cute little thing

If you are into slow pace romance then this drama is for you. I am not at all fan of slow pace so i think this drama could have end in 24 episodes.

Development in story is good, especially development in FL character. What you would like in this drama are dialogues , writer has done great job.

If we talk about acting part this is edward lai's first drama. His acting is ok. Sometimes it looks plastic but when there are cute moments he has done better job. Angel zhao's acting is truly adorable.

If you are going to try this drama, definitely try it.

remake of the THAILAND hit movie/film Crazy Little Thing Called Love (2010)

*** Spoiler Alert (PERSONAL FEEDBACK)
Title : A Little Thing Called First Love – 2019 (Complete 36 Episode)
Personal Rating : 7.5/10

Liang You Nian ( played by Lai Kuan Lin) is Xia Miao Miao's senior, a grade higher than her. While preparing for his national exam, he always takes out time to help Miao Miao with her math. Afterward, he graduated in the first place and successfully enters Hai Cheng University.

Xia Miao Miao (Played by Zhao Jin Mai) is a girl who looks normal, has normal grades, and has not that many friends. But then this normal girl falls in love with the amazing, intelligent, and good-looking senior, Liang You Nian. Although she likes him, she always thought she was too ugly and not good enough for him. Later on, she works hard and gets into Hai Cheng University as an architecture student.

This drama is a remake of the THAILAND hit movie/film Crazy Little Thing Called Love (2010). It is a story of an ordinary girl who falls head over heels for the most popular guy in school. Xia Miao Miao is a shy, artistic student who develops a crush on a handsome, talented senior in her school and embarks on a journey of self-discovery through college. Because of Liang You Nian, Xia Miao Miao decides to make a change. Through the help of her friends, she starts to learn about fashion, join school clubs, and study hard to raise her grades. Her ordinary life becomes more colorful by the day.

Hmmm… since I watched the Crazy Little Thing Called Love Thai version, I already know the plot. Hahaha.😁 They are almost same, but this drama is more in depth and the Thai version was better for me.😅 This is a typical school youth drama where the FL follows his crush from high school days to university days. But she is not the annoying type, she is a cute shy type of girl. And the FL slowly progressed to become better at everything and to achieve her goals while loving the ML.
Overall, it is okay for me. The ML is handsome and the FL is cute.😍 Their chemistry is okay also since I haven't watched any of their dramas yet. It is light, pure, comedy, romantic school drama with happy ending. It is 7.5 for me because I think the episodes are dragged to make it longer. It can be over in 24 episodes, but it was dragged to 36 episodes, so some parts are boring for me.

GENRE – Modern, Comedy, Romance, Youth, Drama

LEAD CAST – Lai Kuan Lin , Zhao Jin Mai

This drama was better than I expected. I was quite skeptical in trying it out since it was Guanlin's first drama and I find ugly duckling stories boring. I was proved wrong. It's a lovely drama albeit a bit slow and longer than necessary.

PLOT: Very refreshing approach to a cliche plot. An ugly duckling transforms but she doesn't change overnight. It's not just about her physical appearance - but she grows and matures in many ways. The character of Xiao Miao Miao took time to grow on me. I thought her struggles would be boring but I was genuinely invested in her growth as a character. I love how the changes happened in her gradually and she goes from meek to doing what she loves in the end. Younian is the best, most perfect character in a teen drama. He's full of warmth and likes her since day one without judging or commenting about her appearance. I initially expected his character to be a mean one or a jerk, but I was wrong again! He's the nicest guy in the room, mature and full of patience and care for others. Younian is a true second lead of dramas as a male lead. All the friends in the group are also awesome. I freaking love how supportive and loving Miaomiao's friends are to her. They are her true friends through good times and bad.

ACTING: Guanlin is handsome and gets so much more cute, hot and handsome every episode. I harbour a massive noona crush on him and he is all squishy. <3 He can improve his acting but he was still good compared to so many idols. The boy was probably 17 when he filmed and WOW how can anyone look so good at that age. I don't know much about Angel Zhao but she is fantastic and can succeed in C-drama industry if she gets the right roles.

LOVE STORY / FRIENDSHIP ASPECT: A bit slow when it comes to romance but everyone's crushes on each other were too cute. There are no villains, unnecessary second leads or scheming mother in laws. The characters are all lovely and relatable. I love Yaoyao, Kaitou and Xinxin the most. Everyone was so lovable. I loved Miao Miao's mother !!!

OVERALL: It did bore me a few times but it was very good overall. This drama is like ice-cream on a summer day or a cup of cocoa in the winter. It's cute and delivers so well. Plus, the campus setting reminded me so much of my campus days. I would totally recommend you to watch this drama.

Honestly speaking.. I completed the whole drama in 2 days..I watched it non-stop and ended it.
I usually read reviews before watching a drama and I know how a good review with minimal words helps me , so I am gonna tell in the minimum words I can use as when it comes to this drama I will honestly fall short for words to express it.
I am a regular and keen k and c drama watcher and trust me I know how difficult it is to find a good drama with a sensible plot.. attractive leads , character development and most importantly a happy and satisfactory ending...
You name it this drama has it...I really really really really suggest everybody to watch it..
(Honestly lead it tooooooo hot...!!)

Worth The Binge

This drama was soooo slow paced, but I loved it all the same! Younian and Miaomiao had so much chemistry! It really would have gotten a 10 if it was shortened into less episodes. Nevertheless, I did binge this drama a lot, and I probably would have complained if it had been 30 episodes.

Angel and Kuanlin were really great, despite being so young! It's rare that you get to see people playing characters older than they actually are, so to see them playing older was interesting. I do think that they are pretty immature for their age, but honestly, at like 22 years old you're still pretty much a baby and learning, so it's realistic I would think.

I loved how this show explored other people's relationships too, and everyone got a happy ending. I really loved Yichao and Xiaoyue, they were adorable. Xiaoyue did annoy me when she liked Younian, but when she met Yichao, everything for me changed with her. She's adorable and she really suits Yichao.

Hexin and Kaituo's matchup initially annoyed me, but I do think they look good together. They are both pretty similar, and I think that's what made them clash a lot, but they are good together. Seeing Kaituo moving on from Miaomiao was really nice to see, because I did not want him to get with her. This might have been my first drama where I didn't like the second lead, but I did grow to like him better at the end.

The teacher's romance was a part I didn't like that much because I feel like it didn't add anything to the story. Tbh I skipped a lot of it at the end because I didn't like it, but I think the actors are cute. Especially the fashion teacher I like her character, just not the romance.

Younian and Miaomiao's conflict at the end was probably the thing most keeping me from making this a 10. I feel like they are both in the wrong, but I don't think it was a good enough reason for Miaomiao to break up with him. Especially because for the entire time they had known each other, he had never did her wrong. This was the first time anything like that had happened. But I do understand her frustration, and her crying in front of him, and him not saying anything did send me. Still, I feel like they didn't have to. But I guess it made it a little more interesting.

They got back pretty quickly after she returned, but I was sad he didn't propose to her at the end. On the rooftop of his mom's project that he finished. I would have loved to see him propose, and also an actual kiss. They did actually kiss but it was covered up by people going past them. I'm assuming it's because they both hadn't had their first kisses yet, but I'm still sad I never saw it lol.

I really liked how they handled Miaomiao's glow up to. Unlike other dramas I've seen, it was pretty natural over time, and there was no overnight now she looks like a princess kid of ordeal. The way that Younian fell for her before her glow up was so adorable. He really is such a green flag. Where can I sign up for a man like him??? She gets so pretty as the show goes on, I only wish she kept her wavy hair. The wavy hair was my favoirte, and then it got less wavy, then she cut it. But overall, I can't complain.

There were some missed opportunities to progress their relationship, like when he got her from LASIK. He could have held her hand, but he didn't. Nevertheless, I loved it. There was a lot of problems I had, but I still loved it.

Anyhow, really good show! Such a slow burn, but when they do get together, it's a lot of bliss. Would totally recommend!

the cutest thing

i think this is my new favorite c-drama! i’m getting that empty feeling you get when you finish a show (lol). so this drama is your classic story of first love. although at times the story gets a little embarrassing or strange, i believe it was entertaining throughout.
despite the romance being very youthful, i think it was refreshing to see high school/college characters being played by actual teenagers and not 30 year olds! i liked both the male and female lead (i must admit the acting was little stiff from the male lead but i think it was his first drama). what i especially liked from the male lead was his character wasn’t a total a**hole like most male leads
are. thankfully it didn’t fall into the cliche where the female lead is hopelessly chasing after the cold-hearted male lead while a way more competent second male lead watches (i’m so tired of this typical school drama trope). the female lead has some great growth from being super timid to confident (without relying on her bf or friends!)
i think it was clear that the male and female lead liked each other equally (aww). although their love story is slow (i personally love a good slow burn), i think the scenes when they started dating were so cute. it makes you want to replay them over and over again! i’m not a fan of the slow-no tho. the side characters all had interesting stories, but i was not a fan of the constant fat-shaming of one of the friends. in addition, the way they made the female lead change her appearance so much (even portraying darker skin as ugly) was not fun to watch. i understand the beauty standards are different, but this took away some of the enjoyment of watching the show.

disappointed with the ML

first of all, the atmosphere of the college universe of this series was really good, it was one of the reasons why I continued to watch the series. but the male lead's interest in the female lead was never for me.. it was so fake / not even fake, it was like he wasn't interested at all. or we could call it no chemistry.
time lapses are one of the things i hate in dramas, unfortunately this drama also used it and i think it screwed up the whole story..
a love that lasted so many years and as a result a very simple love story did not suit.. sorry for xia miao miao

"Xue Zhang" (o-o) ~Miao Maio

This is a super cute High school/college romance Cdrama. It follows the plot of many other cliche dramas- the girl is shy 'ugly' unintelligent, whilst the male is tall handsome popular smart. But what makes this drama different from other is that the female lead is not overly obsessed with the male, she becomes more independent.

I really liked the leads cute shy interactions with each other before they dated. Kuan Lin acting still isn't top-notch, which can be seen in some scenes where he doesn't portray enough emotion, especially in sad scenes. Angel Zhao did a splendid job, she expressed her emotions well. They had good chemistry together. Heads up- if you're expecting a kiss scene: well sadly there are none at all in this drama, the most is a peck on the cheeks. This is understandable since Angel Zhao was 16 and Kuan Lin was 17.

The OST is super good! I love their intro song, the lyrics is really cute, and relates well to the plot.

I would definitely watch if season two comes!

Yeah, it's a typical handsome brainy guy and a not so attractive girl story. But I really liked their chemistry together. I wish Lai Guan Lin had more facial expressions, but his smile melts my heart anyway. I was a bit disappointed by how the drama ended - It was nothing special in my opinion, but if there'll be a season 2, I'd still watch it. :) I also liked that Miao Miao, physical transformation was gradual and that there was always something that triggered the change. I am a bit irritated by the "advertisements" of the skin care products, felt it was too much. But hey, that's just me. :)

Overall, this drama is adorable and can be cringy at times. However, I sort of wished that I had a relationship like theirs as well.

The relationship does get a little bit slow and progresses at a slower rate, too. For me, I liked how the main lead guy, Liang You Nian, takes the relationship slow and really respects his girlfriend, Xia Miao Miao.

You'll see a slow transition to how Xia Miao Miao changes her appearance and changes her habits as well.

I recommend watching this drama because it does give you the warm fuzzys.

Nothing new in the story ,same like other chinese or korean dramas . College life ,friends ,their friendship ,their hardship and love but still the drama have its flavour though it has similarities but still it shows uniqueness . Everybody did a great job . Beautiful thing in this drama is that they didnot tangled much with the love triangle , sometime love triangle also make viewers so sad that they unable to focus on further episodes . Sometimes it is good to be to ,"Let it go". Lyrics of the song also nice . Liang you looked so handsome and cute ,his smike i like a lot . One thing they focus on the matter that sometime parents force a lot to their child about their education field ,they forced their choice to them (their kid) ,they donot understand that they are ruiningbtheir child carrier .may such thing brings money but not happiness ,satisfaction and peace . I like this dama .it is not at all boring.

Another Good very sweet School Drama

Another Asian School drama, but we can't seem to get enough of them. Very cute, great ML & FL chemistry. when the ML smiles, he really lights up the screen. One of the few dramas where the ML starts off as a really nice guy and not a jerk. But man, what a sweet heart he is. The FL is painfully shy, but her character grows nicely as the drama progresses. I love her BFF's. I also love the side story with the teachers, chasing after each other as well. Its PG13, so the kisses will also be very innocent, but honestly, it was still very intimate. Brought back memories of what it was like to be so young and in love with your crush.
The OST is pretty good, My favorite song, (think its most people's favorite too) for end credits and was also used to do the "Jealousy Truck Painting scene" was sung by WANG BOWEN. The dorky best friend in the drama. He's got such a great voice and that song has such a great "heart beat". Just a little surprise trivia for people who didn't notice.
Highly recommend, I would re-watch it again.
