This was certainly a emotional drama which really takes your eyes for adventure. It really great news to hear that the main leads were an official couple when they still filming this show. Long dramas really are quite rare these days. But most of the episode were entertaining and wasn't boring. One thing I have to say is the ending was confusing but from some sources I heard that there is going to be a season 2 which may help answer this conclusion.

Story:
I am not going spoil it for whomever is going to watch the drama. Sooooo..... I am going to shortly-summarish- explain this. There was a time period before the current time period in the story. The people in the before time period wants to revive their period by making their prince the emperor. But of course the time right now already has a king and that king is doing a fair job. This is actually the main problem of the whole story but there are many tiny other issues that occur in the drama too. Love plays a big part and there is a lot of heartbreak too. (Multiple heartbreaks)

Acting/Cast:
I can't really describe how the acting was but I just know that I really disliked the antagonists. Which probably means that those actors did a great job on making me hate them. The good people were likable and the audiences' feelings was controlled by the story. So I have to say the acting was amusing. The cast was amazing too each of actors represenyed the character and the feeling matched correctly.

Music:
I can't recall the music but I just know that something occurred during the tragic scenes which made me cry. So I guess it decent?

Rewatch:
I would most definitely rewatch this. It is one of the most complex long historical drama in 2017 that became popular and known. Before I die I would no doubt watch it again!

Remember if you watch this, bring a carton of tissues.????

Admittedly, I almost skipped this show as I was never a fan of Yang Zi or Qin Jun Jie before. In fact, I very much disliked her role in Ode to Joy, and was not impressed by either one of them in The Legend of Chusen (which I watched because of Zhao Li Ying). It was therefore coincidental that I picked up this show, and I am glad I did as I could not stop watching ever since.

Acting/Cast and Rewatch Value
Both outperformed in this role and their chemistry is magnetic. It seems like this role brought the best out of them or suits them incredibly well. Their scenes are incredibly sweet and entertaining. I therefore give them a 9, as I've never given a 10 before, except for the rewatch value of this series. Usually, if I have difficulty letting go of a series, rewatching the relevant parts helps so I feel like I have gotten enough of it. But the chemistry of the main couple and the 'light' story makes it easily rewatcheable and hard to let go.

Music and Story
There are a few good songs and the story is nice so I've given both an 8. The opening song stays and there is a beautifully romantic song during the series that is applicable. But there aren't too many songs and the ending song only starts appealing at some point after it was introduced in a relevant scene. The story itself is nice but the contrast between serious/heavy parts and light parts is at times too big which does not seem realistic at times. Especially when you expect something important to happen. Sometimes the story goes too slow and after 12 episodes I wondered, is that all? Whereas the 12 episodes before or after were very exciting.

I am only disappointed with the ending as an important part is missing according to the trailer. There is also no certainty if the series will continue with a sequel (as it depends on whether this one was successful), with the same cast (whether they are all available at the same time). I really liked Yang Zi and Qin Jun Jie together, and the other casts portray a believable performance as well. I think most people are well cast, except the Grandmother, who speaks a bit strange.

Overall, I give it an 8,5 as there are only a few series I have given a 9 to. 10 is perfect and I have never given it before.

My god. 90 full episodes were finished by me in 3 days.

Firstly, I am a big fan of Yang Zi, not much of Qin JJ, but after watching this show, I'm a fan. He is a great actor, so is Yang Zi in all her movies and dramas. With these 2 awesome actors, the drama really comes to life. It's great to see the chemistry between the main 2 actors... but keep in mind, if you want some cute, sweet, low key sexual moments, you have to suffer to the 50-60 episodes.

However, since Yang Zi and Qin JJ is real life couple while doing this movie, their kiss scenes are really.... kissy. It's very, very heartwarming to see the chemistry between the two of them.

I adore the actors, the music as well. The story... not much. This entire plot revolves around a rebel group that is trying to overthrow the Qing emperor. However, the girl, Yang Zi (YiHuan in the movie) falls in love with him. The ending was a damn mess, fucking angering really.

My advice is watching this on youtube, and STOP at 16:38. DO NOT WATCH AFTER THAT, unless they give out a season 2. The ending is just messy, and makes you want to vomit. This whole story is fine, except if you want just the romance (because their chemistry is REALLY GOOD.) You would skip over everything regarding the rebel group, and just go for their adventure during when the 2 main casts are together.

Overall, defo something you can watch for some Qin JJ and Yang Zi cute moments. I dropped the rewatch value because of the ending. It's truly, terrible. makes no sense as well, don't watch the ending.

If you want the real ending, search "legend of the dragon pearl - deleted ending" on You Tube

Great series and acting by all participants. It's subbed to ep 42 on YouTube. If you search "legend of the dragon pearl - deleted ending" on YouTube, you'll find the video clip of the real ending. There was supposed to be a season 2; however, the leads stopped dating, the second season was scrapped and the original ending leading in to season 2 was cut, leading to a different ending.

The comments under the scrapped clip clearly state what actually occurred at the end of the season:

The FL and the SML are attacked on their way home and the SML is killed. The FL fakes her death to the emperor but will show herself to the emperor at some point, revealing to him that she is alive as she suspects him of having a link with the death of the SML. FL then leaves with her family. FL married the Crown prince posthumously in a wedding
gown bowing at a grave. Yi Huan says (written words) she'll come back in 3 years to take the Emperor's life and his kingdom.

Excellent 89 episodes...

The story tells of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing dynasty and the last princess of the Southern Ming dynasty. They met on a street of Beijing and became friends, unaware of the identity of each other. Neither was the princess aware of her true identity. They crossed each other path again and faced several life threatening events together, during which the princess risked her life to save the emperor. They fell in love in spite of the initial prejudice of the last princess against the Qing emperor. Was their love to be ill-fated?

When selecting dramas, I typically pick those with rating 8 and above on mydramalist. But YouTube posted the trailers of this drama on my home page. I was fascinated and started watching the drama since I had just finished watching my Korean soap opera. There are 90 episodes of about half hour each, in all. Why do I say excellent 89 episodes?

The key things that impressed me was an excellent cast with great chemistry between the male and female leads, and interesting storyline, full of suspense and interjected humour. At least for 89 episodes I had enjoyed it tremendously. The final episode was an anti-climax with a lot of unanswered questions. There were a lot of negative comments on the last episode on YouTube. The ending was out of character with the drama - the story had been one when the leads always came out safe if not victorious - but it suddenly ended to the contrary. Endings with unanswered questions seem very typical of Chinese dramas. Poor endings are very typical of dramas - often the last episode looked like it the editing team had ran out of time and had to end the drama in a hurry as it was too long, or it had to be released right away, or the writer ran out of steam, or simply the writer is good at weaving suspense but not conclusion.

Also, it is highly improbable that the two could have met in history. So if you are not too concern about historical accuracy or an ending full of questions, it is a drama worth watching.

The ending theme song was lovely; the drama was well produced; costume was appropriate and I would rewatch it. Disregarding the questionable ending I chose to rate it highly at 9.

I hoped it would be better.

First off I love Zi Yang. But it seems they like to give her roles where she is stupid and doesn’t understand love. It made since in Ashes of Love but in this series it wasn’t necessary at all. Now on to the show.. I have a HUGE problem with the Emperors personality. This show pretty much supports men dominance. He tries to force himself on her when she said no multiple times. He doesn’t care that she doesn’t want to be one of his many girls and he tells her he can’t just have one women. He is manipulating and controlling because he is in a place of power.. I watched the whole show in hopes it would get better but it didn’t. I don’t believe she died.. I think she did it to escape his and his mental abuse. If they make more I hope they make her character stronger and not be manipulated.. I hate shows that show this kind of “Love”.. that’s not love. She might have loved him but she knew he was controlling her.

This drama was so good - marathoning it night and day to get through 90 episodes --- but oops -- the drama ends in 62 episodes and I spend half a day trying to find 63-90 ( raw or subbed). After reading it was on Amazon Prime I went to Prime and yes it only has 62 episodes. All of the streaming websites lead the viewer to believe there are 90 episodes so you have to re-watch to accept the fact that ep 62 is the end. Nonetheless, I felt cheated because it was such a good storyline and it had so many secondary stories that needed to be told. I am assuming someone planned to do a second season but it never was made or still on someone's drawing board. This was my frustration.

Story - the story was so good and really needed to be told to its conclusion for viewer satisfaction.
Acting/Cast - chemistry over the top and the roles were cast perfectly throughout
Music - good - not epic but good
Rewatch - would only watch season 2 if ever made or rewatch as a refresher.
Overall - for many could be a waste of time ( if you like finality) but as a filler {in between searching for a good drama) it was satisfying.

Hear me out

Okay so I usually NEVER watch these type of dramas. I love historical Chinese dramas or maybe wuxia but the moment I find out that the male lead is half-bald, I just don’t watch it. It’s too funny for me and at the same time I just can’t. This one was my first where the male lead was half-bald and lemme tell you, I had a hard time getting over it,

Anyways, away from his bald head. The chemistry was top notch. I LOVED our leads together. Sure, our female lead got a tad excessive at some points but it’s nothing that you can’t deal with. For the most of the story, she’s adorable and quirky and lovable. Even our male lead thinks so. He’s super head over heels in love with her. He lets her get away with anything. And by anything, I mean anything cus she does a lot of questionable stuff sometimes (slap the emperor, change the edict, CONSTANTLY lie to him...) He gets mad this one time and punishes her and even then, he’s the one who’s more upset than her.

But as good as the leads were at playing this bickering couple, they weren’t that good at their other parts. The characters outside of their romantic roles were weak. There was some considerable character development but at the end I just wasn’t sure if it was worth it. No offense to our actors though, they did amazing. The way the male lead used his eyes to show tiny changes in emotion was mesmerizing. And Yang Zi was as great as usual. It’s just an issue with the characters.

To add on to that, I found myself constantly skipping because of the dragging story line. I don’t even understand why Ming dynasty wanted to take over. There were so many betrayals, spies and twists that it irritated me. The plot wasn’t tight and the ending was so disappointing. It felt rushed. There were so many unanswered questions. The writers definitely could’ve done better.

And lastly, unless you have a lot of time to waste and want to get into something intense, you should watch it. You should also watch it if you wanna see some intense chemistry between the leads. It was sizzling.

Overall it was an alright drama. Just wish it had a tighter, sharper without so many plot holes and unnecessary scenes. I wouldn’t rewatch the whole drama but I might rewatch some of the scenes.

Hope y’all enjoy

Start this with open eyes!

This love story was doomed from the beginning, like Romeo and Juliet. The main leads are from different dynasties, one fighting against the other. I decided to watch this despite knowing it doesn't end well and it was really worth the ride. The chemistry between main leads is undeniable and they have so many cute moments. the story does jump all over the place and there isn't really conclusions to any of the main plots. It mainly revolves around the couple and their story with a few side couples thrown in. I really enjoyed this series and will watch my favourite parts again.

I left with Big Confusion.

I watched some clips of this drama in the YouTube .I like it .
So I had decided to watch it.
I liked beginning of the story , I liked the chemistry between the leads . But after 24th episode , episodes were repeated . . Around 8 to 10 episodes were repeated .so I have to skip it till I get the 25th . Firstly I thought they uploaded by mistake. I thought due to repetition of episodes ,the drama consist of 90 episodes . But when I read it synopsis there mentioned the drama had ninety episodes . So some of the episodes they didn't upload . So I had skip the episode till I get the fresh episode . But I didn't understand the fresh episode, it confused me but I continued to watch it because I didn't see the clips which I watched in the YouTube . Then again after 62nd episode , I guess the episodes were repeated till 90th episodes and still I didn't see the few clip which I had seen in the YouTube. So it means though I completely watched the drama , but in real I didn't watch it completely . The ending part of the drama had shown they get separated with the promise that she will come back but she didn't returned and he got the dress which is full in blood and he thought she died . And drama over .
I left with big confusion. To clear my confusion I tried watching this drama in every websites where it uploaded but same problem everywhere . Who will clear my doubt .

The Legend of the Dragon Pearl Season 1, needs Season 2 desperately!!!!

I watched this on Amazon Prime, so only 62 Episodes. I had to list 90 here so that it would mark that I completed watching the show.

CAST: The actors were amazing. They all played their parts well.

I have noticed that the female leads are not strong and this is a global dilemma. Female leads should have stronger character.

ENDING: The ending is a no ending - It is not shown that the emperor killed the people that tried to assassinate Li Yihuan in the palace. Additionally, it not shown that the emperor full fill his promise to Li Yihuan.

Additionally, to show Li Yihuan died/murdered mysteriously in the last episode, which is about two episodes where the Prince of Ming saves Li Yihuan for the countless time with giving almost all of the last breath is simply ridiculous.

The ending just leaves you hanging. So it appears, that there should be a season 2.

Hence, Season 1 needs Season 2 to accompany it, with the same cast, same role. I hope the Li Yihuan is still alive, but has not cheated the emperor. I would like her to return mature, stronger. and still a bit care free and light.

I rated the show based on the ending because the ending of season 1 makes the show pointless to watch, it makes you feel that one has wasted their time watching the show and actors wasted their acting skills.

If anyone has information regarding whether there is a season 2, please let me know. I searched for season 2, but could not find anything.
