A Chinese Odyssey: Pandora's Box (1995)

Both are reinterpretations of Journey to the west. Both are about adventures of Sun Wukong...........................................................................

Both depict a parodic adaptation of the famous "Journey to the West" lore. In fact, you wouldn't get some of the musical Easter eggs without watching the 1995 version as this was written by Stephen Chow, the same who acted as Monkey King aka Son Wukong in 1995.

Both are modernish reimagination but yet classic epic movies based on journey to the west. Both movies are very similar.........

Actor Stephen Chow now directs. Good casting, funny jokes and nice music and art direction in regards of character make up, costumes, and special effects.
