Shiosai (1971)

On the small island of Utajima, 18-year-old Shinji works aboard a fishing boat to support his mother and younger brother. One evening, he encounters Hatsue, the daughter of a wealthy widower who has recently brought her back to the island in hopes of finding a suitable husband to carry on the family name. Through a series of chance encounters, Shinji and Hatsue gradually fall in love and begin meeting in secret, wary of the islanders’ gossip. However, rumors, jealousy, and the difference in their social standing soon threaten their relationship. As Shinji faces a powerful rival for Hatsue’s hand, he must prove his courage and determination if he hopes to build a future with her.
