Great show

So maybe im a little biased as this was pretty much my introduction to korean dramas, however even after 5 years this is still my favourite that I keep coming back to.

This is the drama that made me fall in love with melodrama, the story is great with fantastic pacing through to the ending however this drama doesnt escape some of the common drama tropes. The cast is amazing with strong performances from song joong ki and moon chae won also the the loveable kangaroo lee kwang soo.

The soundtrack is superb especial the opening and a few others that play in key epic moments that really tie everything together

This is my favorite drama a very close second is Fated to Love You. Why do I love this drama, I love the main cast. They did a wonderful job especially Moon Chae Won and Song Joong Ki. The chemistry of these two actors is off the charts. Yes, there are plot holes and the over use of amnesia but all in all I thoroughly enjoyed this drama. Not once did I want to skip a scene everything was relevant to keep the story going. My only complaint and it is a small complaint is the main female lead doesn't embrace the main mail lead when he is kissing her. I don't know if this is a cultural thing but in my honest opinion those little subtle nuances mean a lot to the story, it's like you want to tell the director to go back and just do a few things differently and the whole show would be that much better. Again, I love this drama so please watch it.

Missed the golden time

You can't watch this show now. This was the show which introduced me to kdrama, cried a lot , hated Kang Maru a bit but still wanted him to be happy. I watched this show in 2019( that means no Covid PTSD and more attention span) and the song "Jeongmal" still gives me goosebumps. Haven't re-watched the show as it holds a special meaning in both my heart and mind and I don't want to judge the show. This was released in 2012 so you can imagine the pace and revenge plot. If you want to feel the old kdrama style definitely watch but don't compare it to the new kdramas. And of course Song joong ki is GOAT

The drama was very thrilling and this drama just draw you in it. All the acting was very real and not fake, it was very good acting, not horrible acting like you see in drama these days. All the people in the drama make you hate them but love them, you hate them for their action but then you also love them because behind every action there was a reason for it. All the cast portay their role very well, and the drama seems very real. The drama is very addicting and suspense drama, it keep you waiting and wanting for more. Once you watch the 1st episode you will be hooked and crave for more episode to come out already

(Based on a re-watch)

Why I watched it: Song Joong Ki. Also, I was confused the first time I saw it so I wanted to give it another chance. But mostly Song Joong Ki.

Was it worth it: Absolutely.

What I liked the most: Powerful female characters. They ended up with the lion’s share of the lines. The guys were pretty silent. Also Song Joong Ki.

What I disliked the most: The sister character annoyed the crap out of me at first. It improved as the series progressed.

Moment Meter: 3/10 – Some moments, but none that took my breath away.

Other thoughts: I couldn’t follow this drama the first time I saw it. I was new to Kdramas and the way they work, so I was lost for at least the beginning of it. This time around I totally got it. Followed it from beginning to end. It’s actually a great story. My advice is to not over think it. What you see is pretty much what you get. Everyone is super conniving, but they’re not at a level where they’re hiding their true intentions from the viewers. If you need some explanations, let me know and I’ll fill you in.

Conclusion: Very good for a melodrama, though Joong Ki is probably (definitely) part of the reason why I regard it so highly. The story is solid and could have been over complicated, but they pulled it off well.

This is a drama of Kang Ma Roo and only him. This drama makes people suffer from compassion and adoration towards Kang Ma Roo played by Song Joong Ki. The combination of actor Song Joong Ki and personality of his character Kang Ma Roo is a killing match.

Actually this drama is so bad and too good at the same time, from different points of view. Inspite of the low scores I gave to it, this drama is in the My favorite drama list.

Although I admit that Song Joong Ki played his character mostly with the pocker face, he still delivers powerful emotions to me, I don't know how. May be because the pocker face is psychologically reasonable here: because when a person suffers from such hardships and still stay stubborn, he has to suppress his emotions and make himself unreceptive to shattering things. Life made Kang Ma Roo kinda lone wild animal, and Song Joon Ki excitingly expressed this his condition with his eyes - the way he glares.

Kang Ma Roo is born nice, soft, loving and very smart guy, but one mistake ruined everything and forced him to become stubborn, strong, mature and pityless man, still nice and innocent at the same time though. And plus all that is with the look, voice and expressions of the actor Song Joong Ki.

Seo Eun Gi is basically an interesting character too. Unlike other drama's female leads, Seo Eun Gi is a smart, clever, confident, fearless woman who doesn't trust anyone and able to bring down just with her words all the businessmen and politcians. And this person gives up all her arrogance only for Kang Ma Roo. Seems like her mind was blown instantly after knowing him. :)

One more good thing is Lee Kwang Soo. He is just himself, the unique person, he somehow brightens every movie and drama with his sensual and funny behavior.

This drama also has many beautifull viewes of nature, old houses and paths, good wounds makeup :)

Well, the rest I can say - this drama is rather as bad as any soap opera. I think you the viers are already know this from the plot. There are amnesias, disguisting high society personalities, hunting for money-or-death, a-hero-protecting-his-girl and blah blah. Setting unrealistic, nonesense, stupidly tragic situations to make viewers addictive - is just the classic soap opera. I hate it so much.

For the scores:
The story. Does it mean the only story (script) itself or also the characters development? For 1) the story I give 0 (yes zero) as it's a classic soap opera trash, 2) the characters I'd give 5 as they are mostly intersting and often made me think about my place in this life.
Cast and acting. As for me Song Joong Ki is perfect for his role. Moon Chae Won and Lee Kwang Soo were good. Others are nothing or bad for me. And I personally dislike Park Shi Yeon but I admit her acting was good. So overall it's 5.
Music. Ost has the kind of songs that I hate (kinda crying singing). But as they make the right heartbreaking atmosphere, I give it 3/10, ok. Also one of th ost songs is sung my Song Joong Ki (I was pleasantly surprised).
Rewatch value. Well, I rewatched it 3 times already, skipping the annoying parts. Inspite of all the annoying flaws, I guess I rewatched only because of Kang Ma Roo and sometimes Seo Eun Gi.

Ah finally I definitelly recomment every one to watch this drama to feel the emotional roller coaster!

Story is 7 because:
1. Its no new story
2. Its the typical heartbreaking korean drama
3. Will be quite the tear-jerker
4. BUT the flow of the story makes it pretty unpredictable

Acting / Cast is 9 because:
1. Supposedly 10 because Song Joong Ki did an awesome awesome awesome job!!! but the 2 female leads, although great but not awesome.

Music is 9 because:
1. It really ads to the pain of the story.
2. Xiah Junsu is singing the main ost.

Rewatch Value is 7 because:
1. I cannot say much since the drama is not even half its journey when i made this review

Overall:
Supposedly 9.5

At first i thought "mmm... the same story?" but something pushed me to the second episode and the third, the more i watched the more i wanted to see. The story is attracting like the drama's music. I think this is a really good drama. In fact though there are things that all of us has already seen (vengeance) all together are really good.

If you like stories with revenge for love and betrayal you must see it!

"SPOILER ALERT!"

Well this drama comes out to have an interesting beginning it will make people to really see the story through out. acting was very good and a lot of sad moments and alright moments. this drama would have been sooo good if they pulled off an ending that will not mind fucked people. if he died at that moment i would have understand and give it a 9 or maybe 10 for pulling off an expected ending and understandable. i mean he has brain damage and got stabbed that is not to be fcked up a seem likable way for him to die. and make people around him realize that he did all that for the love of her life and they don't realize and appreciate of what he's done until he's gone. I'm not tryna to be all he should die but not all fckin drama should have a weird ass "oh they live happy ending". and the most bad about the ending is "7 yrs later" no flashbacks holy sht. like nothing happened everyone lived on their life. what a great ending anyone could think off lets just make an ending with the two starting over and the rest moves on with their life. and who that fck was that little kid girl no explanations leaves most people mindfcked. LOL. i think if not all most people rate series as (70% ending 30% the rest).
its a good drama its just that the ending was rushed, it was poorly executed. ending really for the majority of girls who don't like maru to die LOL. can't argue with that.

This drama is unlike any that I've seen before. I can usually predict what will happen and I haven't been able to very well so far. The story line isn't all that original otherwise they through some curve balls at you. As you encounter these curve balls you start to really gain an interest in the various character relationships, both the love lines and family relations, how they develop throughout the series.
