7/10 - This was odd, but it worked out.

It was a very interesting choice to break this up. We're left at the end of episode 4 thinking that Mi Rae had decided to support Hye Seong and ambush Kyung Suk with a meet up. However, this episode immediately picks up with Mi Rae and Hyun Jung walking home. Mi Rae spots a stalker and pursues him. While smart Hyun Jung calls the cops. Soon after Mi Rae's father shows up at the station. It's all revealed that he decides to pay for Mi Rae's surgery, and he's also been following her home at night to make sure she's safe. All adorable and all kind of crazy. It works though. As her dad still can't accept her face.

Then boom we're back with Mi Rae facing off with Kyung Suk. She's butting in and he doens't like it, but she's sharing her story. So he understands where she's coming from. Thank the dramas she didn't ambush him and betray his trust!! This is a drama trope I have always hated. Instead they talk and bond. It's so moving. Friendship and trust blossoming. *tossing rose petals in air*

It was also adorable watching Kyung Suk worry about a tipsy Mi Rae. I truly wonder is it true you have to drink more to build up a tolerance? I feel like that's not true. I'm a lightweight and I think my tolerance has only gone down hill. Either way it's so cute! Dangerous, but cute.

The other main focus is who the seniors in the chemistry department treat all of the girls. From fat shaming, age, beauty ratings and so on. It's cruel to see them talking so frankly about them like that. Like objects that they're picking of the shelves, but nothing is just so and they want more-more. To see the girls discomfort and need to protest. But they can't as these men sexualize, judge, and put them in their place. Women should serve the food. It's a woman's place. Tradition. The epitome is when the "uniforms" for the fair come and every girl is uncomfortable with them.

It's a familiar scene. Also, it's a familiar reaction from women. I get it. While I am the loud protester who's first instincts are to bring that jerk down, I've been institutions where you have to swallow your words until you can deal with it later. Now that Mi Rae is interacting with others she's noticing that these women she thinks are beautiful are being judged and harassed. That it's happening to everyone.

I am impressed that My ID is Gangnam Beauty is delving deeper. It's not just the surface of a girl who was once a ugly, but now beautiful. We're addressing judgements that all women face and are judged with. I'm curious and hopeful that we'll get to see another side to Kyung Suk's mom.
