both escape of the seven and the penthouse are extreme makjang dramas from the same writer and director that are full of shocking twists and nonstop tense conflict. both center on harsh revenge against powerful corrupt people who get away with awful crimes and hide their dark secrets behind money and high social standing. they take place among rich privileged groups who lie betray and harm others without guilt to satisfy their greed and guard their own positions. both stories feature morally gray characters who turn bolder and more ruthless as they push back against cruelty and injustice. they also use fancy lavish settings to show the wide gap between the cruel upper class and the people they have hurt while filling every episode with unexpected turns that keep viewers hooked all the way through.

both summer strike and our beloved summer are comforting, slow-paced slice-of-life k-dramas focused on emotional healing and personal growth. they feature deeply relatable, introspective leads who learn to confront their past pain and rediscover themselves at their own pace. set against beautifully warm, sun-drenched backdrops, both shows deliver a soothing aesthetic and a gentle, slow-burn romance that makes them the perfect therapeutic escape.

A story that follows two men who are polar opposites; one kills while the other heals. One is a violent cop, and the other is a compassionate doctor. Together, they support and redeem each other during troubled times. Jiang Yue Lou heads the Jingcheng Police Station and appears neither good nor evil. Yet smugglers tremble at the thought of him.

While investigating an opium case in Hong Kong, Yue Lou encounters Yu Zhi, who learns that Yue Lou suffers from bipolar disorder. Although initially reluctant to undergo treatment, Yue Lou eventually opens up to Yu Zhi. Despite their differing values, they slowly become close friends. At this time, the secrets from the past start to bubble to the surface.

Similar kidnapping case, but "Kairos" is more f-ed up and also, there is a time slip thing in it too. Pretty interesting. Slow, but worth it.

Another drama with Che Yeojeong. It's crazy how she always chooses the cheating or getting cheated on characters for her projects. Both dramas have many similarities.

Cho Yeojeong acted as the main lead in both dramas. The plots are quite similar, mainly involving cheating, family dynamics, and so on. "Cheat on me if you can" also features a murder mystery as a main plot point. Both dramas are entertaining to watch.

Office romance, older woman/younger man relationship except the woman is in a higher position in the company than the man.

Overall I do think High School King of Savvy has a lighter tone to it but the male leads remind me of each other.

Both have a darker Gothic feel. Both are fantasy revolving around mystery and plot twists. Both have secret identities, and betrayals that aren't what they seem. Both have beautiful cinematography. And both have beautiful tragic love stories.
