To be honest, there were a lot of criticisms directed at the drama in Chinese media. For instance, Lu Chen Xi wearing high heels at work, Zhuang Shu using his hands to touch his scrub, etc. Personally, I'm not too bothered about all these details. Of course, I wouldn't know if they were doing the right thing or not, but I'm not watching a medical drama to learn how a hospital operates, or to familiarise myself with operating procedures. I think it's ridiculous to expect 100% accuracy for such professional dramas, and I don't think it's fair to judge it like that.

Surgeons actually follows a pretty standard "format". You have the established specialist, perfect in every way, return from the US to work in his home country as our protagonist Zhuang Shu, the idealistic but highly-talented surgeon who is oblivious to everything outside of work as our heroine Lu Chen Xi, and other side characters whom you can find in practically every other medical drama. Some people call this the modern version of Nirvana in Fire, since Zhuang Shu, like Mei Chang Su, returned to seek vengeance on his enemies. I think the similarities pretty much stop there though (but I never finished NiF so I won't know).

The main plot isn't really prominent in the drama until the later stages. Surgeons actually focuses more on doctor-patient interactions. I don't think it's anything to shout about, but I think the script is pretty well-written in the sense that the dialogues were great. The characters were also designed well, none of them are completely evil, or completely good (other than LCX). Acting wise, I'm not too impressed with Jin Dong. I think he was serviceable, but he didn't come across as an elite surgeon. Imo, LCX is the true protagonist since she is the one who "changed" the most throughout the drama, from someone who is borderline annoying because of how stubborn and unmalleable she is to someone who is, well, a little more flexible and understanding. I was never a fan of Bai Bai He's acting because I think she's herself in every project she stars in, but she was good in this drama. LCX and her buddy Chen Shao Cong showed most growth in the drama (probably because they started out at lvl 0). CSC is freaking hilarious and I think Li Jia Hang played the role well. My favourite character is Yang Fan though. I think you just can't hate the character because Liu Yi Jun is so awesome with his portrayal. You can really see the difference in just acting and good acting when you watch dramas like Surgeons and In the Name of People. I was blown away by the veterans.

Also, kudos to the scriptwriter for making the female characters likeable and "aggressive". LCX and Yang Yu are just kickass when it comes to dealing with their boyfriends. LCX's responses when asked about ZS were so freaking funny as well. The two couples had good chemistry too. I think they did a good job with the romantic development in that it was a slow process but you can see how they come to like each other. Much better than other dramas where you have no idea why they are falling in love with each other, or the dramas where the main couple lacks chemistry so badly (yes, I'm talking about O2O).

In short, I think Surgeons is a good watch. It sort of faltered towards the end, but I think it's just me who's a little exhausted because of its length (44 episodes) and how frequently the episodes were aired. I was completely drawn in by the earlier episodes though and so I'd give it a 8.5. The drama is also rated 7.5 on Douban, slightly lower than what it should have been because of Bai Bai He's scandal.

This is probably one of my top 3 favorite series( the other 2 being Nirvana in fire and Eternal Love ). One of the most important reasons is that I am currently a medical student and this series provides everything I need - encouraging , inspiring. Jin Dong and Bai Bai He made a nice pair.
The other characters( Chen Shao Chong, Yang Yu and Prof Zhong) are also very adorable, meanwhile Prof.Xiu Min Qi is very irritating.

I always thought that Chinese are always a step behind Koreans in terms of MEDICAL DRAMA, but this series proved that Chinese are even better. It includes proper climax and most importantly, tragedies.
Though this series got many criticisms from medical perspective, this doesn’t deny the fact that it is a nice drama.

Li Xue( director of Nirvana in Fire, Disguiser and Battle of Changsha together with Kong shen) really didn’t disappoint me. I will always love and rememeber this series and the characters included.

Surgeons, Chinese drama to the chase of Koreans!
"Surgeons" is a Chinese medical drama that troubled the Koreans, a fact that Korean knows how to make good dramas, even more of the medical genre, but China has been showing growth in its productions, proof was "Surgeons", which came to show that not only Korean He understands medicine.
Obviously, "Surgeons" does not have that dramatic impact of the Korean versions because of the more conservative culture of China, however history is high, we have a story very well written by Zhu Zhu where at no time was there a loss of income in what Refers to arresting the attention of the viewer, in fact the drama involves a mystery and an investigation, can often be a bit annoying, but the direction of Xue Li suppressed this annoyance mixing medical scenes like surgical operations and parallel novels as well as administrative intrigues and Personal, not only protagonists but also adjuvants, in the end we end up seeing all the acting and participative cast within small stories but fundamental to set the whole context of the drama.
The cinematography and scenarios, are also the height, cutting-edge technology, medical training mannequins, shows that "Surgeons" did not save money in production, wanted to show their full potential. And they did it.
Soundtrack, well, here we have some divergences, China is still not very good of thinks the right melody for the scene to get emotionally correct. And we all know that a good soundtrack is fundamental to convey all the feeling that that particular scene presents. A pity, but nothing to hinder, is within the acceptable.
In general, the difference between this medical drama and Korean dramas of the same genre is the focus of the story. "Surgeons" focuses more on the medical-medical side, contrary to the Korean version focusing on the doctor-patient.
For those who are fans of medical dramas, this is an excellent suggestion!

The best thing about this series is there are no annoying love triangles. Yes, there are some that like the main character but they don't go and push themselves on to the main leads. Instead, I should say this is a mature love story (I mean, the main leads' age added together is almost 80). There is no unnecessary jealousy or misunderstanding but focuses more on their jobs and their relationship development instead of conflict.

The main characters are also not perfect. The main girl is very short tempered, haughty almost. You might hate her in the first half of the series but as someone who is also short-tempered, I fully understand her actions. And who doesn't want a bff like Chen Shao Cong?

There are some mistakes in the medical part but f*** that. I'm not watching this to learn to become a doctor.

The music is fine and doesn't bother me in any way.

I really enjoyed this drama. It was super addicting for me!! And now I'm absolutely in love with Bai Baihe!!

Story:
You can refer to the synopsis for the overall story so I won't repeat it here. But I loved how the plot was captivating and that there were a lot of patient stories that were incredibly touching and realistic, as well as a lot of problems dealing with morality and right vs wrong. Story was tight knit, and none of the characters were just simply black or white; all of the characters were gray. There was no one who was always right or always wrong and they show you multiple views of one problem and one character. Very well-written!! I would say the ending felt like it was just a teeny tiny bit rushed (I think they could have extended it for a few more episodes) but that's literally the only thing that I would be picky on if I had to be.

Acting/Cast:
Great acting by everyone!!! I had seen Jin Dong in Nirvana in Fire and The First Half of My Life prior to watching this drama so I knew he was a good actor. But I did not expect to completely fall in love with Bai Baihe!! She is a very natural actress, not stiff, not overdone but just right. Second leads and supporting actors were all great as well and portrayed their roles very nicely.

Music:
All the instrumentals were perfectly well fit for the mood. There's literally only one song with words (the ending song) so this drama relied a lot on instrumentals instead so I don't think there's really too much to say for the music but it definitely didn't distract you from the scene or anything.

Rewatch Value:
Definitely going to rewatch my favorite scenes, but probably not every single second. This drama is definitely kind of heavy at certain parts.

Overall:
Awesome, awesome drama!!! Would highly recommend. It's now one of my favorite dramas of all time.

Summary of story-line: A long story of delayed revenge. Sound familiar? Setting in the medical ivory towers in China, but could be anywhere. Procedural and light on romance that could have been much more smoldering.
Acting: The real standout were the leads - they had chemistry. The surrounding cast and stories were credible and supported the main story-line of revenge-love.
Music: no real winner for me. It did not get in the way.
RW: Not for a while - too many eps.
Overall: Good story that seemed rushed at the end, felt like the writers were told end here and they just scrambled to tie up. It ended the way it started with the OTP bickering. Wish the writers would have ended it with Xi bickering with Zhang, and he just walk over and kissed the hell out of her. This move would have startled her immensely and given the viewers a bit more of his smexy stares manifested into something besides a hug. Cdrama is getting better.

I love watching medical dramas but there's not a lot of good ones out there especially Asian ones. This has been one of my favorites since I finished it. There was so much growth with each of the characters towards the end of the series. The best part of this series is that they did really well on the fact that they were able to show how busy the hospitals are in China without it being crowded by the landslide accident. The doctors in the hospital were played so well and the politics were demonstrated really well throughout the series. Especially through going through the medical incident 30 years ago. They also made a great balance between the medical work and the romance. I felt that the end could have been longer as it made me feel like it was cut short .I would have liked to have seen more of the two main characters and how things played out with them.

44 Episodes too Long!

What a waste of time this was. The story was neither compelling nor interesting enough for 44 episodes. Turned out we got more of the same shots of bloody operating room scenes, nurses stations, patients, more nurses stations, doctors in white coats, and far too many medical terms to keep straight. And for the record, it was 45 episodes not 44 as the blurb says.

The acting was ok - even though the actors had very little to work with given that screen writing. There was really zero chemistry between the ML & FL. She was supremely annoying in the beginning, and when she finally calmed down, she became unappealing. The older actors did well and were very convincing in their roles. Fu Bo Wen could have been something other than apologetic and repenting all the time. As unnecessary as his character was, I found the ER doctor Chen Shao Cong to be the most amusing and his girlfriend to be cute and amusing as well.

So many holes! One minute mama is in a coma, the next she's walking around at home! What happened to Zhuang Shu's sister? She needed to come down from her high horse with a serious dose of reality! Why wasn't the hospital dean locked up for his misdeeds? And what happened to Chu Jun?

If the writers and director didn't waste so much time on meaningless scenes with heavy cello and violin music (what was that for anyway?) Maybe they could have developed the romantic relationships better - at least give us some couple time! What was that ending?! It was ridiculous and a bitter disappointment after investing 44 episodes of boring medical jargon.

What a dismal disappointment this was. I don't care for Bai Bah He - but I like Jin Dong.

Absolutely NO rewatch value for me - and the OST was a bust as well - too heavy on the cello and violins, and they did very little to enhance the scenes. Whoever did the clothing needs to go back to design school too,

If you're looking for romance, this one isn't it. If you're looking for a riveting story, sorry, this one isn't it either. IF you like to pick apart the accuracy of the medical lingo and procedures, have at it. There isn't much else to recommend this one!

Main leads are wonderful and have a real relationship. Good foundation and no cliches

I loved the main leads and their relationship. Truly. The story is interesting and the plot has a good base for its development. Very enjoyable and one is able to get regular satisfaction from the story development without long waiting periods. Has good pacing with particular praise for the first half of the drama.

In spite of the somewhat weak medical facts/plot, usual in C Dramas, and a few situations that were either overdramatic with a violin playing in the background, or didn't make much sense, I really loved this drama with its real human characters with both qualities and flaws. Only one character is evil, however, its presence is minimal and only towards the final. In the last episode, they try to rescue his character in a silly way. The last episode actually is pretty much meh... but since I really enjoyed this drama I still rate it a 10.

The story is good, follows well. but the ending.... I also thought there's ep 45 but NOT.
I just don't understand why they rushed in the last ep lol it seems like they got to ep 44 and the director just goes "alright wrap up!!"
I dont normally like medical drama but the Leads has really good chemistry so it was pleasant to watch.
besides the ending all the characters are pretty good especially the female lead, this is the first drama I've seen her in and she made a very good first impression.
over all its a good drama to watch.
