a road trip of character development

Perseverance is what is needed for this drama. Just know that everything works out in the end. This is a drama that you will feel pain through angst and toxicity in the moment; but when you reflect back, you realize that it was just realistic. It takes a lot of work from others and self to turn a toxic bottomless pit into a productive/contributing/positive member of society.
I would have rated "story" higher (maybe a 9 or 9.5) because of its well constructed character development (also the FL and ML are mature but cute...nothing dumb about their love story), but I had to penalize for the internal pain the toxic characters caused me.
And while the story does live up to the "drama" genre, I don't think anything is exaggerated. If anything, maybe just the concentration of toxicity of several characters seems too coincidental.
As a warning, I wouldn't attempt to binge this drama in one go. You might accidentally punch your computer. But if you have patience and appreciate a realistic drama with believable character development, sit back and enjoy in small doses.

My guilty pleasure of 2020

OMG I loved and hated this drama so much!

The story is pretty great, and shows how simple actions have big impacts on life.

This drama is about family. The dynamics, the relationships between parents and children, brother and sisters, and even in-laws.

It was a crazy ride, and the FL is such a strong woman, so compassionate and forgiving (a bit too much forgiving, if I may say ... I got really angry about how mistreated she was by her family).

The main couple was super cute and mature. After they fell in love, there was no going back, no stupid break up, just a pure and strong bond. So cool and refreshing to watch!

There are a lot of other side stories that are really good too, and they are responsible for the different perspectivesyou get in the drama. There is always a story that makes you sympathize with a character. They are about redemption, about being too proud, and even blind to the reality. All characters have such a nice growth throughout the drama, it's really nice and it did not get boring. The plot doesn't drag at all.

I definitely recommend it! (I don't remember commenting so much on the comment sections... hahahahah)

I liked it somehow but the in-laws are reaaaaaaally infuriating for a lot of parts in the series.

Worth the watch but not worth a rewatch for me.

(@ Episode 8)
I’m still watching this series but I can’t help making a review on how annoying the old people are. They have such a close minded thinking. I’m starting to feel frustrated for the FL and ML. I hope it gets better after a few more episodes.

I’ve seen a lot of c-dramas where the parent in-laws are not accepting of the wife/husband, but this series take it on another level. I would have dropped this series if the FL is a not pilot and the ML is a not doctor. I prefer the scenes when it’s just the two of them or when the scenes are focused on their jobs. Thumbs up for that.

Will update my review if I get a better opinion of this. Hopefully, soon.

(@ Episode 20)
I’m still wondering why I’m not dropping this.

How thick headed is the FL’s brother? I can’t take his attitude towards his sister. It’s too much. Yes, he feels inferior to her because she’s successful and all, but there’s a limit to everything. And the father just keep on spoiling him. Ugh. It’s so frustrating.

Cross fingers, it might get better soon.

The chemistry between the FL and ML is what keeps me on watching. They are just so cute.

(Completed)
It got better towards the end which was obviously going to happen. Anyway, it was okay for me. I really loved the fluff of the OTP tho.

I work in the aviation industry so I really like watching dramas that has airplanes in it. Plus medical dramas are my weakness. FL and ML made me want to finish this series so a really big round of applause for them.

Watching this series made me think that there really are toxic people everywhere, closer than you think. Lesson to be learned from this is to make a stand. Don’t let people abuse your kindness, even if they are you’re family. It’s better for them to learn their mistakes from within rather than being ridiculed by outsiders.

So Realistic........I couldn't stop watching

Some people were complaining about how frustrating it was to watch, especially crazy family dynamics. Well, imagine living it like I did and not just watching it. Watching this drama, was like watching my own family life from years ago go by. The only difference was that my life did not end as well as the main characters................my parents never changed.

Many who are Asians can really relate to this drama, it is rivoting, I couldn't stop watching, could stop yelling at my TV. But overall, it is really a "feel good" drama with a good ending. Highly recommend.

Everyone of us is once a Guan YuQing or Xu QingFeng

At first i am really curious about this drama, i saw the trailer and i said to myself, why not?
And boom! I didn't know I'll find a gem in this drama, although at times, ah, no, most of the time, i wanted to punch YuQing's brother and father whenever they "bully" her, but what cna i do? I can't stop watching it.
A drama with lots of romantic scenes that made me feel giddy.. ?. Although the leads are not so young anymore, they have this chemistry that can make you feel the love and understanding between two people who have problems in their families. See how the 2 of them fight for their love, solve problems and share the burdens each of them carries in their heart.
Ah, and by the way, this is a family drama, but with alot of romance from the leads. So enjoy!

Well worth watching

Even though the family dynamics are beyond frustrating to watch, it’s a good drama. At times I was so exasperated watching the outrageously controlling and obsessive parents that I thought to simply stop watching, but I hung in there and am glad I did. While all of the family dysfunction and dramatics unfold, so do a few love stories. The character portrayed as the doctor’s mother was one to hate, but the actress playing the role did an extraordinary job in her role. Her acting was extraordinary!

The drama end with a good note .hatsoff to frontline warriors

I watched this drama because I like the male lead . He is so cute and romantic .
But this drama is not a romantic one .
It is about family .
How family treat their children ,for some families their son is important than their daughter .
Whereas some families think that they take right decisions for their children .
To make them listen they sometime do emotional blackmail.
Drama has some romantic scene and jealousy one also but this drama tilted towards the different difficulties faced by each member of the families.
Drama end with a good scene ,totally respect to frontline warriors

This drama contains really exasperating family members - I am sure that at one point, you know of somebody who was like this in your family. Very realistic but a bit exaggerated. The angle regarding the brother took a really long time before it could turn for the better. There are episodes where you will really feel anger and experience some hair pulling.

However, I love the love story of the main leads. The story showed their development as a character and as a couple. And unlike most cdramas, once the leads decided, they persevered with their love.

A shot of realism family life

It is a very well written drama about family. Each character has a story and each family has individual story of what happens in an every day life. Two family become cross with each others path and as the path cross they fight and also help each other. The drama tell you about a love of parents and decisions that parents make that can cause harm to their children and their family. The children that get spoil and need to grow up and the children that get verbal abuse or the obsession that a parent has with their child that won't let then grow and leave the nest. The story is very well written for every character and you can relate to these characters. The actors performance is the best and the chemistry that is between is very good. Each day I could not wait to see what happen next and I felt like I was part of the family and everything they were going thru. A very realist view of family. I hope you can enjoy it as much as I have.

Do not waste your time

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. IT ISNT WORTH IT

This is my one and only review, and I had to write one to warn you away from this disaster

ALL the characters except the ML, and FL are unbearable. It is not worth your time to see if it gets any better. Sure they do make changes but only after 20 episodes of straight nonsense and it doesnt even get much better. DO NOT let these people lie to you, this is not a realistic portrayal of toxic family life. Its over the top toxicity and gas-lighting to the point of disgust. ALL THE CHARCTERS except the aforementioned SUCKED. For LONG UNBEARABLE stretches you have nobody to root for. Its all bad. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. The parents suck, the in-laws suck, and the entire family sucked. The only person making reasonable and real choices was the brother in law and he had a terrible ending, dont do it to yourself. The ending isnt worth the nonsense you have to drudge through, its cliché and you're not missing out.

10/10 for the OTP and nothing for the pitiful brother

Oh, what a Jackal and Hyde of a show. I loved the developing love story of the OTP. It is one of the sweetest and most adorable love story of older characters I have seen in c-dramas. It was refreshing to see both leads being highly skilled and highly paid individuals, no power play here, thank you very much. I would ship them any day and once they confessed (swoon!), it is just so satisfying to watch them being loving, steadfast and understanding. Their support for each other should be a model for any relationships.
On the other hand, the family drama was just too much (maybe it was realistic but it was very tiring). We are talking about 2.5 dysfunctional families and it made merry hell with the lives of the two main leads. The antagonist was the FL's younger brother. When I was thinking of words to describe him, I came up with useless, needy, pitiful, bully, scheming, douchebag and many more. I think you get the idea. The problem then spread to the 2OTP which was the brother and his girlfriend. If he wasn't such an annoying character, that romance would have been quite sweet too. Unfortunately, his actions and behaviours just tainted everything he touched. The 2FL actually had the insights to call him out on several occasions but his father and the 2FL's father both enabled him and it went on for far too long.
This leisurely pacing was problematic. The show is 44 (or 46) episodes long and some of the main plots went on for many episodes. The annoying brother subplot started in ep.1 and lasted over 36 episodes. I ended up doing my own director's cut by skipping a lot of the scene involving him. It would have been ok if the subplots were more original. Alas, we had the whole cliché collection, meddling mother, stubborn/unthinking father, femme fatale, get-rich-quick schemes, love triangles and more. They were all standard tropes with their intentions telegraphed well in advance. The show wasn't exactly draggy but it just weave all these plots around each other and strolled down several garden paths.
There was little doubt that we will get happy endings, this is a morality tale after all. The last few episodes were largely fan service and tied everything up (mostly with pink bows). Lots of resolutions, reflections, apologies, tears and hugs. Here I didn't mind the slower pacing and I gave the show extra marks for that. The last half of the final episode was very jingoistic and your mileage will differ depending on your personal view on that.
Acting was superb on most fronts. They have to act well for you to really dislike their characters and they did just that. It was no picnic watching those scenes and there were many inward groans but you have to give credits where they are due. There were lots of character growth as well. A little scripted at times but growth nevertheless.
OST was fine. Quite like the end credit song. Rewatch value is good but I would do my own cut again.

It’s not the beginning….

I rate this very high because as I think about it, the story plot is not bad. Three different families, their struggles, their connection, brings a dynamic portrayal of life. In these families, it brings to light what is right and not in parents, and parenting. While it has the most frustrating and despicable side characters, it really opens the mind of some culture and how these things are acceptable. Thus, it helps some to draw the line and say, nope not in my life.

Cast do a really good job. You hate them, their acting is very good. You love them, they’re doing a good job. That’s how you’re feelings fluctuate throughout. Throughout the story, as the families connect, disconnect, and bond, the build up to beautiful relationships is established. Leads are great. Their chemistry is real stuff, thus, no shyness in passionate kissing. It really is a big difference when actors are mature.

Here’s the best part. They wrap up everything beautifully. Don’t we all want that after investing so much time? The last episodes were so well done you forget you had wanted to throw your device so many times because of some people. The ending is well worth it. I only say I wouldn’t rewatch because there’s too many to watch. The leads scenes though after watching wide eyed stare females with closed lips dramas are definitely a must go back to. Great series.
