I knew from the very first time this drama would be a tearful-kind of drama, so I kept on avoiding watching this drama so I wouldn’t cry (since I’m such a crybaby ^^) But since my mom couldn’t stop nagging about the drama, so I watched it together with her. AND YES, I CRIED MY EYES OUT :’(

I was able to hold in my tears on the first ten episodes, but couldn’t as soon as everybody knew Yu-ri was going to leave them again ㅠㅠ I’m bawling... This drama truly is inspiring and motivating, this drama taught me a lot of things: one, to never be selfish; two, to always cherish moments with your loved ones because you don’t know when would be the last time you see them; three, to always be grateful in life.

Their acting was spot on! The writers also did well, as well as the production team. Kudos to this wonderful and heartwarming drama. I’ll just pretend I didn’t see the negative feedbacks on this drama, because this drama was truly the most heartwarming, most inspiring, and most beautiful I’ve seen ❤️

9.5/10!⭐️

My friend actually recommended me this drama, and I thank them for it.

First of all, the story is just so touching and heartbreaking at the same time. I didn't expect to cry so much while watcjing it but there I was, crying at every episode. After a couple episodes, I learned my lesson and brought tissues with me because I just knew I was going to cry a river at some point.
Although the story was really good ad the plot was a great idea, I found myself losing interest in the last couple episodes, I have a feeling they could of maybe made it into a 12 episodes instead of 16.

Every character just gives off different vibes, and they're all so important. Min Jung ... Her character is so gloomy and grey, I felt a lot of pity for her. Also I just found out the child was played by a little boy ? Impressive !

I'm going to be honest, I didn't really pay attention to the music, sure sometimes it set the mood but it's honestly not the most important thing I want to review haha

As for the rewatch value, I personally DO NOT want to rewatch it, the heartbreak I felt while watching it was enough one time, two times is going to legitimately kill me.

Do not forget, this is my opinion, and mine only, you cannot judge me for it and please do not attack me !

Tears will be involved

I do not know if I'm in a part of my cycle that is making me emotional but actual tears started rolling down my cheeks from the halfway point of the drama (I'm not a crier while watching the drama btw)
From the very begining you know that this will not end with happiness. The story made me constantly think of the people I love and the thought of what would happen to us in this situation is really what got me.
I have to commend the actors especially to the ones who playes yuri, gwang ha, and minjeong. They really carried the show and made me root for each of them.
A major theme of the show is clearly motherhood and I really liked that it was Yuri's mother's wish that brought her back.
That being said there was a lot that I had to skip, the side stories drag a little bit and there's an overabundance of side characters that you really don't care for.
All in all I'm glad I watched it.

Hard-hitting! Emotional! Relatable!

Hi Bye, Mama! completely made me doubt human nature, from having regrets, greed to forgiveness. the annoying part of the story is that all the characters appear to be nice. they are all written nice that throughout the watch, I don't know who to side with. Which also made me doubt my beliefs and understanding. And also with the point taken, I realized a very good excellent thing on Hi Bye Mama, and it was being the main character of your own life. Love that the drama, characters, are well-written imposing that everyone's story is important.

One point is that it tackles a lot of stereotypes... in a very nice and acceptable way. Not all stepmoms are bad and they are also one's mothers as they can also love their children unconditionally, and about underdeveloped kids discriminated, and many more.

Realization hits hard when the title is Hi Bye Mama, knowing throughout the watch that it was supposed to mean with her daughter but in the finale... it was a message for her mother. That is so exceptional and I did not expect that to come. To quote this remarkable dialogue from ms midong.

"A woman who lost her husband is called a widow. A man who lost his wife is called a widower. A kid who lost his parents is called an orphan. But there's no word for a parent who lost their kid. Know why? It's because no word can describe it. There is no word in this world that can describe the excruciating pain" that is so hard-hitting and I remember this dialogue after realizing the other deeper meaning of the title, Hi Bye, Mama!

Overall i would def recommend watching this! as I know everyone can realize, can learn, a thing or two from how thoughtful the script, dialogues, and plots it brings

Sweet

It really deserves a higher rating,

I love Cha Yu-ri personality in this drama. She want that her ex-husband is happy, even if she will be alone. Seo-woo is sugar-sweet too.
The story is really heartwarming. You really cry all the time in this drama. Right from the start, you are drawn into the world of Cha Yu-ri. There are numerous sad as well as funny incidents.
The quality of the drama is really good again, as you can see from the many locations that have been used.

In summary, a very good series, with a great cast and a great story.

Watching a melo drama is not my cup of tea. This is a tear jerker I cried watching every episode but still enjoyed. I feel all the characters are good and optimistic but stuck in a bad situation. Loved and enjoyed every episode.

Every mom should watch and enjoy this drama. My most favourite character is Yuri's mom. Though the ending is realistic it would be even better Min jong met someone who loves her and Yuri staying alive. Anyways I felt worth watching this emotional roller coaster.

As the title says, my acting queen is back and glowing. I love the character she chose to play because thd dynamic between them is great. The daughter is so cute and I live to see how the story will continue. Why does a review have to be more than 500 characters? I just wanted to gush about this drama and then go. Stupid show with a good start

The biggest problem with this show is that they made a 16-episode show with only 3 episode worth of content. They resort to filling the episodes with meaningless side characters and their stories that don’t amount to anything substantial. They shamelessly try to distract you by showing endless flashbacks and repeating the same scenes over and over again from slightly different angle to fill the run time. I keep seeing this in other K-dramas, too. Why do they have to be 16 episodes? Is this from some K-drama constitution that everything has to be 16 episodes long no matter what?

The other problem is that characters don’t act like normal human beings. I get that this is a show about a dead person coming back to life, etc. The dead wife can’t control herself every time her daughter’s around seemingly because she missed her daughter so much. She forgets everything that’s going on around her. The husband might as well be dead because he’s detached from everything including his daughter, the new wife and his job. I’m not sure how he’s still employed. The new wife has no personality whatsoever and doesn’t talk much. The mother-in-law pretends like she doesn’t miss her granddaughter. Characters keep making unrealistic decisions all across the board. I do like the actors in the show and I feel like they could’ve done better with better story and directions.

You also get to see the K-drama staples like needless misunderstandings, incredible coincidences (it’s incredibly amazing how the characters somehow run into each other no matter what/where/when all the time over and over again), long stares, multi-genre confusion and so on. In fact, everything is turned up to 150%. Man, I had such a high hopes for this show based on the first episode.

I’ll continue to watch to see what will come out of this. The show is pretty good when it’s good but when it’s bad, it’s really bad and frustrating. Sigh...

A heartfelt drama about loss and acceptance

Hi Bye, Mama was one of the first K-drama series I watched. It was such a shocker series for me, unlike anything I've seen in western tv series.

The story is just perfect, about loss and reconciliation, acceptance, grief, regret, but also joy. The series has so much heart that I admit that this series made me sob the most, it really touches you.
It makes you truly think about the most painful things people go through, the loss of someone close.

The actors did an amazing job, all of them.

I did not know what I was going to watch when I started watching it, but I'm glad I decided to watch it "blindly".
It still sits in me to this day since I saw it earlier this year.

It's one of my top series to recommend to people, at least people who are open to drama series.

First, the content! I would never think a drama could bring a lot in my life because there was so much to learn. We are used to take our lives for granted. Not only our lives but also others' lives too while we are not gonna live forever. I watched this drama since they aired 1st episode so the week between they air it got me asking myself "is this the life I really want? If I die right now, will I have some regrets? What can I do to have the least of regrets? If my relatives die right now, did I spend enough time with them or cherish them enough to not have regrets? Was I a good person or did I try to be it? Was I good enough with myself? (Because I wish to not spend my remaining time worrying about hating myself, I would regret it) This drama made me think of these a lot. I know some people would say they did not like it because it was realist but you know, even though it's a "drama", we still need to learn a lot from some and that's that. Life goes on and we need to move forward. Life has always been this way and I appreciated this drama for depicting this reality to the fullest. If you are not ready to face this reality, I doubt you'll like it.

About the content. I really loved the acting. To be honest, the emotions were perfectly conveyed and we felt each character's sincerity. I usually complain about some dramas for not showing clearly the reason why one character act a certain way but I think this drama shows otherwise because we got all the details we needed to understand each character's point of view. There were no real evil expect life's injustice, I would say? So that's a good reason to watch this drama, we can relate to it. Although I was a bit skeptical at first that the "supernatural" aspect would make it unpleasant and unrealistic, everything felt real, to me. It was neither slow nor quick, it was at a perfect pace.

So don't hesitate and watch this drama !!!
