Shiosai (1975)

On the small island of Utajima, 18-year-old Shinji works aboard a fishing boat to support his mother and younger brother. One evening, he encounters Hatsue, the daughter of wealthy villager Miyata Terukichi, who has recently returned to the island so that her father can find a suitable husband to carry on the family name. After meeting again at an abandoned observation post, Shinji and Hatsue gradually fall in love and make it their secret meeting place. However, rumors that Yasuo is expected to marry Hatsue, along with jealousy and gossip among the islanders, threaten to separate them. As Shinji and his rival are chosen to train aboard the admired Hinode-maru, he must face new challenges that could determine his future with Hatsue.
