When I first started watching this I didn't expect myself to enjoy this drama as much I did. This was light heart and fluffy drama. There was not much drama like it was so smooth. the problems they solved it in two episodes max and also the problems they encountered they didn't drag and made it feel that the FL was in dismal. Since I am more into Detective type and suspense drama this was really a good fresh breather.

The acting was also not best but it was good. I think what I liked the most was the chemistry between everyone which kinda reflected in the drama.

I really like the music they used.

Good Light Watch

Likes:
- Darren Chen :-) ..... okay moving along
- Wen Bin's mother did not turn out to be evil
- Shen Qiao Di, Shen Wei Lan's brother, wasn't actually a jerk
- Meng Qi was actually a dork
- Meng Na Na was a ditzy love rival - though it was not exactly rivalry as everything was her imagination haha
- Love triangle did not get complicated
- Grandma Matchmaker

Dislikes:
- I found FL acting a little too exaggerated
- My pet peeve in any drama - deliberately hurting the other "because they love them". Thank goodness it did not last. ML did not fall for that drama - yes!

All in all this was a good light watch. I've become a Darren Chen fan so I hope to see more of him in dramas.

Old; but gold.

The story starts off with a male lead that's a hockey star that seems arrogant but isn't really and your average cinderella female lead that is just trying to live her life and fulfill; not so much a promise, but a quest she's given herself to fill her mom's shoes. The two cross paths and the rest is history. They're connected in every way; they bond really well, they have great chemistry, but like most cross dressing drama's, she's a "guy" for a majority of the show lol even though it's just something that's obvious and well, it's fine because honestly it worked out, everyone was nice about it, I really liked how the story flowed; I was laughing out loud and cheesing like crazy at a lot of the parts; so even though it was truly a really slow burning romance, the chemistry was there, the feelings were there and all in all, it was a great and positive watch.

I adore Darren Chen; after watching him in Meteor Garden, I've never been disappointed. I've seen him in reality shows and he's just good with his emotions and he was all around a goofy guy. Absolutely blown away by Sebrina Chen's acting, I've never seen her in anything I don't think and she was so positive and up beat; she played such a good actress and I loved the two together. Oh man, I really really liked everyone; even though some people didn't, I enjoyed the side stories. Li Jiu Lin played a great "best friend" lmao, I loved the brother and best friend; they were so supportive, I even kinda liked the annoying figure skater girl Na Na. And let's give it up for my girl Zhang Yu Xi that honestly played just a small part but she played such a big impacted part for our main lead; she's such a good actress in everything she does, it was a nice add on to this show.

I liked the music, it was a switch up between an average OST but then throwing in some English, it was kinda a banger tbh.

I don't think I would rewatch it right away but I would; when I need something goofy, fluffy, a pick me up show.

As a drama watching vet; this is your average, cliche, cross dressing drama but it's honestly such a classic story and feel; that it just feels right. Lol. I was thoroughly surprised how much I enjoyed this show because it was really like a filler but it was something even more over the top. It was overall...just good. I was laughing, I was surprised, I was bingeing the whole show; I literally was like on ep 5 and suddenly I'm ony ep 16 because I just kept watching it all day long. It was an easy watch, it was entertaining, it was a nice change away from wanting to take a break, it made me want to keep watching more shows on my list.

This drama is just ordinary, not something new. The story has been filmed many times and the plot is predictable. But this drama is perfect because of its simplicity. Not too much, light, and quite entertaining.

The acting of the cast are quite good, the characters complement each other. This drama is suitable when you need something light but have a romantic touch. The soundtracks are great. The cinematography is pretty good. I am quite entertained watching it and can finish it in about 3 days.

Overall, I like this drama. Light-hearted and entertaining.

Can we all just take a moment and appreciate how adorable Darren Chen in this show?

I have to say, I have seen this in a lot of recommendations so I picked this up with no expectations and then I just cannot stop watching.

Straight up, it’s full of clichés and tropes. Another gender bender with a simple story around university Ice Hockey, pretty boys, cohabitation and a girl wearing a really bad wig. Apart from the bad wig, I enjoyed the show immensely. Forget about everything and bask in the delight that is Darren Chen. That boy is too cute to be real. Love the cute cat sound effects used with his expressions.

Perhaps my little gripe is the soundtrack but that doesn’t matter that much.

Couple of things I learned here:
~Sabrina Chen seems to favor gender bender shows and always gets paired up with a beautiful ML. If you haven’t seen Maiden Holmes, then check it out. It’s another one where she disguises herself as a boy and gets entangled with a really pretty ML. Lucky her!

~I mean Darren Chen should be arrested for having the most adorable pretty face and hyper expressive sticky eyes. Like come on man, even you’re micro expressions are so convincing. Note that this is my first Darren Chen show…

So turn off your brain and enjoy the show!

It has every possible cliche executed in a great way.

The story was a lil meh when I read the summary. When I watched it, it had elements of Hana Kimi but it's less exaggerated because the girl did not enter the school to "stalk" this guy that she felt the need to help. The back story of her going into the school was purely to follow her mother's footsteps which was better than Hana Kimi. When watching the BTS of this drama, the director wanted to use the most cliche way to execute the idea of "you are the apple of my eye" in an ironic way. The characters have development and even better is when they show the chemistry between the characters and how two people would fall for each other.

I have 0.5 brain cell and this show was still too dumb for me.

I don't even know what to say about the plot. Nothing made sense. I am left with just questions. How did she even get into the university without applying? She took part in the tryouts, but no one knew who she was. How was she accepted? I am still confused why Bing Bing's prosopagnosia was shown as him having 3D filter vision blurred af. Or how she was curing him with kisses. Or how he was actually cured of prosopagnosia by having a mild concussion. Or how there were NO repercussions of her attending the university as a boy when she was a girl. Or how the prosopagnosia was not a problem to him unless the plot needed it like 4 times. Or how he could even play hockey with a shitty vision like that. Did the mom have DID? Her personality changed every 5 seconds...

Why does it feel like Fang Qiang Qiang and Fan Kan stole the script from a 9 years old child and pretended it's theirs? I just cannot comprehend how two adults could come up with it. Or they were drunk and wrote it in one evening as a joke, but then they saw $$ so decided to go with it.

That said, Darren Chen is good. He was the most adorable being ever. His acting was also amazing. Quite honestly, I finished the show ONLY for Bing Bing. All the butterflies I felt because of this pretty face. Damn.

Overall, the whole cast did a good job with acting, it's just the script that was painfully bad. It's obvious the writers and producers did not care at all for it to make any sense or even be close to reality. Consistency? Don't know her. Not even one google search has been done while writing and producing it.

One thing that this drama has though, is an amazing ost. I enjoyed a few songs, with Be There For You taking the crown.

I don't know guys. The last two episodes made me want to go and die. While the whole show was a mess I did find Bing Bing and Sang Tian cute and their interactions were fun. But the amount of frustration this show caused is unimaginable. If you are able to COMPLETELY turn off your brain and are in the mood for pure rom com, this will definitely satisfy you. My 0.5 brain cell was quaking with the level of bullshit presented. I'm thankful for Darren's pretty face. Dude is really something else.

As a closing statement, I will leave you with a question:
Why can no one stay truly single in romantic comedies?

This is the cutest rom-com to hit our screens in a while!

Imagine all possible tropes: false identities, gender bender, weird sickness, forced cohabitation, noble idiocy, lots of leaning in, arm grabs, accidental kisses, cringey near miss kisses but all done so well! I love every fluffy, cliche-filled episode! Despite the cheesiness, this lighted-hearted and hilarious show drew me in with its focus on the romance and friendship between the characters. For me, it's a perfect break from heavy melodramatic wuxia or xianxia shows. A few highlights for me:

1) The show is so easy to watch with no angst, major plot twist and no villains. There truly are no bad guys, not even ones that I would consider annoying. Even the mum starts off stern and forbidding but is a softie who loves her son and ultimately supports the OTP all the way.

2) The ML finds out that the FL was a girl in disguise very early on in the show!!! That makes the plot more believable as the ML plays the silent protector role and helps the FL out of awkward situations. That said, it still makes me laugh how most of the other characters do not seem to notice that this petite, lovely feminine person is not really a boy. What makes it even funnier is how obvious it is that Sang Tian is wearing lipstick, even when dressed as a boy.

3) Eye candy galore - my favourite are Darren Chen (my favourite flower boy - Hua Zi Lei in Meteor Garden!) and Li Jiu Lin whose chiseled look won me over after he played Dylan in You are My Destiny. However, the rest of the ice hockey team (seniors and freshmen) are very easy on the eyes as well, including Xiao Xiao, who's more adorable than handsome. He has the dimples to win one's heart. Even Shen Qiao Di with his unsmiling face, is icy attractive! Of course, Sebrina Chen as Sang Tian is pretty but makes the most adorable boy. I actually prefer her in short hair. Then we have Zhang Yu Xi, who's absolutely gorgeous, as well as Vivian Sung, who looks so much prettier here than in Lost Romance.

4) Great OST - the songs are well-selected and fitting for the scenes. I even downloaded YouTube Music so that I could add the songs to my playlist.

5) Meteor Garden throwback - "If apologies worked, would the police be needed?" - LOL I couldn't believe that Darren Chen as Wen Bing, actually quoted Dao Ming Si!

Acting-wise, the two leads nailed it! It is almost as though the parts were written for those two actors, and they have great chemistry together. Darren Chen played Wen Bing well with his haughty demeanor that outwardly shows arrogance and narcissism but inwardly is meant to hide his illness. As a confident, swoon-worthy, tsundere, heart-of-gold male lead, Darren really got his micro-expressions on point, and his soft gazes towards Sang Tian are just so meltingly endearing. Wen Bing can be quite the tease, and at the same time, he is not immune to the green-eyed monster. Between Sang Tian and him, there are many hilarious misunderstandings and hijinks that guarantee lots of laughter. Sang Tian, with her positive outlook and naiveté, is just too cute for her own good. She is quite the scatterbrain, but she is not your typical weak FL. She is brave and loyal, and she has no problem standing up to Wen Bing and Shen Shao Di. It's not surprising that she won over her ice hockey team-mates, coach, and everyone else. I love that Sang Tian does not try too hard to be all-male and is just rolling with it. Sebrina Chen is fabulous, playing the dual characters in both looks and attitude. What's impressive is how different she looks as the pretty boy compared to her real girl self.

Also central to the story are the secondary romances that are fun to watch. The drama also showcases the friendship among the team members. The entire cast did a great job, and there is definitely great rapport among them.

I would re-watch the whole show since I love swooning over the super-cute OTP and giggling at the antics of the team members and Sang Tian's brother.

Overall, this show is very easy to binge-watch! It is the perfect pick for when you want to relax and feast your eyes on beautiful people.

cute lighthearted rom-com but has some bothering flaws.

This is the first modern cdrama I enjoy after watching meteor garden (2018) two years ago. The reason I decided to watch this one is for obvious reasons: Darren Chen e_e he will always remind me of when I travelled to China back in 2018. Anyway, usually I am not into cdramas because I just get bored and they tend to be quite long in comparison to kdramas.

Overall I ended up loving this one despite being so cliché and I didn't plan to write a review for this one but I feel the need to mention some things that I kind of found disturbing since I haven't seen a single soul mentioning them and it's something needed to be mentioned and make them accountable, like we're in 2020, these things shouldn't happen -.-

So here comes my rant,
In general when the genre is gender bender, there's this little "confusion" of both ML and FL seen as gays from others' eyes and usually it's resolved without much comments about it and played in an 'innocent' way. Sure I can always buy that, but in this one I just couldn't handle how homophobic everything was. The on-going comments undermining homophobia just killed my respect for the writer/director. Let me give you two examples that I vividly remember, first one when second ML Wei Lian started having feelings for the FL, unknown that she was a girl, he went (kinda horrified by the idea) to see his friend (the ice skater girl) and ask for advice. What was her response? "If you have those feelings for a woman it's obviously that you're in love with her but if it happens that you're attracted to a man, it's just because you look up to that person, a role model" ... excuse me? as if a man could not fall in love with another man... The audacity of completely cancelling homosexuality as if it doesn't exist literally disgusted me :'). The other one that bothered me to the bones was when Sang Tian and Wen Bing were talking about their relationship with Wen Bing's mum and she kept mentioning that since Sang Tian is still disguised as a man, they should behave with each other like 'men' do and not like a couple... I just .... (insert the two eyes and mouth emoji here). Like yes, we all know that LGBT community in China is completely rejected (ehem..censorship...ehem) and seen as a 'bad thing' but come on, this is so homophobic that I wanted to slap whoever wrote that sh*t. It makes me feel truly sad, always thinking what if someone confused with their sexuality happened to watch this cdrama? Those ignorant comments can hurt so much, it just blows my mind...

Leaving those aside, the cdrama is really entertaining and had this Hana Kimi vibes all throughout it but yeah, I couldn't ignore what was obvious. I gave this one a 8 plainly for the fact that it made me feel like I was in 2011 watching all those gender bender dramas like Coffee Prince, To The Beautiful You, You're Beautiful... but could've been higher if it wasn't for what I mentioned.

EPISODE 21

I was gonna give this a 7, even though how hockey is portrayed is completely unrealistic, and well, really, a lot of things were super unrealistic. But because there was never any super annoying drama, I was gonna give it a pass. And then came episode 21. Episode 21 is the most degenerate episode. We don't talk about episode 21. That episode ruined my 7 rating, turning it into just a boring 6.5.

Also, the dude does so many genuine things to help the chick and protect her, yet never expected anything in return. Never even mentioned all that he did. He also didn’t blow up in anger when she called him a liar when he could’ve called her out for being a hypocrite—as she is also a liar. He lied (by omission) about a health condition; she lied about her own gender. There's a difference and a similarity in those. But she's the one that gets the angriest? The dude is warranted anger as well. And they both knew each others' secret before they revealed it so... both liars.

Binge Worthy, Light Weighted Fluff

Please watch past the first two eps before you decide if you want to continue! The first two eps were trash, but I'm glad I decided to continue anyway. This is definitely a feel-good drama. The story is nothing special and follows the cliches. Like the director of the drama even said this concept has been done before and that the only thing that makes this drama stand out is its focus on hockey. This is probably the only reason I stuck with this drama and its storyline. Nonetheless, the drama was addicting and managed to make me watch all 24 eps. I would've enjoyed this drama even more if they actually gave more focus to hockey than the romance. As for the acting, it was not the best, and cringe at times. I think this was partly due to the dubbing, which I think always ruins the naturalness of a drama. The chemistry was there between the main leads; however, all the kissing scenes were unnatural. For the music. it was nothing special but still catchy.
