Love it - you have to watch a while to get the comical slant of what at first appears a slightly OTT "bullying - masochistic" theme but the game is given away quite early (I won't spoil it by saying how - you have to watch carefully), it is really done very well and the good-looking protagonists (well, to me they are) kept me watching, some might say Kurosaki was OTT and Akahane OTT passive but that's actually the nature of manga, it doesn't generally do "refined" (does it??) Not for everyone, maybe, but I absolutely loved the dark humour and bizarre characters, and (I have to confess) Kurosaki best.

Music - well I picked out Vivaldi, Mozart, Dvorak, Prokofiev and Debussy, so how much better can you get? Very refined these kids.

Re-watch for me 11/10

OVERALL:
Even through the acting was a bit lacking it still was enjoyable.
I liked the manga a bit more, because the story in the drama seem rashed and the development not natural. I really recomend the manga. The whole story is a lot stronger in it and there are more "romantic" siturations. It's a bit more love-triangle (aka stronger) and more action on this part. So who can not stand love-triangels should never read the manga and maybe not watch the movie.

STORY:
I really like stories of this kind. About prejudice beeing wrong and sometimes right. And of cource a sweet love story with a little bit of darkness in it. Love triangels are not mine but on a moderate level they are alright. In this drama I was ok with it. The story is not complited with this drama, still it's not a must. But who wants to know how it continuous should to so.

ACTING:
I found myself getting annoyed at the main character. I think it whould have been possible to show the inner struggle without her behaving like a strange kind of animal occationally. Also I misst the chemestry between the actors. The acting of the main actress was quite good when she was alone, but with others around it became partly unbelivable. At scene with just the "Black Demon" she was alright/ok.
The two male actors where good in scenes where they interacted with each other.

Komatsu Nana:
Her acting was not funny (if it was aimed at being). Still i thing with a bit guidance she can become a really good actress. Then I think she will be able to play a wide range of different roles.

Chiba Yudai:
His acting was pretty unrealistic. He was mostly just smiling sweetly and I couldn't see much feeling being put into his acting. It's like he is himsel and not his role.

Nakajima Kento:
His acting was neither bad nor good, but I could see potential. I think he will develop into a better actor with time.

Takatsuki Sara: Her acting was really good in some scenes and in otheres it wasn't. I think she will become better with time.

MUSIC:
I don't remember any remarkable music, but also there wasn't any annoying music.

REWATCH VALUE:
The acting is bothering me a little bit to much to rewatch it, but the story is making it a possibility.

[WARNING: the rating and review I give have the possibility to be subjective due to my preference for the genres, scenes or casts]

"But, you know, the pain of old scars...somehow...never totally disappears."

“Beautiful” male not really my cup of tea, and in my opinion Chiba Yudai is too beautiful (^_^;) So, at first I didn’t meant to watch this. I forgot what makes me finally watch this, but I didn’t regret it, because surprisingly I'm enjoying my time watch this (◕‿◕) The story quite light with a adolescence conflict. The solution is not too clear because it will be continue in the movie.

The casts acting is quite good, especially for Chiba Yudai and Komatsu Nana. As for Nakajima Kento, I think he could do better, because somehow it feels he forced his acting to be cool/comical.

The only reason on why I see some people disliking this drama is because they think this movie is unrealistic. Well, what do you expect for a shoujo movie? Of course everything is exaggerated or made up for the purpose to create a romantic and fluffy plot so the audience can enjoy the movie.
I really really recommend this movie. It is one of the best shoujo movie made ever. The love chemistry between the leads are excellent. The plot development is smooth. Mainly, this movie just has a fantastic plot. I just love this movie so much, tbh 10/10, no bias. I have rewatched it at least 6 times already and I still love it so much. This movie is seriously really good. Please give it a try and watch it. Thank you :D

Just gonna warn you guys the acting in here sucks. The only person sho had good acting was Kurosaki because of his facial expression, his tone and the style of his speech. The worst actor in here was the girl lead because she tries wayyyyy to hard. She just doesnt fit the part. They should've used a different girl. The plot doesnt make sense either due to the fact that she isnt THAT special so how do two of the most popular guys fall for her? Again, just doesnt make sense. The plot moves wayy to fast for people to understand what is going on. Honestly, it wasnt a good choice to watch it.

Great Character Development

I really liked this drama. It was very short, sweet and straight to the point with a really good pace. I loved all the characters, and I love how this drama focused on the FL becoming a stronger person after years of being bullied at her old school. It didn't just focus on the romance.

I really liked the FL in this drama. The first Jdrama where the FL isn't annoying and weak with a childish voice. You got to really see how strong she is and I really like that she didn't like the ML at first. The ML is like a child when it comes to expressing his crush on the FL (by bullying her). But despite this, he really helped her grow and become a stronger person by forcing her to do things she was uncomfortable to do. I don't mean this in a bad way; the ML saw her list of things she wants to do to become her new self and the situations he put her in forced her to accomplish these goals without even realising it. My favourite part was how he made her go to her school reunion by telling her thay she should go because she "changed", she accomplished her goals and so she should show her old classmates that she is so much better now.

I didn't really like the SML at first. He does grow on me, but it felt more like he was using the FL more than anything. I understand why the FL liked him more than the ML: the ML represented everything she was running away from. But the ML does in fact turn out to he better than this, and I love that she realises that he was actually helping her out in his odd way.

You can really see that this drama was based of off a manga. I mean the ML's hair cut and his characteristics are so exaggerated, that from what little I've seen of manga's, even I can tell he is based of off one. It's the harshness of his character, his over reactions and the fact that he is always screaming, it's unrealistic, but in the world of this drama, it is very real and normal.

I also really like thay neither the FL nor the ML realise that they like each other in this drama.

After watching the sequel I can tell you that the story concluded really well.

Watch it before you watch the black devil & the white prince

The sequence tells the story about how these three met and reached to the equation they are sharing in the movie the black devil and the white prince.. plot is comic romantic and sassy at the same time ..actors did a great job is catching the essense of their roles .. I think the role of akabane yuu could have been better why is she lying on the ground in every second scene .. but anyway her chemistry with kurosaki is bomb.

Loved it

Classic Asian YA Drama...

I'll keep this review short just like this drama...
This drama is first of all a prequel drama to a movie, which is pretty common in Japanese film industry for some reason (eg.- Gokusen, Are you ready? Hey you girl and L DK)
Secondly, it's pretty cliched. Girl sees someone getting bullied. Girl stands up to said bully. Bully turns out to be the most popular guy on campus. Bully starts harassing the girl as revenge. Bully's Bff saves the girl. Girl develops crush on Bff. Bff is in love with someone else. Girl gets dejected. Bully shows a little sympathy. Girl starts liking Bully (Masochist). Bully still harasses the girl but also starts liking her (Sadist). Bff gets rejected and realises he might actually like Girl. Bff starts chasing girl. Bully starts chasing Girl. Girl gets conflicted. Ends on a cliffhanger. (starting point for the sequel)
If you are wondering why this plot seems so familiar, it's because this is almost the same exact plot as Boys Over Flowers/Hana Yori Dango/Meteor Garden (even the color theme is similar. The main lead has dark hair and mostly wears black clothes, the 2nd lead has bleached hair and predominantly wears white attire).
So yeah the story is not unique. But the overall character development achieved is pretty good. Unlike Boys Over Flowers where the FL always helps the ML with his character development but the vice-versa never happens, here both the leads as well as the other side characters help with each others improvement.
In conclusion if you wanna watch a great Japanese drama I would suggest you keep looking but if you wanna watch something for passing the time this drama is a fun watch.

As a fan of the manga and curious to see the adaptation, I got pretty disappointed

I warn you that this review will be long because:
1. I'll go over several scenes;
2. I'll make comparisons with the manga;
3. I'm so logorrheic that I hate myself.
Let's start with the assumption that maybe I'm too old to see certain things and that this may be a drama more suitable for teenagers, however I also remember watching it for the first time when I was 16 and even then I was quite embarrassed (not in a good way). Now that I'm 21 I felt like watching it again... well I had better not.
"Kurosaki-kun no Iinari ni Nante Naranai" was the first manga I ever read and which I cherish, because yes the story is cliché, but at the same time the characters have a beautiful evolution in my opinion. I have reread it so many times and it always makes me feel a mixture of emotions, so I would say it does its job well.
This adaptation only has the "base" of the story, otherwise they have made many changes that do not make sense.
In the manga, Akabane already knows the Black Demon and the White Prince when she moves to the dormitory, while the drama begins with her actually having to move in and meeting them for the first time. And so far I might have been okay with that. But inexplicable things happen: to intimidate Yuu, Kurosaki approaches, but his hair gets caught in Yuu's button... in order to free him, she cuts off a very long lock of hair-- what was the need to cut so much omg. Rightly Kuro gets angry and to take revenge he kisses her.... I didn't like the way the whole thing happens. In the manga it has a certain effect because Kuro realizes that kissing her is the only way to annoy her, because Yuu actually manages to stand up to him. Then the later punishments he gives her are because Yuu does not always follow the rules of the dormitory, etc. Instead in the drama it's pure bullying for no other reason: he tells her to do whatever he tells her for 3 months and she tells him YES. She acquires the courage to retort only later. But am I wrong or did she want to be a different person from the beginning of the film?
I understand that she is still trying to change, and one must also point out the imposing and aggressive attitude of the black demon, but she is constantly standing with her back bent! I get that it's to make herself smaller and all you want, but it's too much! Here it's the fault of either the director or the actress... haven't seen other films of Nana Komatsu to compare, my bad.
It cracks me up how in order to look for a more or less large balled-up sheet of paper on a lawn with CUT GRASS, she stands on her hands and knees, thus covering a very limited area.
Then how can he order her to clean all the basketballs or decorate the Christmas tree? At the dorm he definitely has authority, but at school no lmao. And she does all of that anyway!
Another thing I didn't appreciate is how they changed Meiko's character.
In the manga she is very shy and Yuu helps her in many things, highlighting how Yuu is frivolous and uninhibited in some ways. It was nice to see Meiko's character and especially the friendship between her and Yuu evolve. While here the roles are reversed: Meiko is tough and that's it--
And this thing about white prince and Yuu pretending to be dating... it's cringe and just doesn't make any sense.
Shall we talk about the character of Suzune for a moment?
In the manga she is not present and in fact in the drama she is the most senseless and stupid character. She is introduced as a childhood friend of Kurosaki and Shirakawa, who returns to Tokyo to inform them that she is getting married-- then it turns out she STILL has a crush on Kurosaki. But wait a minute- she's getting married, so I think she's 25 and up AT LEAST. Kurosaki and Shirakawa are first-year high school students-- doesn't that make Suzune a pedophile? Just saying..
Finally the message of the middle school reunion was sent. So randomly Kuro orders Akabane to go, the reason is unknown... When I saw this scene, I was shocked. It doesn't really make sense. In the manga, Yuu expresses the fact that she has no pleasant memories of middle school, but she decides to go anyway with no ifs or buts and pulls out the stops: she stands up for herself and even prevents Kuro from being meddled in a fight, by being hit in the face with a book.
These two episodes are prequel. I have still the movie to rewatch too and in fact as soon as I finish this review I'll rewatch it, because I hate to leave things incomplete.
Anyway, the last episode ends with Shirakawa openly declaring to Kurosaki that he wants to make Yuu his own.
Immediately afterwards we see a Yuu who has apparently gained more self-confidence and is seen by others in a different light. Thus all for no reason. It is not clear why Shirakawa suddenly fell in love with Yuu. In the drama she literally has nothing special, unlike the manga.
This review is a reminder to keep me from doing another rewatch.
All I can say is that it's light enough to watch. The other actors act well, it's just Yuu's character that is too childish and if certain scenes were heavy for me to watch I think it is for that reason.
If you have never read the manga, give it a try.
On the other hand, if you are a fan of the manga like me, I don't advise you to watch it or your nerves will explode.
