Both dramas deal around an adult that is looking after a small girl. Both dramas have family, finding family and growing on one another as themes. Both are wonderful, heart warming dramas.

Although Black has a supernatural element. Both dramas present a an interesting question.....who is this mysterious handsome man?

Both explore Korean modern society and culture through the lens of family and the effect the demands of "modernity" has on family and culture. This is explored through the perspective of adult children seeking love, fulfillment, status and financial stability; and how family and past choices aid and hinders this quest.

Same director and writer with Park So Dam appearing in both films. Both are set during the Japanese colonialism in Korea and have strong female characters. The Silenced is set in a boarding school while Phantom is set in an isolated hotel. The Phantom is an action thriller espionage film while The Silenced is a horror mystery film. LGBT-coded characters in both films. Both show violence towards Koreans and the horrors of Japanese colonialism during the Japanese colonial period in Korea.

Both of them are awkward and innocent romance. Main leads are inexperienced in dating and are shy with each other. These dramas also have a café linked to the story.
Both dramas are also short and easy to follow and watch! I found the characters to be somehow similar as well.

Gina Jin is simply AMAZING when it comes to being able to portray the concubine who isnt even slightly impressed with the in-fighting among concubines vying for the Prince's attention, and displays good comedic chops and also not scared to simply be quirky. Definitely a fun one to watch!

When I started watching 'The Witches Game'. I immediately thought of 'Gold Mask'. Both of these dramas are INCREDIBLE, IT IS A MUST to WATCH!!


P.S.: Do not mind how many eps there are I ASSUME you that you will enjoy it as much as I did and lots of tearing and giggling.

The overall plot is extremely simliar with the added gambling nuance in Insider. (Innocent lawyer/prosecutor framed and sent to jail, Become the boss in prison, Came out of prison to become the boss of a 'criminal' organization). Though I would say, the scriptwriter much more consistent with Insider (:
