It's Extremely Good

This k-drama is one of the best school romance k-dramas I've watched so far.

The plot line is just extremely good. I don't how to describe it, but it's the best 'rebel the school rules' plot. I don't think there's any SLS. Yippee! All the characters have the same chance to appear in the drama. The suspense and romance are kind of balanced. The actors displayed the emotions for the drama perfectly. I truly felt that I was in the drama. The only downfall is that I didn't get to see Oh Sa Rang's relationship. I really wanted to see who she'd end up with. I guess we just have to "patiently" wait for season 2. If there is going to be one. The ending is portrayed beautifully. The last words of the narration kinda sounds like it came from a wise old man. I really don't know about the music. I can't remember what music was in the k-drama. So that's why I put 1 in the music rating. So people who're considering to watch it. Watch it. It's literally the best k-drama.

Entertaining

This drama was thoroughly entertaining to me specially in the first half !

It got a little boring when the FL and her stupid pride started acting up ! Other than that it was quite fast paced ! People might think that it should have had more of incidents , but I feel that from high schoolers perspective it was pretty much awesome . They dint made him into a hero , that was the beauty about it ! One thing I dint like was there were so many students cribbing about life , when they haven't even actually faced anything and that they were glamorising not studying . I mean its okay you have dreams , but you still need to be educated ! The FL doesn't studies , but cribs about being a 6 tier student , I couldn't swallow that

To be honest I actually enjoyed all the male characters , even the principal , teachers and students like dad hwi, heechan and taewoon ! But female characters seem to be a bit unruly and unorganised ! Dae Hwi's girlfriend lied so much still wanted to be understood , without facing the consequences . FL was always asking for favours from ML , like buying her lunch , giving her a ride , but then suddenly her pride starts acting up , after he confesses to her , she doesn't wants to understand him and gets through it without even apologising ! Then FLs best friend , she acts up that FL dint tell her secrets , but when she told her , she started blaming taewoon for nothing to justify her being disloyal !

All in all , its a good try ! I won't say a must watch though !

love it!

i don't know why but this drama is the only version in the "School" series that i can actually watch from the start till the end. the chemistry of the main couple is off the charts, no kidding at all! their acting and interactions both in the drama as well as in BTS videos is incredibly cute! i keep smiling watching them lol!
the plot can be a little off, like, not as complicated and intense as the first two versions but it has its own charm. I swear!
the relationships between different characters in the drama is naturally developed and in all the actors just portray such a cute yet still down-to-earth story.
highly recommend!

Good promise weird drama

The plot and the promise are really good, but got a little weird on action. I personally loved the first episodes, that had a lot of mistery and funny moments that got me all hooked up and excited for more. But eventually i got really bored and dissapointed with the way they dealed with the romance and the main characters. The mistery was totally left aside and the big reveal was just a huge mess. They really could developed that better since it was the main plot of the drama and it had a lot of potencial. The acting in general is really good and the main romance got me distracted and was really cute, even tho we get a little bit of second lead syndrome with Jang Dong Yoon catfishing us with his confused feelings. Not as good as the other dramas of the School series, School 2017 is a light drama you can easily bingle watch and will definitely provoke good laughter

The lead's chemistry had me convinced that they had feelings in real life.

Plot: Ummm, very teenager-ish plot. Apart from ML and FL falling in love, I could not care about anything else that was happening.
Watch it if you’re in the mood for: A teenage, school romance between a cocky, testosterone fuelled bad-boy (who is actually really good at heart) and a sweet, naive girl (who still has some spine and brains). What’s different is that both the leads communicate very well with each other throughout the series and never give a single moment of “gah-this-can-be-solved-if-you-two-just-DM-each-other’. Their chemistry is on fire, gave me a lot of feels and I was convinced that they liked each other for real.

Why I liked it:
*CHEMISTRY: The ML and FL had crazy physical chemistry. It is a testimony to their chemistry that even though they did not have a single lip lock in the entire series, they gave me more butterflies in the stomach than a lot of other romance series with a lot of skin ship. I always say, the romance is in the little details and the body language. Few scenes which got to me:
* When a sidey character hits the FL, the pent up aggression shown by the ML while bandaging her wounds (whooh).
* When he is pissed that she is turning down his proposal, banging his head against the almirah
* Mouthing silently “She is my girlfriend” through lips while introducing her to his mother’s grave
I so liked their chemistry that I watched a lot of BTS videos.
*MALE LEAD (Kim Jung-Hyun): The ML had a lot of screen presence, and he nailed the cocky characterisation of a teenage boy. Indifferent and vulnerable at the same time.
Korean MLs are mostly too feminine for me: They are pastel white, show no traces of facial hair, are almost never beefed up and have baby-like skin. Only their deep voices and strong jaws are a saving grace. In a country where all males enlist in the army, why are their beauty standards for men so feminine? Curious philosophical question :)
Anyhoo, this ML is not at all feminine looking, he always had traces of facial hair. Frankly his chapped lips in a few episodes were so hot to me.
*FEMALE LEAD (Kim Se-Jeong): A good FL is core to any romance. While viewers like me who are trying to get romance vicariously swoon over the ML, I am very cognizant that its the FL who has to work equally together to get the right sparks on screen. I really liked the FL. She seemed quite chill, her smile got to me too :D, so no wonder the ML fell for her.

My recommendation: Watch it folks. It’s an investment of 16 + hours in pure fluffy feels and it’s on Netflix!

School has done it again

School 2017 is a top tier high school drama which has it all. Romance, mystery, deep themes, comedy and more.
Each character is deeply thought out (the scene where the school records are exposed proves it), from the smallest the biggest character i was in love with them all (even the horrible ones) .
The FL is a great actor and played her part well the only downside was the whining but half way through the season it seems to cut out completely, she fights for justice and cares deeply about those around her but is not a push over.
The ML is a whole new level, I love the actor and he brings the character to life, there is not one part of him i dislike.
The ROMANCE is incredible because 1. there is no love triangle 2. They become best friends FIRST 3. There is good communication. It is frustrating, it shows how messed up the school system is when there is corruption and rich against poor it conveys a powerful message if you give it a chance
Others compare this drama to school 2013 and Who are you 2015 but you really shouldn't. This drama did not disappoint me one bit and it is a HIGH rewatch for me. I don't usually hand out 9s or 10s willy nilly so this is a genuine review. Go watch it, for a highschool drama it is done extremely well

A-bit-of-something-going-on type of light drama

I didn't think I would enjoy this drama as much as I did. In fact, when I started it I asked around if it was worth it because ep 1 didn't really catch my attention. However, I'm very glad I sticked to the end.

Even though it is true that this school is unrealistically mean and ridiculous things happen all the time (by the adults), I (generally) liked the way the characters handled every issue because they acted like teenagers, not too young but also not too old or mature. I liked the friendships formed through the drama, the makeups, the clarified misunderstandings and how they showed that friendships can hurt and friends can resent each other, but the important thing is to know when and how to forgive and trust each other.

I loved Tae Woon and Eun Ho's characters individually and together. Tae Woon is an explosive, yet very introspective guy who's hurt by society (as every other kid in this school) and who just wants to protect his girl no matter what. I loved how he held himself back several times just because she asked him to and wanted to help him become his better version. The character improvement he showed may not have been the most drastic one since he wasn't that bad from the beginning, but there is still some very important personal improvements, particularly with Dae Hwi and how he learned to open up to other people and love his father. Throughout the entire drama I just really wanted to hug him and protect him at all costs.

Eun Ho is one of my favorite teenage drama characters. She was strong, sometimes cold-headed when needed, but also reactive if the time came. She may not have been studious, but she was smart and knew her place and value in life; she loved her family, had a clear dream, a boyfriend she loved and friends she cared about and would protect all that even if she put herself in danger, which may be typical but she actually did it all. I didn't like that she was kind of nosy sometimes and that's what actually got her in trouble, though, but that was the essence of her character.

Their relationship was one of the purest I've seen in a while and I think it was perfectly paced and projected for high school kids. They never rushed anything, they were nervous around each other when they started, yet they trusted each other, were sincere, straightforward and never let misunderstandings grow too big in their way. I definitely loved how they'd care so much for each other and not just the other as a person, but the dreams and future. They were very mature considering everything they went through together, and they handled their hardships the best way they could. The way their relationship was developed is probably my favorite thing of this drama, since they did act like high school kids in a balanced way, not too cringey, but not like immature kids that didn't know what they wanted in life. It was just really pure and endearing.

My perspective of Song Dae Hwi changed throughout the drama a lot because I started off being okay with him, then hated him, but ended up just absolutely loving him and hoping the best for him. I loved that he was The Smart guy, and even though he made some mistakes, he learned from them and apologized and became his better self. At the end of the day, he was just another one of the many victims of the stupidly high standards that this school and society had. I loved how her realized everything with Nam Joo and started to protect her after he had hurt her that much. The scenes with Tae Woon were absolutely exciting and their makeup was probably one of the highlights of the drama. Although I wanted them to break the sexual tension and just kiss already. /jk

Supporting characters were really cool, both the good ones and the bad ones, they contributed to the plot as much as they needed and never felt like simple extras but part of the actual plot.

Eun Ho's family is my favorite of all time. They were the most supportive I've ever seen in a drama (or at least in a while), and seeing how they scolded Eun Ho for behaving like the teenager she was, yet they protected her and showed her how much they loved her was just so endearing and beautiful to see. I'm watching True Beauty right now too and the difference is just... abysmal.

On another note, I didn't like how ep 16 unfolded because I feel like they unnecessarily rushed things to wrap everything up in a good note, especially how quick and dumb was the breaking point for Tae Woon's dad to realize how much he had been hurting his kid and apologize and just randomly decide to live a quieter life in the countryside and be a better guy. I mean, not complaining that my baby Tae Woon got a loving father now, but he had been acting like the worst adult ever just in eps 14-15 and suddenly after the policewoman told him what Tae Woon said and how he felt, now they father wants to be a good one? Okay, I guess...

Anyway, I wouldn't say this drama is perfect but it definitely has a lot of highlights and things that make it a worth-watching drama and a memorable one. It did have sloppy writing at some point, leaving many characters that were directly or somehow related to the main characters to be forgotten for episodes (Sa Rang, the mean girls, Byung Goo, Seo Jihoon's character, Issue, Nam Joo, etc) or just forgotten forever (Dae Hwi's mom, the other cleaning ladies), but I would totally recommend it to anyone who wants to watch a light drama that may make you stressed at some point, but which will definitely leave you with a good feeling of fullfument on you if you're into school dramas and romcoms with a bit of something going on.

A feelgood, fun show, but that's all!

It was nothing special, to be honest. Sure, there was some really good storyline, the whole X story was good and most characters were great too, but that's all. It doesn't want to be more than it is, and that sometimes isn't a bad thing, but if you include bullying, fraud and other important storylines, you have to do something with them. Honestly, the only story that was well written is the X story. They didn't do much with the bullying girls, for example. I liked that some bullies, like Bo Ra's friend, wasn't that bad, but still, I don't like that basically no one got the well deserved punishment. Poor girl had to endure so many sh*t and every bully just moved on? Why, because nobody cared. The policewoman was just there for romance purpose, basically. Also, the accident with the bus was really bad. I mean, everyone looked like if they crashed with a truck. Not to mention, when the girls were fighting, they didn't do much, and still they looked like MMA fighters after a match.? Lastly, I was a bit surprised that there wasn't a single kiss scene. I mean, I get that 18-year-olds maybe don't want to kiss, but what about the adults! They acted like teens, too.

Other than that, this is a good show, Eun Ho and Tae Woon were really great together, not a typical couple for sure.
Sejeong's obviously stole the whole show, and her aegyo is legendary for a reason.?

Like I said, it's nothing special, but still worth watching it. Sometimes it feels good to watch a random show that turns off your brain for 16 hours.

I didn't watch this earlier because I don't like drama that contains bullying especially in high school but I decided to just give this a try since I have seen many clips of Tae Won and Eun Ho. I was really happy with this drama because there was a lot of scenes that would make one laugh and also think very hard. I binged this drama and I didn't skip any episode because there was no boring episode, story was flowing well and the actors did a really good acting. I wanted more justice done to some group of student but even though that didn't happen I am still very satisfied with this drama. It makes me miss high school so much and It's impossible to go back which makes me more sad. But no matter what this is a very interesting drama.

I'd been wanting to watch this for a long time, just from seeing clips—and I've never seen any other School drama. I was really just in the mood for something wholesome and in a school setting, and this definitely accomplished that.

I loved the main leads a lot, and I'd been looking for dramas with this kind of bantering relationship (kind of like Weightlifting Fairy) but this is only the second one I found. I loved the chemistry through, and though I expected a love triangle with the way Dae Hwi was filmed in the beginning, I was pleasantly surprised that there wasn't one. I also liked that there wasn't a lot of unnecessary drama, miscommunications, and misunderstandings between them—there was one, which annoyed me—but other than that, they were always really open with each other.

Individually, they were great characters as well. Eun Ho was a really strong female character, and I loved that she always stood up for herself. Tae Woon made my heart melt with all the little things he did. Bo Ra was another character who I loved; even though she definitely pissed me off in the beginning, her character development was so good and I loved her after it.

Sadly though, I'm a little unsatisfied with the ending, and even though it's not sad, exactly, it was still a little bittersweet to me Firstly, the character development for some side characters (like the chairman) seemed a little rushed. Secondly, I wish there was a bigger scene where the students of the school were more united against the corruption. And I wish there was more closure for some of the other bad characters, who I felt never got the bad karma they deserved.

Ep 1 When I saw these mean-looking guys walking around with thick wooden sticks I thought at first I'd pressed the wrong button and this was a prison drama, but no, it was School 2017. So anyone still in hi-school should probably give K. a miss. Eun Ho character especially good, Kim Se Jung has vitality and looks and so far the best storyline. From ep.3 whew this is drawing me in, not just the usual hi school tropes. Tae Woon becoming much more interesting as a character beneath that boorish exterior, but the sensitive Dae Hwi driven to crisis of values is an important character in a different way. The principal with the gorgon glare who looks like a cross between a pit bull and a vampire but with brain of Daffy Duck is hilarious, while the idealistic young teacher (Han Joo Wan) is attractive. This is really cutting to the heart of some important themes as outlined in the reviews. It stretches believability that such corruption really operates in schools, but it does in business organisations, so are school administrations any different? TBH I find some of the romance verging on soppiness but I suppose that's what the audience likes. The other weak spot in the story, which a lot of the plot centres around to keep the story going, is Eun Ho's relentless self-sacrificing mindset which in the real world would appear nothing short of masochism to the point of being abnormal. For this reason I liked her at the start but my interested faded. The boys, on the other hand, grew in my estimation. Others have commented on the totally unrealistic nature of the story. But if you come to a fictional drama, you have to suspend disbelief, don't you? Whether you are willing to invest time in doing so for any given drama is a matter of your particular taste. I don't think it's in any sense a spoiler (because this is so predictable) to say that as usual with even good dramas the ending is what in my universe I term a "flop" - a neatly-wrapped sentimental package. Can't go into detail unfortunately. Music jolly, typical school drama, nothing special. Will re-watch to catch some of the strands possibly missed in the opening episodes (which seemed a struggle) but for me the interest ends at the penultimate episode.

Completely Dreadful

As you can tell from the heading and overall score, you can probably tell that this is going to be a negative and critical review. Please bear with me~

Regarding the story, I felt like it was just a basic high school story of "the rich bad boy falls in love with the poor hard working girl" trope. The only thing that made me raise the score a teeny bit was the side romances, the soundtrack, the fact that it actually had a real plot (the X student) going on.

The thing that made this drama really bad was the cast and characters. Let's talk about character first. I've never seen so many characters with such bad development. Literally every person in this show is a jerk. Starting with Eun Ho--she is literally the worst friend I have ever seen. I am a strong believer that one should pick best friends over boyfriends, and she did the exact opposite. In the first few episodes, she was always seen talking with her best friend, but once she got a boyfriend, there was 0 seconds of screen time showing their interaction anymore. It's like she forgot she even had a best friend. She never even tried to understand her friend a tiny bit. Second, Hyun Tae Woon was the worst of them all. He was obsessive, abusive, selfish and the biggest jerk with a hero syndrome. Everyone else was either too funny or not funny at all, but they are not as bad as the main leads so I won't mention them. Moving on to the cast, I came for Sejeong but stayed for Han Sun Hwa and Seorina. The acting wasn't bad on anyone's part, but it wasn't enjoyable either. Whoever casted them did a really bad job with the leads but okay with the side characters. Casting Kim Jung Hyun was a big mistake because he looks 20 years older than the average 18-year old student. Lee Jong Won (Taewoon's dad) also looks too young and too indifferent; he doesn't quite get the "bad" character concept past. Sejeong was alright - as in this wasn't her best work as she was just a rookie at this time. I also don't get the point of adding Rowoon; I feel like they just did that to attract more attention to the drama because his character had absolutely no value to the story. The rest of the cast was either acceptable or great (Sun Hwa and Seorina).

Overall, I would NOT recommend this drama.
