Took a day to finish the drama. It was pretty good, like if you had nothing to do for a day and want to watch something this is recommended. The drama is pretty cute and the same time serious. Couples in it were compatible and had chemistry.

Story: The story was definitely planned with details and had me interested every episode. I get why people say it’s similar to W but the story is more lighter and isn’t as melodramatic as it. Also the drama is geered towards friendship as well as romance.

Acting/Cast: The cast were all pretty good looking and the acting was decent. So not very perfect but definitely not cringey. The males in the cast were handsome and some looked even better with time. The main couple were very sweet but natural in their romance so there wasn’t any yucky feeling about it.

Music: It wasn’t annoying and was light/flowly. Basically a sweet voice singing a somewhat sad song is the best way I can describe it.

Rewatch Value: I would definitely rewatch as a light drama with some crying.

While the drama plot is nothing to write home about, the acting was superb. Austin Lin has always been a strong actor who can bring any character to life. In this romantic comedy, he continued his awesome performance as the opportunistic He Jie. He switched effortless between a dashing prince charming to a lovable mischief-maker. But he isn't the only one in the show who can act. I was pleasantly surprised by how great the leading lady was as well. Lin Hao Fei's Lu Zi Xing was the right balance of cunning and vulnerable. The unshed tears pooling in her eyes was enough to make me want to hug her and tell her, "Don't be sad, baby girl. Everything is going to be alright in the end." Then there is the bromance. I was torn between wanting Gong Cheng to stay away from that no good He Jie and wanting them to be the best-est buddies in the whole wide world. Huang Jun Jie's Gong Cheng was so cute when he was being strait-laced, doubly adorable when he was clueless to Pei En Cai's flirting and needed He Jie to decode it for him. Of course, I can't forget about He Jie and Logic. Shh. Their interactions are hilarious in a very different way. He Jie constantly complained to Logic about the rules of the manga world. Logic, then, dissed him for drawing a brain-dead manga with gazillion plot holes. The drama "Unexpected" made me laugh so hard.

This show is so underrated but to be fair, this story line is overused; it's basically a twist of any parallel universe drama but it's the Chinese version of the Korean drama "W" except better. I personally could not get with "W" so coming in to watch this I was like "here we go again" but honestly everything about this show makes it completely different.

You have the manga love story that was made by Austin (Who is a great actor by the way) he plays such a strong character in his emotions and facial expressions that I was not disappointed at all. First I was a little put off about the older guy, younger woman and vice versa but it really does play out because the chemistry between Austin and Li Hao Fei is wonderful and they click and it's my first time seeing her in anything but I love her emotions and ability to play this strong character basically. Having Huang Jin and U.Lin together was just nice and clicky too and I overall really liked the twist and turns of the show. There were things that were predictable but also at the same time it was not at all.

It's such a nice and easy watch that you'll keep going and watching because it's show anyway so you just keep going and going which is completely awesome because I like easy going shows. The drama was not over the top but just enough. Overall, this is definitely a good show. Some parts can be dumb and you'll be like meep, but most of it, you'll just keep watching it because it's an easy binge worthy day show you can finish in a couple of hours honestly.

I really liked this drama. If you loved watching fantasy dramas then this is for you. Talking bout the story ,then in starting it is quite difficult to understand that what's going on but as soon as you reach to the more episodes than you came to know the answer of your doubts. I personally haven't watched this type of drama so I definitely liked this drama. Usually some of the chinesedrama which I know is all about love but I found this different.
Let's move on to cast , Austin Lin ( He jei) has done the superb job . Other cast was quit nice and the chemistry between the four actors and also their friendship is on high level. The other supporting ast was also done the amazing job.
I will definitely recommend you guys this drama.
Love from India❤️

Happy ending

I like that this has a happy ending albeit a bit confusing. He remembered everything after just seeing the flower?? But why was he back? What is his mission? Is it just to be with LZX? Maybe. At least, they are happy together now.

Back in the reality world, is that SZX from the comic or just someone who looks like him?

All in all, the cast did a good job. They made me laugh especially the interaction with GC and PEC, how clueless he was! :) The sad parts made me tear up especially what happened to BL.

Will I rewatch? No but I enjoyed it enough that I finished in 2 days.

Creativity, imagination, love, comedy, and more imagination

This is the drama that every writer should watch, it’s amazing, the dream of all writer: to be inside your own history. Of course, with the troubles that this brings.

If you want to watch a drama with unexpected twist in the plot, go ahead this is your drama.

I loved every episode, every turn of the plot, because this drama does have an unexpected twist. The only thing that I didn’t like was the final, I didn’t understand it, and it was really forced with the memory lost of He Jie.

The romance...

We have here two couples:

He Jie and Lu Zi Xing are a couple that you want to happen since episode 1, they have an amazing chemistry, and all the twist plot is so well built. It’s really cute how Lu Zi Xing love grows up, although He Jie is so confusing at times.

Gong Cheng and Pei En Cai. You can fall in love with this second lead couple, the story inside the story, even when they mean to be together, it is not easy for them, the attitude of Gong Cheng through every episode is sweet.

Would I re-watch it? no, but is not a bad drama

An Unexpected Discovery

I stumbled over this drama and casually downloaded it to watch out of boredom. It was nothing I expected it to be, very unexpected.
This is a drama you could binge watch and over and over again.
Watched it over a year ago and I still feel the sweet aftertaste feeling from watching it.
Loved it.
It's about a manga artist entering the world of his manga. One thing that hit the bull's eye for me about the drama was that writers always portray their characters —most especially the main characters unrealistically and with a lot of loop holes in their family background, personality and so on without putting ones self in their shoes.
As a writer, this taught me a whole lot of things about how I view my fictional characters.

Rewatch value: 7.5
It's an huge Go Ahead from me!!!

Refreshing Story Couldn't Save It

I began watching Unexpected after watching The Romance of Tiger and Rose. There are a surprising amount of isekai dramas out there but something about Unexpected, despite the somewhat mediocre rating for a c-drama, piqued my interest. After discovering the joy of isekai dramas, I scoured MDL to find the perfect follow up to The Romance of Tiger and Rose, and I didn't find many male protagonists so Unexpected really stood out to me.

I really enjoyed the first ten or so episodes. Learning how the manga world worked was thrilling. The bond between He Jie and Lu Zu Xing was believable and heartwarming, considering they started out as bitter enemies, but then out of nowhere, it became so melodramatic, and it almost felt like they were adding plotlines to the story just to make it to episode 23. The show could've cut at least five episodes and I would have considered this a much cleaner story.

Don't get me wrong, the story was still pretty refreshing. The drama does a great job in creating opportunities for character growth within the manga concept, in ways you never would have considered, even for incredibly minor characters. For example, in an attempt to convince someone that they live in a manga world, one character (can't remember who) brings to the local noodle shop owner's attention that despite the popularity of the restaurant, she has never increased her noodle prices. Cue existential crisis for the shop owner.

But the heavier the story became, the less charm it had. Self sacrifice seemed to be the name of the game, which automatically knocked a few points off my rating. I don't mind when this trope makes an appearance but every character in this show seemed to just love to willingly fling themselves into danger without consulting their loved ones.

I would love to see this drama remade because as I said, the plotlines were incredibly refreshing and innovative. But I really slogged through the last third of the drama. I'm telling you, at one point, Viki's subs weren't working so I had to watch an entire episode without subs. The fact that I was still able to catch up in the next episode with no problem is either a testament to my Chinese skills (lol I wish) or how much filler was in this show.

Unexpectedly good

8.5/10 is my rating. This is a 2018 Chinese drama with 24 episodes that are 45 minutes long.

He Xie (Lin Bo-Hong) has a hit manhua entitled “Crystal Love”. Over time his control of his own creation is fading as he fails to come up with new content. His publisher is on the verge of having other authors publish stories under the title when He Xie is involved in a car accident under a billboard of the villian Lu Zixing, (Li Hao Fei) from his manhwa which results in him being sucked in to the story. He finds out that he must turn the evil villainess around and plug the many plot holes in his story in order to return to the real world. Lu Zixing likes the male lead of the manhwa, Gong Cheng (Huang Jun jie), and to change the end and the characters, He Xie must keep Lu Zixing away from Gong Chen so the romantic interest, Pei Encai (Huang Yi Lin) can win Gong Chen’s love. He Xie forms friendships and falls in love in this world of his making but finds there are consequences to staying.

Spoiler 🚨 I unexpectedly liked this more than I thought I would. I am not a huge C Drama fan because I find many of the female leads to be kind of whiny and needy. For me that was the Pei Encai character - she had some moments where she was okay but most of the time, I just found her behavior irritating. Not the same for Lu Zixing she was spirited and took action when it was needed. I would have loved to see her together with Gong Cheng because he was so sweet that I could see the two personalities balancing each other well. I found the premise to be really unique and it held my interest to see how things would resolve and develop. I liked the friendships that formed and thought all of the characters were really well developed. It ended well - I like when things are "wrapped up" but I did not completely understand what had changed enough for him to stay. But I liked that he was able to stay and it did not end leaving you hanging or on a note of sadness. For a Cdrama it is one of the best modern I have seen and I would recommend it. I still prefer Kdrama though so it rates below the best Kdramas I have seen for me.

nice idea but seems too messy

note: even tho i rated this a 7 its a low 7

ok so ive been trying to end the summer with a good drama but no this is not the one i have to admit i dont rlly like this type of drama if u know(?)
ok back to main point... ok so this feels like a 45 episode drama fitted into a 23-24 one i have to say nothing rlly gets resolved because everytime they try to reslove they ad a new problem hence making this drama rlly messy and no way of actually solving the problems now if u like the idea of this drama like getting stuck in another world u may wanna watch the "romance of tiger and rose" instead there are too many stuff happening at the same time which messes with the timing and how will it be resolved its too much to handle too much pressure.... i originally wanted to find either a ceo simple and cute drama or a historical simple cute drama but the ones i want to watch either arent fully out yet or hasnt aired like truth or dare, the blooms at ruyi pavilion and in a class of her own, count ur lucky stars and a bunch of others but bc of school its too hard to focus on both......anyway there are too many loopholes and fillers and too much like i said if u want a simple and non pressure giving drama dont watch this drama i feel like if i could choose again i would pass this drama and i originally wanted to drop this but of course i gave it its chance ..... i decided to drop this at 18 the scene where the ml came and saw that the fl has the pen i rlly am just stressed put and i cant hold on to this drama any longer it gives too much weight add on rn i just cant continue anymore...
