Full of Plot twist

One phrase to describe the drama - Full of Plot twist. If you love thinking what will happen and how a certain event comes off, you should not miss this show. If you're a person that have a hard time of forgiving logic lapses, this drama is not for you. The character that I like the most is Cheon Seo Jin played by Kim So-yeon. With her epic facial expression and agressive image, no doubt that she bagged best actress from Baeksang. From being a cold hearted agent in Iris(2009) trapped in a one sided love(which I really root for) to a furious other woman in Penthouse absolutely show how versatile actress she is. Overall, with the drama's projection of the plot and theme "War in Life", this suspense drama will have you at the edge of your seat.

The worst things parents can do to protect their children

Likes
1. The over the top craziness was fun, loved that the story was predictable yet unpredictable. Some of the scenes are sickening, some makes you want to throw things to your TV, and others just make your blood boil.
2. Loved the tandem of Dantae and Seojin. I'm sure they'll continue to wreak havoc until S3.
3. Everyone is so bad that they're so good.
4.Suryeon is the "good guy" but for me she is the worst. Just goes to show "Revenge is never the answer".
5. Likewise Yoonhee is pitiful but she can only blame herself for always choosing the wrong side and making poor decisions.
6. The kids were such bullies but I can only blame their parents for not raising them right. Parents think that by always defending them even if they're wrong and covering up their mistakes are about "protecting" their children, but that's just making their children weak and not able to stand up for themselves, and not learning the difference between right and wrong. And just teaching them to be awful people.

Dislikes
Not much. I adjusted my viewing lens so that i expected the worst in every single character and that became the reason i loved and continued watching the show.

Rating: 9/10

Hoping there will be new characters in season 2 so that the story will remain fresh and fun (and intense!)

This drama definitely should be on your watch list!!!
All the acting here is really good, the cast take you to a journey and you will feel like you are at Hera Palace 😭

The drama can be Heavy and emotionally draining but it's a must watch.

Story: 10/10- this is because it is fresh and the writer doesn't long things out and gets straight to the point.

Acting: 10/10 - the cast done a good job portraying their characters. They will make you feel sorry for them, hate them despise them and like them again. The acting is sometimes OTT but that the just the character and how they are suppose to be which is different and fresh.

Music: 8/10- there is not many OSTs but I like the music background. It is just right and dramatic

Rewatch Value: 8/10: I would rewatch this but it will just make me upset. Best to rewatch when you want to feel sad and angry haha

Will recommend this drama

Drama with full complicated problem

Penthouse is one of dramas with full of intrict. I love watching each episode since it gives me challange to controll my anger.
All the characters in this drama show how complicated problem faced by parents to raise children especially in almost Asian countries. As Asian, I consider that how parents have important role in appointing their children's future. Parents usually have authority in choosing what their children should be. This drama shows exactly how high social family manages their children's education and their ambition to their children.
From episode 1 until 21, I can't stop feeling curious with surprising even in each scene. The plot has consistently full of surprise. The acting of roles really blends with each characters. They show their ego, selfishness, ambition clearly. I could feel really full of hatred to Seo Jin and Dae Tae, however, I could also take a pity to Yoon Hye. In the middle of this drama, I can see clearly that each character shows the true color of the ambition. I love the plot!
One thing that made me wonder is how can Lagon be described as a very lovely man to his adoptive sister Min Soel. At the first scene, she was deported from America because she comitted as criminal. At this scene, Logan Lee seems not doing anything. It was not described much about how finally Logam found her sister was innocent.
But, I still think that this drama is highly recommended drama. Can't wait for Penthouse 2.

ITS AMAZING BUT WTF IS HAPPENING!!!

This drama is a classic korean 'MAKJANG' so common sense and realistic scenarios should be thrown out of the window. That being said this drama has little to no plot holes and the characters are uniquely written. However, some might find most of the characters frustrating and irritating to watch. THE TWINS and THE FEMALE LEAD were the only characters i find interesting, the rest can go suck a **** ehem

This drama is all over the place with so many things happening suddenly and randomly. One good thing about this is that no episodes are boring and shit gets real every episode. This drama is UNIQUE and INTERESTING and it has its own flaws but if you dont mind that then this makjang will be PERFECT FOR YOU!!!

spoilers are NOT included in this review

This drama is really good and deserves so much attention. I have to mentioned that is a emotional roller-coaster and you will watch and hear the craziest stuff. After the second season is more enjoyable. Most people like this drama for the following reasons:
1) the cast is really cute ;)
2) also the acting is so good
3) you have to be ready to hear crazy stuff.
4) if you are not feeling comfortable crying in front of your friends, parents etc. please watch it alone because as i mentioned before its a emotional roller coaster.

sick people, entertaining, over the top

This is the strangest drama I have watched. It is over the top. The characters are despicable. The acting is too dramatic. But it sure is entertaining to watch.

Having said that, as the episodes progressed, I came to hate almost every single character. Whilst I understood the motivations behind their actions in the beginning, it soon became simply too outlandish and they all felt like cartoonish villains. Can't believe how all the main characters become worse. Even those that started out as 'good' or lets say with less shades of grey. As viewers there's nothing for us to do but watch this train wreck of a drama poke its characters as they become increasingly immoral and criminal lol.

I hated the children since the beginning, esp Bae Rona, because she was driving her mom crazy and into desperation. Like how entitled can one be! And Han Eun Byul was creepy as hell. I wished that was the last we would see of her when she took the pills but unfortunately she recovered.

Bae Rona's mother, Yoon Hee - goodness, by the end of the drama, she was the one I think I despised the most because wtf! Such a bloody turncoat.

The one who was consistently evil and over the top - Chef Seo Jin - I expected nothing from her but villainous actions and she delivered. Her partner in crime, Joo Dan Tae, was another sicko who played his part well. I didn't expect anything from these two so I wasn't pissed off at their character progression.

When I first started out, I thought I would like to watch the other two seasons but I was well and truly sick of all of them by the time I finished this first season. No more of them for me!

not lying when i say its one of the best shows ive ever watched

aside from mr sunshine, i genuinely think this is one of the best tv shows to ever exist.

the story is amazing and very captivating, just making you want to know more. this show also has the best plot twists ive seen in kdramas. i felt it was very welly thought out when they were writing this. this show made me discover emotions i didnt even know existed. you just felt pity for every character, no matter if they were a good or bad person. i loved that idea of messed up households in a rich place like hera palace. they all had big problems that werent easy fixes, not just one person was to blame.

the acting is literally oscar worthy. all of them, even the younger cast did such a great job. kim soyeon and uhm kijoon are such good stand outs. they both executed the roles of cheon seojin and joo dantae very well, and its expected as they are both great at acting. lee jiah and eugene also did amazing. in conclusion they all are great actors and deserve oscars.

i totally loved the concept of the cheong ah arts school with the opera singing. the music is very memorable to me, i always remember that track you would always hear at the end of each episode or when there was a plot twist etc(lmao i don’t remember what its called, its the most popular one i think). the music just put the whole show together i feel.

i would always rewatch this if i was in a drought era. very intense show to keep watching but it works for me. theres also something to laugh about maybe once in a while, just that basic comedic relief.

but yeah thats pretty much all i have to say. the moral of the story is that i totally recommend watching this, if you could handle all that emotion… so yes i warn you before you try getting into it that there is a lot of twists and turns that can just make you tear up.

BEST DRAMA OF THE YEAR

This drama is thrilling and provides lots of twists which in turn makes the plot engage more with the viewers. The phenomenal acting has also proven to be full of emotions making us enraged from time to time within the drama. WARNING: DO NOT WATCH IF EASILY ENRAGED OR SNSITIVE! The drama follows up with the death of a young girl trying her best to make money after being falsely accused of stealing for her adoptive family. Shim Su Ryeon then finds out that the members of the penthouse all colluded with the murder and cleanup of her daughter (which she finds out after her death). She then begins plotting her revenge carefully but is disturbed by the Physical Education teacher Go Hu Dong which actually turns out to be a false identity under the name Logan Lee (famous, rich chaebol). They then decide to join hands in finding out the real murderer of her daughter Min Seol A after she finds out that Logan Lee was her daughter's adoptive brother.

This drama contains affairs, violence, revenge, and murder. *WATCH ON OWN ACCORD

wowow

so far i'm on episode 18 and omg this show gives me trust issues now, i mean i always had it but after seeing Oh Yoon Hee (the "sweet" one) it makes me realize that literally anyone can turn a blind eye on you. i'm gonna say there's no good person in this drama everyone was literally evil here. i'm gonna say the most sane person in this drama was probably Ha Yoon Chul and Min Hyuk's mom lol.

i'm not done the drama yet and i'm still continuing it. it's actually pretty good, tho it makes me get mad but that just shows that this drama is worth the watch! :)

No one in this drama is sane and me who watch this also went insane.

Firstly, I want to point out that the synopsis here is a bit misleading. Reading it, I first thought Yoon Hee tries to become the queen of penthouse and battles with Soo Ryun. So, I'd like to add a not so spoiler-free synopsis before actual review.

Soo Ryun is deceived by her husband for years and her aim is to get revenge upon it. It's more appropriate to say Yoon Hee is the one who can do everything for her daughter despite her poverty while Seo Jin is quite self-oriented that she wants her daughter to succeed for her sake (to gain favor from her father). Currently Yoon Hee's aim is just to live in the Hera Palace (in a high society) so that no one will look down on her daughter. She may turn out to have desire on becoming the queen of penthouse (the top- floor unit of Hera Palace where Soo Ryun lives) in the later episodes (or not) but she is teamed up with Soo Ryun so far. Even if it happens in the future, I think it's not appropriate to add the very far plot in the synopsis. And even though the drama is titled 'Penthouse', I don't really see the plot is focus on it.

Normally I am not a fan of makjang dramas as it's so frustrating to watch for the first half of the whole drama. But here, the pace is so fast that the revenge things happened since ep 4 or 5. (I don't remember exactly). So, I want to say this drama gives you a balance of frustration and satisfaction alternatively.  Warning: the level of both feeling would be very high, as this drama is on another level. Every character is insane indeed. But the writer inserts hilarious (yet insane) side characters and ridiculous scenes here and there for the viewers not to burn up all the time.

Beside this, (from my past experience of makjang dramas), the main character falls into one of the two stereotypes: the ones who are pure, kindhearted but hopelessly naive so always hurt by the villains and the ones who are just too brave, stubborn, and fight powerful villians in a silly way without realising the situations. The later is worse that they have to pay the price and suffer twice. It's more frustrating to watch them than to watch how evil are the villians, right? What makes this drama unique is that Soo Ryun uses her brain very well to give lesson on the evils. She is the type of heroine I'd love to see in the future dramas. Yoon Hee, Bae Rona and Min Seol Ah also fit the later stereotype I mentioned. That's why Seol Ah had to give her life in my opinion. But I foresee Yoon Hee and Rona will have character development and smart enough to fight against the villians.

The main heroine is such a gem like I said. The storyline is pretty solid, sophisticated and not boring at all. The casts are so good that you will hate the evils with full of your heart. (I am fangirling over them on IG) I highly highly recommend this drama to you for above reasons plus the Hera Palace, interior designs, fashions, cinematic shots: all these costy things are worth watching. The only thing what a shame is that there's no OST in this Opera musical drama. (Or did I miss? I only heard instrumental BGM in some scenes.) And don't get me wrong with the rewatch value because I rarely rewatch any dramas as I have to catch up new ones.
