Way Too Rushed and Needed More Development

It’s not as good as I thought it would be but it’s cute. I loved the WWX voice addition towards the end to remind WN of who he was. I do feel the ending was rushed and so was the start. Could have worked with more development. But seeing the two of them together and destroying evil together was great. It was very discombobulated; like the directors were trying very hard and in a short amount of time capitalize on the success of the original series. The only things that were pretty good were the special effects.

Good but not great

I like the Wen Ning's character in the serial. In this movie, it seems Wen Ning become more determined. It's not bad, but I miss previous Wen Ning's shy character. I was excited when Wen Ning become the main role of the movie. His skills also grew with "Nebula Chain" as his weapon, reminds me to Shun of Saint Seiya.

The story itself doesn't show complication like in the series. But for Wen Ning's fans (and Ah Yuan's), it is still worth to watch. The best part was the fighting scene at the end of the movie. The background music makes the scene look like a "Dynasty Warriors" game.

However, there's no noticeable character beside Wen Ning, Ah Yuan, and Xiao Yi. For me, the scenario is too hasty. If they can make some development, perhaps this movie would have better re-watch value.

A slightly entertaining little murder mystery with Wen Ning and Lan Yuan. As other reviewers mentioned, the story was inconsequential and contributed nothing to the story of 'The Untamed' series. I would have like to see Wen Ning and Yuan rebuild their Wen clan instead of a random murder mystery. It was pretty cool seeing Wen Ning take charge and see his new superpower with the chains (though it was kinda random)! That climatic battle scored with arena rock music was thrilling, I must admit! As other people mentioned, Wen Ning was like a completely different character in this film compared to the show so continuity isn’t really there...

" The living dead " was a nice addition after the hit drama " The Untamed ". Though you have to have watched the web drama first, as there were some refrences to it and the main characters were from there. But they did kept the momentum and the atmosphere from the untamed as well.

The story, overall, was original and fresh and had a nice twist in the end. It was darker and had more notes of horror than the series, but the SGI were mostly good as well as the costumes, settings and performances.

So, overall, seven and a half out of ten.

The Untamed Accompaniment

A bit too late in the bandwagon, but glad nevertheless to have seen this at least once (die hard fan of the untamed here. Lol)

First of all, let me put this out here, the first scene freaking scared me out of my body! Lol. I literally need to put my hand in front of my eyes, and peek thru half of the screen from behind the fingers. Lol. Like the cinematography for the first few scenes.

And sizhuiiiiii my baby boy! How grown up you are already! Solo night hunt huh?

Wen ning is cool as usual. Very the ghost general. Lol.

I love how they incorporate the jokes on Ning shushu vs Wen qianbei in the movie. Goes to show how wei wuxian has been rubbing off on wen ning all this time. Haha

A bit sad that they cannot have WWX and LWJ cameo-ing in this, might be more natural and sweet. The fact that their little a yuan is now grown up and able to battle well already. *wipe tears

The battle scene music is quite funny though. Lol

All in all, i think, for one to truly enjoy these 2 movies (living dead and fatal journey), one needs to at least watch the untamed first. These movies are too short to build characters from zero

Could have been a music video.

Honestly speaking, the story is so simple and the characters have no depth, this could easily fit into a five minutes music video.

Most of the enjoyment I felt came from the visual aspects of the movie - some scenes were truly beautiful. Sadly, this does not live up to my expectations as a movie spin-off of The Untamed, as it has no wits, silly undertones and comedy, nor the interesting characters. One would think making a spin-off would be a perfect way to explore the side characters and the lore of the created universe. I did not get it here.

It was just a really basic plot with predictable plots and conclusions. The cast did what they could, but the script was just too empty to make the movie exciting.

There is not much to say. In my opinion, this is a skip even for The Untamed fans. It did not bring anything to the table, except from improved special effects. Sadly, that’s not enough for me to enjoy a movie.

Sherlock Holmes (Doubles as Dr Octopus) & Dr Watson

After The Untamed, many viewers like myself wish there were additional episodes of the drama; we couldn’t get enough of it and we had missed it so much. When it was announced that there would be some spin-offs of the drama, we were ecstatic. The Living Dead is one of them.

Perhaps we were over excited for the new movie and over expecting, when I finally watched it, I could not say I liked it a lot, like the way I love The Untamed.

This is a story about Wen Ning and Lan Sizhui, and their adventures. Viewers who do not know who Wen Ning and Lan Sizhui are, please watch The Untamed. This is a horror movie. The beginning scene was creepy and intense.

In this movie, Wen Ning is not that Wen Ning in The Untamed anymore. No more innocent and cute as he was previously. He is now serious and somber. Though he still has all the veins on his neck and is still wearing chains on his body, he is now a very powerful and intelligent person. His eyes are clear and bright. He can think and analyze a situation very fast and accurately. Together with Sizhui, they solve the greatest mystery/crime; he is like Sherlock Holmes. The chains that he wields become his weapons and when he waves the chains around, he looks very much like Dr Octopus in Spider-Man 2.

For Sizhui, he remains more or less like the Sizhui in The Untamed with better fighting skills with his guqin. There is a moment where the Yiling Patriarch appears in the movie encouraging Wen Ling when he (Wen Ling) is feeling lost. It is just a very brief moment, and I long for Wei Ying’s appearances (which I know not possible). At the end of the story, both Wen Ning and Sizhui return to the Gusu Cloud Recesses. The beautiful scene stirs up a lot of fond memories and I’m hoping to hear the sounds of the flute and guqin playing the Wuji tune again.

The Yin metal comes into play again. But in the movie, what the metal is has not been explained in detail, and I fear many viewers may be confused if they have not followed The Untamed story.

Overall, the acting and settings of the movie are pretty good, but it doesn’t have that celestial air that The Untamed has, and the people are not ethereal as Wei Ying and Lan Zhan. I guess, nothing else would ever replace the feelings that The Untamed has given me.

Cute little pass time story

It's a cute little Story about Wen Ning and A Yuan.
I liked it a lot since Wen Ning was my favourite character (after Xue Yang xD).
The CGI was worse than in The Untamed which led to a few laughter here and there and if that doesn't bother you, go for it. Watch it.
It's adorable to be honest xD
The story was a bit confusing and didn't come full circle but I could overwatch that.
It's a nice pass time thing to watch if you got around 90 minutes to spare.

I'm off watching the other Spin Off movie of the untamed!

Not an essential, more a nice side quest to 'The Untamed' series' lore

After watching the amazing series The Untamed, I was looking forward this movie set up in the same universe as I truly enjoyed the parent drama. Here, the film features a side quest led by two secondary characters of The Untamed that I like a lot: Ghost General Wen Ning and Lan Si Zhui.

Even though I like the universe and the characters, I must admit that this movie is not a "must watch" but rather a "nice to see". Indeed the story is very predictable, I guessed everything very easily. There are almost no characters growth / development and very few links / references to the parent series. The scenario, quite classic, felt very "shonen" / "video game" and the film is too short to get truly emotionally invested in what happens to the protagonists.

I still enjoyed it thanks to the production value. The budget seems higher than in the drama for the special effects and make-up. There is an elevated feel to the monster / fantasy elements which is very enjoyable, especially in the fight scenes. The soundtract was pretty nice, though not memorable but with some lovely tunes as well as a soothing ending song.

I would recommend this to people that are missing The Untamed series. If you watch it without any big expectation, it is an easy watch featuring lovable secondary characters from this amazing drama. It does not bring anything new to the universe and original story but it is a quite short and entertaining watch.

Unnecessary

The best part of this is probably just the name drops and the references (hearing Wuji again!) and just seeing Sizhui and Wenning again, even though I actually find it very hard to reconcile either of them with the same characters we grew to love in the drama. I also feel like they were both characters that were extremely lovable as side characters but there wasn't enough emotional weight for them to be intriguing leads.

The plot is just...not really something I cared about at all, and there are some editing and music choices that really don't fit.

My expectations were high for this movie, following the drama ‘the Untamed’. Absolutely loved 于斌’s portrayal of 温宁 there.

Even as a spin-off movie. I had expected there to be relations with the drama. I hoped to see some character development for both 蓝思追 and温宁 since the drama pre-quel.
This movie started interesting, the beginning did catch my interest. However, the way温宁 appears, his whole chracter is changed and different in terms of personality from the drama. Being much more independent, and confident…smarter.

It is understandable that there was a time-skip between. But I feel it would have been so much better if the movie would tell a story of his growth rather than just making a random ‘jump-in’ to a different characteristic, almost changed personality that is not familiar to me. Thus it felt much unrelated.

Half of the movie was storytelling, not in any form personally related to温宁 and 思追’s adventures and growth. They are basically just passing by a city and get involved. And it does not give me the feeling of them being the ‘main cast’. Like… there is no major focus in terms of character development. Yes, 魏无羡 did appear for 温宁. And that being more of an emotional moment. Feeling of significant. But it was a mere cameo kind of. It was not as deeply emotionally filled that left us longing after the previous drama Untamed.

I feel the story was simple, lacked of depth. It felt much like they ‘borrowed’ the characters 温宁 and思追 from Untamed to play detectives.

The actors were still great. They did a good job. CG and special effects were cool too!
The side story was alright. However, the plot itself (in relation to the growth of characters温宁 and思追) was just not on that level… Except for the appearance of温宁 and 思追it could have felt like just any other ‘OK’ movie.

*This is coming from someone who specially looked forward watched the movie only because of Wen Ning.
The ending song for Wen Ning's theme was the best...

I loved it. Mainly because it was another part of the untamed. I felt like I saw another part of Wen Ning. In the untamed, I see the cute version of him. The one where he's always clumsy and cute. In this movie, however, I felt as if he is stronger and more capable to do things. Another thing to point out is, there was a yin iron in it. In the original show, the Qishan Wen clan had 3 pieces in which were eventually destroyed. So my other thought is that the piece of yin iron in this show is the last piece, the 4th one, the one Xue Yang hid. I'm honestly very shocked at that fact in the untamed no one was able to find the last piece of it, and it was hidden for like 20 years, and this Zhao Yi is able to find the last yin iron, very impressive. I'm pretty sure this is kind of what happened after Wen Ning and Sizhui left Wei Ying and Lan Zhan. The part where Wei Wuxian came in made me cry. Another question is Wen Ning a puppet or a human?
