a transfer FL who got popular in her school for her beauty.
- the ML not being interested in her looks but later falling for who she was.
+ a lot more small details that seem pretty similar.

Both are Thai BLs with darker themes and involve investigating murder and corruption.
GBYFD has a supernatural element to it though.

I dragged recommending this. As i rewatched musume wa kareshi ga dekinai, I felt the chaos is at par with we are all trying here. But it took me 6 episodes on the rewatch to finally submit a recommendation.

If you are imoressed with the writing of the korean one, you will get a lot of that in japanese. They are thoroughly words based. Even in manga versus webtoons. A page of a manga is filled with bubbles, be it conversation or monologues. Webtoon has more spaces in between and sceneries that convey. So in this case, we are all trying here feels so japanese. Hwang Dong Man and his million of words reminds me so much of being straight out of japanese manga panels.

The characters in musume are so complex too.


Spoiler : we have stalker and victim tandem, a doctor that is stuck with his elementary classmate, old man x college age student. Dad mom and musume is a bit odd too if you think much about it.
But the writing makes them so much of a humane that it is enjoyable. You think it is fantasy but also, it is convincing that such characters live somewhere in real japan.

Both are unique and wholesome and definitely a watch!!!

A romantic comedy

Both dramas feature a female lead who finds herself in an unfamiliar world and becomes involved with several handsome men. They share a similar blend of romance, comedy, fantasy elements, and love-triangle dynamics. If you enjoyed the playful atmosphere and multiple romantic interests in How Dare You, you'll likely enjoy Unique Lady as well.

There are 3 seasons and end up exactly like 'How Dare You'

Both are thai mystery and thriller series with lots of drama, betrayal, intrigue. Focus lies on a toxic friendship group as one of them is killed. Punpun stars as a female lead in both.

Both are boys love dramas with an assassin ML whose love interest is working for the police. ML is both entangled in a crime but also in a romantic relationship with his rival whom he has to hide his real identity from.
Focus on action, crime, deception.

- Dark, gritty themes.
- Stolen items found.
- Desperate survival choices.
- Greed corrupts them.

Both give off the same vibe. So, if you have just finished light shop and want a short kdrama with a good plot, I 100% recommend family matters. It is not the best kdrama out there but it is a good and enjoyable watch (I also very recommend summer strike, which is a comfort kdrama imo but has a good amount of suspense).
