Very similar backdrop, also about the Anti Organised crime and corruption campaign that occurred in Mainland for 3 years. Chasing the Undercurrent is based on a true story whilst The Fight isn’t….

Both are crime-thrillers with nuance and humanity. Kuchinai Sakura’s pace feels comparatively more slow and drawn out, while Orokamono no Mibun is more blatant in its brutality.

However, the major reason I’d recommend viewers of one to watch the other is the human desire to cling desperately to hope. Both of these films are fairly bleak, with Kuchinai Sakura’s understated bleakness in contrast to that of the heavy and blunt bleakness in Orokamono no Mibun.

In both dramas, the leads (FL in Anna and ML in Regeneration) were seen as the most promising student in their high school despite a humble background, but a transgression leads to their fall from grace, leaving them reeling. In both dramas, they have a reporter friend who uncovers the truth, and both have dysfunctional marriages.

FL is secretly a badass warrior that people are looking for. Both FLs have a hidden identity or disguise, and both are in weaker bodies (Mudeok bc body swap, Ming Yi bc she’s been poisoned and had been disguised as a man her whole life).

Both explore “who am I / what I was / what I become”, and how power (or loss thereof) influences identity and relationships.
