Good-looking leads, quite engaging but a bit draggy

I read the reviews by other viewers before I watched this show and I must say I wasn’t truly impressed after watching the whole drama.

What I liked:
-the beginning of the drama was quite interesting and I was hooked
-the lead couple had good chemistry
-the beginning of the drama was suspenseful and I wanted to watch one episode after another
-the acting of the cast was very good (in general)
-the first 20 episodes of the total of 40 episodes

What I didn’t like:
>the show became quite draggy after the first 20 episodes
>I felt that the drama could have ended much earlier
>the drama was going around in circles for several episodes
>the murder cases were only solved and revealed towards the tail end of the drama and I found things rather draggy
>there were several angsty episodes in this drama
>the ending isn’t a happy ending because the female lead was injured and didn’t wake up and have a happy ending with her male lead — I didn’t like this at all

Overall, I think that it’s okay to watch because of the good acting and the fairly suspenseful plot. However, it’s not a happy, cheerful, merry, feel-good kind of show. I’d say watch if there’s nothing else to watch. If you have other options, go for them.

Good police case, good love story

A love story set against the backdrop of the solving of two criminal cases. Very good acting, very well developed characters, not only the male and female leads.

I believed in the love and strength of the protagonist who selflessly put himself under harassment by the mafia, once to help the police, and a second time to protect the woman he loves.

The second leading male role was also given to a worthy man, who did not let his personal feelings lead him and behave hostile towards his rival in love, on the contrary, stood by his side and helped him.

Very Intriguing & Unexpected Storyline

I watched by chance coz Lin Gengxin was in it (totally crushing on him atm♥️) & didn’t read the Plot blurb & didn’t know how many eps there were! Was hooked from the start. The middle dragged a little & the ending kinda left you wanting 10 more minutes of the main couple together in present time. All in all, it was a great watch. Lin Gengxin & female lead was great casting ?& the acting was so good that at moments I “felt” the emotions & found myself crying & blowing my nose ?(quietly so I didn’t wake up my bf), lol.

Unique Chinese Romance Drama

What I loved most about this drama was the combination of romance & thrill! The male lead & female lead have great personalities which makes them delightful to watch! The male lead is confident & charming while the female lead has a strong character. She is a bit stubborn, out-spoken, etc. Her character is really well-written as well as the male lead's character. The screenplay is also unique because the story is portrayed through the perspective of the male lead & female lead, and this allows viewers to see how they interpreted events in the story. The story is told from each perspective and it's unique to watch! They also have amazing chemistry, and you just want them to get more and more screentime together. This is tied for the best chinese drama I have watched along with Love Scenery! You will love this drama, and I would categorize this as a romance thriller that will have you at the edge of your seat by the end of the drama!

One of the best Cdramas I've seen so far

This is the very first time I've given a 10 rating for any c-drama. I mainly watch historical/costume/wuxi series, but I will occasionally watch modern dramas if there's a ML or FL that I loved in a historical. I finally watched Princess Agents and fell in love w/ the ML Lin Geng Xin (Kenny Lin) so I watched this series. He did not disappoint!

Story:
Action packed, not super predictable. Threw some unexpected curve balls. Almost every episode was a suspenseful cliffhanger.

Pacing:
Good pacing, this is the ONLY show that I did not skip through much. Even some of my most favorite series I did a lot of skipping during draggy parts. This series was not draggy at all. I found myself skipping some parts mainly because I couldn't stand the suspense and needed to know what happens next.

Music:
Good, but not particularly memorable where I would listen to the soundtrack later.

Acting:
- Kenny Lin (ML - Yan Jin) - He is probably my most favorite ML actor at this point, on the heals of watching him in Princess Agents then this show. I think he has surpassed my other ML favorites: Ken Chun (Rise of the Phoenixes), Mark Chao (Eternal Love/TMPB) and Allen Deng (Ashes of Love). Every single scene with Yan Jin was engaging, entertaining, funny or heart breaking. He was incredibly believable with all facets of his character: the handsome rich playboy, the silly brother/friend, the loving boyfriend and the badass tough guy cop. His chemistry w/ the FL was off the charts, extremely endearing, funny and saddening all at once. I can't wait to watch him in his next show.
- FL (Ji Xiou-ou) - first time seeing this actress. She did a good job.
- Support cast was awesome as well. Among my favorite were: Yan Shen (Yan Jin's twin sister), Cheng Rui Min (Yan Jin's best friend)

To love or not to love this drama? That is the question...

boy, do i have a fair few things about this drama. put shortly, overall it is worth a watch! love crime and romance and this drama does it well. so if you are reading comments trying to decide whether to watch it, here’s the sign for you to watch it ;) Cass and Kenny have amazing chemistry (even more so now that it seems that they’re a couple irl!) and the trio of policemen have such a cute bromance by the end.

long answer: this drama would have defo been one of my faves if it had not been 40 episodes, the story was dragged on for too long. and most of the time, YJ was not even a free man?! i was not a fan of the flashback interview thing for the first 14 episodes. the way they presented the storyline in multiple POVs was a nice touch but the flashback kind of thing made it difficult for me to connect with the characters once the story was brought into the present. like, the characters didn’t feel developed? if the series had maintained the energy it had in the final 10 eps, it would have definitely been a more enjoyable watch than it already is. that being said though, i love the romance between our main leads. such a strong bond and trust. the bromance is top notch too (which surprised me because i hatedddd ZTH for most of the drama lol).

the ending was a bit annoying but i mean, it’s hinted that it’s a good ending so i’ll take it. i don’t think it ruined the drama overall.

Fate of Yan Jin and Ji Xiao'Ou ❣️

I've been waiting for this drama to complete eng sub for ages so I really hope it doesn't disappointed me, it's not! It's been a while since I watch suspence romance so I pretty much impress by the production. They know what to do to let the us engaged and addicted to the drama. When you thought the episode can end peacefully boom they drop the twist. You'll want to go further to the drama. If you got boring in first 14 eps because of the pov, just play it in 1.2x or 1.5x. All the information is useful so skipping will be bad :p

I think it's all fate. Everything will be done if Yan Jin didn't fall in love with Ji Xiao Ou. He start to have a soft spot for her and treat everyone beside her with trust. When he could easily arrest/hurt Zhan Yu (just look when he first meet zy, he is ruthless), he put trust on him since zhan yu is like jxo's brother. He know his family condition well and give him a chance to turn his life. One thing that I appreciate from this heavy drama is healthy relationship of yan's family. This drama make me cry in every happy occasions them so gotta say despite the ending, I'll still suggest everyone to watch this.

Kenny Lin is such a good actor especially the part when he struggles to stop the addiction and the action part. I hate yan jin prank and actions to her not once but I think twice? But as I write this I come to realized that his character is typical boy I see in real life, full of nonsense but loyal and witty so I could really see the thing he do to happen in real life. still the smartest boy and couldn't help loving him :)

ji xiao ou have a strong mentality, brave and her temperament is just nice to combine with yan jin shameless and crazy side. She is just different from other female lead, she will rather fight back than sit and do nothing when she know that something was wrong. The writer portrayed her smarty but the only stupid thing she do is that last scene that cause her life.

Amazing thriller

First time watching a mandarin thriller..... have been used to watching the TVB ones previously. The series is indeed very very easy to get hooked on to. Starting on present day and jumping back and forth in timelines can also be somewhat confusing if you walk out to get a cup of drink or something while letting it run. The casts of the entire series really did a great job bringing this story to life. The Male and Female lead are quite good together and make the story even more interesting. The songs paired for this series are also very nice to listen to.

Amazing ,too good , fabulous ,fantastic ,outstanding story as well as acting . Don't skip the scenes while watching though some scenes were boring otherwise you will not understand the story and need to rewind the scenes .
Totally suspense ,not able to guess who is killer until the story itself not give the clue .
Cute love story as well as friendship .
I have only one complain regarding the ending of the drama . This story needs second season.
Felt bad for the Zhan Yue character .
Go for it.

A mysterious gem of a drama!

Very Mysterious and a true gem.
First half of the drama has been directed with multiple focus points between the ML and FL. With flashbacks and storytelling. I guess this does not suit everyone, but I like it which gives you more layers and insights how secrets can unfold.
I like the whole build up and unpeeling of the mysteriousness, it makes you very curious what comes next and see how things unfold.
Also you it keeps you guessing whether who did what?
I massively like the unquestioned love between the ML adn FL.
It’s a feeling and emotion you cannot explain with logic, and if you have never loved you will never understand this.

A Superior Series From the Beginning

Everything about this series is remarkable: the acting, directing, writing, cinematography and music score all contribute to a riveting show. The entire cast is amazing, but the chemistry between Lin Geng Xin and Gai Yue Xi particular stands out to make show even more compelling. Every episode so far (I am at 11) leaves you anxious for more. The opening score is hauntingly beautiful.

I am American, I have to watch with subtitles, but the acting is SO remarkable that I forget that I do not speak a second language or that I am reading subtitles. I have even begun to watch without subtitles and I can follow accurately. This is a testament to how beautifully this series was developed and brought to life on screen by so many people on and off screen.

I HIGHLY recommend this series. It is one of the most compelling I have seen in a very long time.

Story and acting superb

Great series. Anxiously waiting for new episodes. Actors are great. Good to see Kenny Lin in modern day drama. Still waiting for Princess Agents Season 2. Series fill the gap while I wait. Method of storytelling from perspective of main actors is very interesting. Sympathize with hard choices he has to make, but his choices are wrong. His friend is dead and his relationship is in the now. He should cherish that relationship. He might not be able to regain that relationship or find another great love. On pins and needles to see how writers resolve dilemma.
