THE Romcom of 2022

Binged it in three sittings, and it's really that good. The plot is solid, the writing is neat, the casts can really act down to supporting characters and cameos, even when in the background they still act in character!

I found it on IQiyi's most popular list, and it truly deserves that first spot. When they say romcom, this is the drama they're looking for, and it's really lighthearted, even with the mysteries and all.

Comedic enjoyers like me will absolutely love this drama. It has all the good things: comic, timing, standup styles, I think this drama kinda feels like a sitcom?

The romance is also enjoyable, the chemistries are off the chart and beyond, and I like how all the characters are lovable. The pace is not too fast not too slow, and the ending wraps them all beautifully. I would recommend!

I have fallen for this drama! The characters are simply precious! I laughed so much with Bai Yi Fei , Zhao Cuo and his father! Especially the scene in front of San Qi's bedroom door! My favourite!Their acting was outstanding! I couldn't get enough of Yi Fei's expressions! Priceless! And the girls - so endearing , lively and sweat! He Zhen the poor, good villain, was also amazing, btw the actor was so attentive to Esther when climbing the steps! The wet nurse and the two magistrates were beyond hilarious!
Everyone did an incredible job: from the servants to the generals and the lords! One of the best comedies ever, lighthearted, yet serious at times and thoroughly entertaining! Loved every minute of it! Waiting for season 2! Let's sponsor them ourselves!

Like what many other reviewers have mentioned, this is a great little drama to fill in a gap if you've got time and or waiting for another drama to finish airing. What attracted me was the handsome ML but honestly I think that everyone in the main cast did a great job. The rating of 8.1 on here is a little overstated so I would say.

The story is mediocre to say the least and had HUGE plot holes but it's watchable. I'm so very thankful to the writers as they made our FL smart (sometimes) and able to contribute a large amount to the overall story. I think the one thing that ticked me off was the fact that the FL was smart when she wanted to be and not consistently smart. This combined with her childlike naivety did get on my nerves but thankfully it wasn't too overwhelming.

I know the FL gets a lot of hate for various reasons but I personally feel she has some great talent for acting. Even though she is rich, at least she is working hard at doing something she enjoys. I know of many other actors/actresses with less talent but are in leading roles so I'm glad to see someone who actually looks natural while on screen.

The ML is a great actor who I look forward to following in the future. For such a rookie, I think he cried absolutely beautifully. I'm a sucker for guys that can convey emotions that fiercely. Special mention to the second FL as she was more of a badass than the main FL.

Would recommend this drama for anyone looking for a light hearted romantic comedy. Re-watch value is not high but would re-watch certain cute moments or scenes if I was bored.

Light hearted and fluffy!

A very simple and light hearted drama which was such a fun watch! I wrote a review because I think it deserves more recognition and notice. Storyline wise, this drama trumps tons of other dramas which are getting more recognition but I honestly don't think are that good. This is a hidden gem! It's filled with humour and silly moments. The characters are all very cute and wholesome and I especially loved the second lead pairing!

It starts out very fluffy and simple but the storyline actually took an interesting turn. The main couple are super cute and bicker tons and it was funny to watch their interactions. I actually really liked the second ML who was just a little innocent dork. His love story later with the second FL is sooo cute! The initial plot seems like it'll just be a funny romcom all the way but the characters actually begin to investigate murders and eventually reveal a conspiracy that has been happening for years. I liked that even though it was a simple romcom, it still added that extra element of crime and investigation to make it more interesting.

I highly recommend this drama if you're after an easy, no-fuss, minimal feels drama! Just the sort of drama that makes you laugh and lifts up your spirits!

Very light drama ,most part of the drama has comedy scenes ..first episode have lots funny scene ,second episode shown both character look little insane . so middle of the some episodes looked little boring but then story come into track .Childhood promises then adulthood misunderstanding and confusion remain till second last episode ,so this thing maintain the grip of the drama .
Secondly what I liked about the drama that there is not much restriction for the king's son as well as upper-class sons ,they can do whatever they wanted to do ,they can put theirs wish infront of their parents. That is good.
Everybody acting is good .
As a whole I liked watching this .
Background music is good and it is little match with Globin's drama's music.

A good laugh

The story itself is nothing special, it's typical and cliche. The acting is mediocre at best, and sometimes they go over the top and overact, but that is what makes this drama great. The overacting isn't too overdone, and it goes well with the overall feel of the drama. This drama gives a good mix of comedy, romance, crime and mystery.

I actually really like this drama, and I've re-watched it a couple times now for a good laugh at the goofiness of it all. It's not all laughter, there's some seriousness to it as there are crimes that need to be solved, blossoming romances, and an overall mystery that needs to be uncovered. I also like that the drama is only 24 episodes long, so re-watching it doesn't take that long.

Tian San Qi is sweet and naive, but she courageously follows clues to find her childhood love. She is smart and solves crimes, while remaining compassionate and loyal to her friends. Zhao Cuo is the typical arrogant, rich boy that gambles and frequents brothels who ends up changing his ways. Bai Yi Fei is my favorite character, especially in the beginning when he first meets Tian San Qi, and he does what he can to protect her. When He Ruo Yao joins the gang, she becomes fast friends with Tian San Qi because they are a lot a like. I love all of their interactions, and sometimes I just can't help but laugh at how stupid it is, but that's what makes this drama great! Adding in Duan Xue Wei and He Zhen, the romances and drama between all 6 is just fun to watch it all unfold.

Gong Jun's Doppelganger and Tigger Too!

The ML is Gong Jun's doppelganger. I mean, if they wore the same wig, they could double for each other on set. Especially the way this ML moves his jaw. I know that's a weird thing to notice, but I thought they were for sure the same person when I first saw this.

The ML can act! Yes, his character is super annoying, arrogant, unlikeable at first, but it grows on you like mold. Not sure why his character was made to be so unpleasant, but this didn't take away from the fact that this actor is really quite good.

The FL, however, is the human form of Tigger, from Winnie the Pooh. Watching her is as pleasant as nails down a chalkboard. Yes, bouncy, bouncy, fun fun fun fun fun......not! I cannot stand this FL. She is everything I can't stand in a FL, from her clingy, needy personality, to her bubbly, cutesy immaturity.

The SFL and SML are, by contrast, the best characters in the drama, along with the ML's dad. Unfortunately, I can't be bothered with caring about a secondary couple. I know that's my own failing. I just can't divide up my attention between two couples for some reason. This happens in every drama for me, I can only care about one coupling.

The actual production is well done. They wrote a smart, capable FL, but then gave the part to an actress who is the antithesis of smart, capable, unusual, or interesting in any way. I'm guessing because of her agent. What was the point of writing a smart FL, if you are going to give it to the most Mary Sue actress you can possibly find?

So, overall, I'm giving this production a relatively high rating, because it at least aspired to being different, fun, and better quality than 80% of costume dramas, but was let down when it came to casting of the FL, and to the usual pitfall of too many episodes, which had to be filled with whatever clichè costume drama tropes they could come up with to fill in the time alloted.

I'm not sure how to put what I'm feeling into words, but I'll try. I decided to watch this drama after quickly reading the synopsis and seeing that the rating is pretty high (Viki). I immediately realized what type of drama it would be within 5 minutes of starting the show, but I decided to persist because the plot seemed interesting. The sound effects and 'comedic' editing told me all I needed to know. I've survived 2012-14 K-dramas and several Taiwanese dramas, this isn't my first rodeo.

They describe the MFL as 'quirky'... that's a funny way of spelling insufferable. I do understand that they're all supposed to be 18 and relatively immature but, the antics between the leads are more like preteens bickering than young adults. I'd like to think that that is bad writing (though, the acting was also...). They chose to write her in as ditzy and naive, but also amazing at examining corpses(and crime scenes??). I'm not sure how this leads to her becoming a pseudo criminal investigator. I genuinely said aloud to myself, "What is going on? What's happening?" whilst watching her turn into Sherlock Holmes. The criminals were also so willing and ready to confess to being murderers like damn. Did she ride the Mystery van to the scene? I've only seen that level of honesty in Scooby Doo, Side note but I would like to say the moment I saw Leimo I said, "That's a guy." (if the actor/actress is trans however, I'm really sorry).

Moving on, this show had Sailor Moon/Hannah Montana level of disguises. It was actually funny/insulting. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a good gender-bend drama, but at least they mention how feminine the person looks. In this drama, the second male lead goes through a Mulan type of sexual assessment. The music video was one of three scenes that got a genuine laugh from me. The other two being when they threw the girl from the bridge and the armpit scene.

Now knowing that the show is not meant to be too serious, I can ignore many things. What I can't ignore however, is the flute scene with Xuewei. I was in shock they thought they could get away with a solid piece of wood. I just want to know what was the budget; why couldn't they afford a faux flute (my doctor gave me one as a reward when I behaved in visits, I know it isn't hard)? I was just so offended, I paused in disbelief.

I'm going to end it here before I write an essay. I almost finished this drama. I was determined to, but I know how it's going to end lmao. I don't have it in me to sit through four more episodes and witness the clownery. That being said, it seems that others enjoyed this. So if you're into corny/cheesy dramas, I'd recommend. Also, the music slapped. Straight bangers alone, especially when Leimo played/sang.

You have to wait to get to the better parts of the story

There is the romantic comedy part of this series and the ancient-forensics-investigations part of this series. They come together quite nicely in the end, but the series is quite uneven as a whole. It takes several episodes before the main female character even gets to do what she's good at (examining corpses and solving mysteries). In other words, if rom-com and somewhat silly humor isn't your cup of tea and you are watching for the mysteries, you have quite a bit to put up with. I also feel that while the basic concepts behind the mystery cases are interesting enough, they get too little coverage.

The romance part of the story isn't really great. I actually liked the dynamics between the middle-aged couple (the main male character's father and his lover) more than the main couple.

The main characters are rather likeable in themselves, but somehow the couple dynamics are not that endearing. Zhao Cuo and Tian Sanqi are the main couple, but their devotion to promises they have made when they are but ten years old doesn't exactly seem like love. Especially when, through some twist of fate, they don't even realize that they have made contradictory promises. Admirably, Zhao Cuo is more decisive when it comes to (potentially) breaking his childhood promise to marry someone. Sanqi may irritate some viewers with her obstinacy in wanting to keep her childhood promise despite being in love with someone else.

Jack Lok's Bai Yifei is absurdly silly and cute, but the cutest part of his romance He Ruoyao turns out to be when he thinks he has fallen for a man because she has been disguising herself as a man. Sometimes even his frenemyship with Zhao Cuo is more entertaining (like the scene when he does a kabedon to Zhao Cuo when giving him advice.

The series is ultimately entertaining enough if you just want a leisurely watch. Just don't expect really well developed mysteries or seriously moving romance.

A REAL Romantic-Comedy Series

It's a low budget costume drama but It will not waste your time...
If you want a drama with very light story... and you just want to laugh and love... This CDrama is designed for you....
It consist of Slapstick comedy, Detective Conan style of Investigation and Revelations, Overacting actors/actress, and plot twists.
STORY: I like the story. Its not complicated... I love the way the ML fall in-love with the jolly/weird FL... but the script is a disaster...
ACTING: It's a Rom-Com series so I understand why the actors and actresses are over acting... This series is made to make us laugh.
MUSIC: Nothing special...
REWATCH VALUE: I can't find a reason to watch it again...
OVERALL: It will better if they have different Director and Script Writer lol
Most of the time.. It looks like a high school stage drama...

Childhood Sweetheart Storyline with lots of fluff, comedy and mystery

I had this one my watchlist for a while now because I adore the two main actors but forgot about the drama. SUPER GLAD I picked it up cause I watched it all in one day LOL

Seriously this drama was sooo good and was MY CUP OF TEA. It had a the right amount of fluff, angst, love and mystery.

I loved all the characters, they were so amazing and none of them were problematic!!
In the beginning, obviously the ML was quite annoying because he really bullied the FL but we got to see him open up and we got to see main character grown for him. I love the actor and he did a great job but wish we had a bit more focus on him and his storyline of be/becoming his title.

The FL was enjoyable to watch, of course Esther really fit the role well and she was so funny. I loved how independent she was and how she always stayed true to herself. I definitely feel like most people misunderstood her when she went into the capitol. Personally I loved that she left with the Young Lord lol because we got the best of both worlds!!!
To be honest, I’m not a big fan or love triangles or love squares but I actually liked what they did with this love square. The evil SFL was obliviously the villain and the actress did so good - literally wanted to slap her every time she came on screen lol. But glad she wasn’t those annoying clingy SFLs and in the end she got her redemption/good ending for her evilness.

Moving on to the SML- GOSH I really liked him!! And really thought he really was the FL’s childhood lover. SERIOUSLY the writers who wrote this storyline need a raise because this is the first time in a while where the plot twists were so good it threw me off. I was not expecting all of those plot twists. BUT can we just get a moment to appreciate the SML because the poor guy’s life is just so sad. I’m so happy that he stayed good even though he really could have done evil things.

The second couple were just so couple; I loved their scenes and they were just so adorable and funny!!
Also is this the first drama where all the adults are actually supportive loving parents????!!!!
The King, the ML’s father and the FL’s parents were all unproblematic and this was just so refreshing.

Overall, this series was so good and I loved most of every minute of it!! The storyline in the beginning was a bit slow but as it progressed it got better and the end was just jaw dropping- although I do wish they did more at the end because it seems they rushed it a bit. This is definitely a must watch!
