Kim Ji suk at his best!! LOVED the ending!!
Never thought this cliche drama will grow on me after every episode I would watch.Kim ji suk as Top star! well he really seems like a real top star.
His character as Yoo Baek is wounded soul who is bitter and rude to everyone around him. Yoo baek is send to a remote island when he is involved in a scandal. Without the comfort and amenities of city life, Yoo beak starts to adjust to island life. And then his character slowly learns the values of life because of people on the island. Cold Yoo baek becomes most warm-hearted person you can ever imagine.
What seemed an annoying accent of FL in first episodes, in later episodes, I found myself saying it's cute. Jeon So Min was cute as Oh Kang soon. She really seems like island girl. Oh Kang soon is a diver girl who changes Yoo baek's life through her warm-hearted personality.
The leads delivered awesome chemistry after ep.7. Last 3 eps were Gold.
Ma dol is so cute. I loved how his story ended.
I loved every single character in the series. EVERYONE!
DON'T DROP THIS DRAMA! You can fast forward the parts you won't like, but this show takes grip after ep.6.
Music is AWESOME!! I loved how they reignited old songs.
Last 3-4 eps. are definitely REwatch!

Jeon So-min is a good actress. I've been watching her in Running Man and she's a good entertainer too. The character Oh Kang Soon really suited her, I can't think of any other actress that can pull this character off.
Kim Ji Suk is good as always, no doubt about that. I kind of have the second lead syndrome because of Lee Sang Yeob, maybe because of that RM episode wherein So Min was flirting with him. But well, they're family now. Lol.
The people in the island are funny too. Anyway, this drama is worth watching.

Pantomime, Korean style
From time to time, I’ve made remake like “your mileage will differ” in my reviews and it applies doubly to this Show.The reason being the Show amps up certain aspects of various genres like a pantomime. It has over the top characters, barely there plots, questionable logic and even a dose of magic/superpowers. Yes, it is a mashup that can do your head in, or it can be a lot of fun. It really depends on what you are looking for and your tolerance of this style of production.
Without spoilers, it is a fish out of water type tale with both leads finding out what life is like outside of their respective "bubbles”, and what bubbles they are! One is a superstar with a troubled upbringing and a basic distrust and distain for people while the other is a country bumkin (their words) who lives on a tiny island lost in time (the 80/90’s).
Of course, romance is a foregone conclusion once the initial push-pull is over. It is this romantic thread that tied the show together. Without it, it is just a bunch of weird subplots, standing jokes and crass humour. Because of this. the storylines and cast of characters probably will resonate much more with the local audience rather than an international one. Speaking of the cast, some of the roles are so exaggerated that they are caricatures. I’m sure the older cast members had a blast playing those roles. I almost half expecting them to break the fourth wall and give us a wink. Both leads put in solid performances.
My only real gripe (other than the overuse of toilet humour) is the application of the misunderstanding/noble idiot trope around the 2/3 mark. It was the only real angst in an otherwise swoon-y love line. It was resolved satisfactorily within a couple of episodes, but it felt heavy-handed while it runs its course.
Production and OST are both fine. Rewatch is possible but a liberal application of the skip button is probably a good idea when it comes to some of the banalities and silly side plots. The last episode is worthy of a rewatch.
In the end, it is a harmless and mostly enjoyable romp for me. Some may love and laud it while others will disagree strongly. Individual taste will be the ultimate test in this case and (wait for it....) your mileage will differ. :D

Nice drama, with has a little vintage vibe
A nice drama set on an island, somewhere old-fashion (ajumma costumes, a lot of old songs, etc.).PLOT: The ML, star with scandal, is exiled to a remote island, far from the paparazzi and social networks. Completely out of his world, he will become familiar with the inhabitants, and meet the FL, a rustic and old-fashion girl.
PROS:
+ An excellent role for Kim Ji Seok, which allows him to show his charm and talent (ღˇ◡ˇ)♥
+ endearing characters, without villains, just human.
+ awesome OSTs (Korean hits from the 80s?)
CONS:
- I'm not always convinced by the character of the FL, naive, excessively nice, and poorly styled :(
- certain characters are only there to lighten the atmosphere (actor, doctor/teacher couple) but their comedy is exaggerated and annoying.
=> To watch once (no more, even Kim Ji Seok is really handsome) and not to be taken seriously.

Drama sympa, qui a un petit côté vintage (se situe sur une île, costumes, nombreuses chansons, etc.).
PLOT: Le ML, star avec scandale, est exilé sur une île reculée, loin des paparazzis et des réseaux. En complet décalage, il va se familiariser avec les habitants,et rencontrer la FL, rustique et old-fashion.
PROS:
+ Un excellent rôle pour Kim Ji Seok, qui lui permet de montrer son charme et son talent (ღˇ◡ˇ)♥
+ des personnages attachants, sans villain, juste humains.
+ des OST géniales (les tubes coréens des années 80 ?)
CONS:
- je ne suis pas toujours convaincue par le personnage de la FL, naïve, gentille à l'excès, et mal coiffée :(
- certains personnages ne sont là que pour alléger l'atmosphère (acteur, couple médecin / instituteur) mais leur comique est exagéré et agaçant.
=> A voir une fois (pas plus) et à ne pas prendre au sérieux.

my self-confidence's model
take episode 1, go strait to 3minutes 15 seconds, just watch the next 40 seconds.I watched this sequence like 100 times! when facing difficult times in 2020, I decided to act like a confident person, and intuitively, this scene became my model. and I felt soooo good acting like yoo baek! like, the world is crumbling down but you don't care, you do you! after watching the drama, I watched this scene again, knowing why he went crazy that night made me appreciate it even more.
why would you watch this?
1- the 1st episode is catching like hell. if you watched the scene I talked about earlier, you already know!
2- the story line is unique. a manager getting rid of his own star on a lost island, this is fun!
3- every aspect of the story is very well exploited. of course this is a comedy, but some personal issues are very well explained and processed.
4- despite the theme of the drama, the story is soothing. after all you are on a lost island, enjoy the place.
5- this drama has a high rewatch value! for me it's the best quality sign.
when watch this? there is no violence, no sex, the story is very adaptable to all audiences. it's a light story, watch this if you need to uplift your mood.

Deserve a watch
The drama start off pretty hilarious, kind of overdo the humour part at some point. However, it works. This drama is funny and also heartwarming at the same time. At the time this drama aired, the attention was taken by Sky Castle more. Sigh, Yoobaek deserve a watch too! One thing I did not understand is why it has 11 episodes only? Isn't Yoobaek mini drama that has at least 16 episodes..? Nevertheless, the pacing quite good. Every hour of an episode packed all the plots nicely. a healing drama + underrated gem
This drama was so healing that I couldn't help but rewatch a few of their episodes. Of course, there are few flaws in the series but let just say it gets interesting after the 4th episode. However, for me I enjoy every episodes of the series. This drama made me laugh, smile and cry a few times. The story delivered was so beautiful and I wish it had 12 episodes instead of 11 but I like that they could still wrap it up nicely. Somin and Ji Suk brought the best on their characters. Their chemistry throughout the drama was hella cute. This drama is a really underrated gem. <3Was this review helpful to you?
